Christian God behaves the way He should
Hello,This is interesting material to contemplate and generally Lee Stroble as usual tried to present enough evidence for the supernatural in relation to Christian faith. On issue however in this movie: "The Case for Haven" could be corrected in my view which is that conversation with the musician that somehow may confuse some indecisive viewers. Therefore, it is missing one important thing to explain to them. In other words, musicianโs concept of faith in Christian God is totally incomplete. He said there that the concept of God hiding from us in Christian theology and then God sending you to hell if you disbelieve in Him would be a big disagreement in his view. That is however a huge simplification in his believe system and complete misunderstanding. First of all, our Gospel tell us that (quote): "For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of ALL people, ESPECIALLY of those who believe". (1 Timothy 4, 10) This means that:1. First of all, believing in Christian God doesn't just mean that God exists since even fallen angels believe that God exists, actually they even know that God exists, but they are still in hell. True believing means that you live your life the way Jesus introduced Himself when saying (quote): โI am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.โ, which means you have to live your life according to those values He proclaimed and accompanied by love, but if you really don't - only then you face separation from God which is possible hell (a self inflicted punishment and torment because of separation) since God doesnโt force anyone to relationship with Him and to unity with His nature. Logically saying, opposite of that would be haven in the unity with God, with Godโs nature represented by LOVE. This, in any case, happens by our own by our own choice as for free will creatures. God is light, and as He said in the Scriptures, He created us in His image. Even Einstein confirmed this by pointing out that (quote): "Matter is energy, energy is light. We are all light beings." So, no wonder God wants us to join Him.And only this behavior derived from LOVE is the TRUE faith for anyone, even for the unbeliever by which God will judge us! The content of your heart, your soul. So, that musician definitely greatly simplified it for himself creating some kind of logical nonsense out of it which prevented him from believing, and thinking that bilions of other Christian believers, many highly educated ones, are just plain stupid. So, who is then?2. Second, God does not hide from us at all. He is all around us in His deeds That is why He said in Romans 1, 20 (quote): "For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature."Also, God already revealed Himself to us in Christ, and hence in Psalm 14, 1 He said (quote): "The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."Should God uncover Himself to us completely there would be only "salvation" through fear and not an honest, not effective one, but earthly life on the other hand needs to be a true trial and something like a real sieve testing your soul. And this of course is right, brilliant and true plan which really makes sense in logical terms.Thank you.

A look at love and the after life!!!
There's an author by the name of Richard Matheson, who's better known for his horror fiction (I Am Legend and Hell House) and the teleplays that he wrote for the original Twilight Zone series in the sixties (the most famous being Nightmare at 30,000 Feet). This is the man who had the greatest influence on Stephen King when he was a teenager and an aspiring writer. What many people don't know is that Richard Matheson also wrote two very powerful novels about undying love and soul mates, both of which were turned into successful movies--Somewhere In Time in 1980 and What Dreams May Come in 1998. This posting is about What Dreams May Come. What Dreams May Come was written by Richard Matheson as a way of saying a big "thank you" to his wonderful wife. He wanted to write a book that would show his love for her in a very special way. When the novel was originally published, one of the producers of Somewhere In Time read it and decided that he would eventually turn the book into a movie. This finally came about in 1998. The movie, What Dreams May Come, starred Robin Williams as Chris Nielsen and Annabella Sciorra as his wife, Annie. The story is a sad one; yet, it does have a positive ending. More importantly, it has a strong message about life after death and how we choose to come into this life to be with the people we love and need to learn from. In a sense, this is the unique power of love. When you truly love someone, the energy of that emotion never goes away, no matter how many years or centuries may pass. Love is eternal. The story of What Dreams May Come (there are plot spoilers here, so beware) deals with a middle-aged couple that has lost their two children due to a traffic accident. They have struggled to rebuild their lives and to carry on their journey together. But, another traffic accident takes Chris's life, and Annie is left alone to deal with her guilt and heartache and emptiness. As Chris's spirit gradually accepts his death, he moves into the after life, or to a very special place that's built on happy memories from his previous life. You could say that it's the place where dreams are born. He meets the man who helped trained him to be a doctor and is guided by him in an effort to readjust to this new state of being. Eventually Chris will encounter his two children, whose memories have never left his heart. In time, however, he finds out that Annie has committed suicide. She found herself unable to go on without him. Because of her belief system and because her death is a suicide, Annie's spirit ends up in what might be referred to as hell. Chris refuses to accept that he may never see Annie again and decides to go after her. Though no spirit has ever done this before, Chris is determined to make the journey to hell and to bring his wife back. This is the strength of his love for her. If he can't bring Annie back, then he'll stay in hell with her for the rest of his existence.Needless to say, you need a big box of Kleenexes when you watch What Dreams May Come. This movie has a number of poignant moments about true love and death and the people who are interconnected to us. The photography and special effects are awesome. The movie makes you believe in life after death, and that it can be the most beautiful place that one's mind can imagine. I think this is one of the reasons the film had such a powerful affect upon me. When I saw it at the movie theater in 1998, I continued to sit there for at least ten minutes after the end credits had rolled. I wasn't the only one, either. That night, I went to see it again with some friends, and we all seemed to experience the same kind of sensation when the movie ended. It touched something deep within us that was desperately needed. I think that as human beings, we need these very special experiences every so often in order to keep us moving through the ups and downs of life. Without these moments in time that touch our hearts and souls, we would simply be moving forward as if on autopilot. There's about twenty-five minutes of extras on this DVD that deal with the making of the movie. Highly recommended!

disappointed with message in film.
Watched this with high hopes ....sorry to say the film seemed to depict the afterlife as a punishment if you're in a place mentally that you can't stay here on earth, as my friend was . If you can be ''rescued'' by a loved one who has gone before you , your soul will be saved !! , I have studied spiritualism for many many years , and we believe the spirit is healed and helped forward if their own human life is taken by their own hand.Only my opinion , I'm sure others see this film differently and I respect that, but I personally feel that this portrayal of the afterlife could cause more distress to anyone who has lost someone they care for to suicide.

PARADISE IS WAITING
A film I never got around to watching back in the day but was always meaning to view at some point. Directed by Vincent Ward, 'What Dreams May Come' is based on a 40 year old book by legendary fantasy author Richard Matheson, who himself briefly appears on the disc extras. Finally having caught up with it on Blu Ray and after so much anticipation it's inevitable I found the experience slightly underwhelming.Who knows what the original story pitch must have sounded like? Husband dies and goes straight to Heaven, wife is so distraught she kills herself and as a suicide is banished to en eternity in Hell. Husband won't let this happen so sets off on a quest to rescue her and bring her back to an everlasting Paradise with himself. Seems so ludicrous it defies belief BUT, if done in the right way might just convince audiences that this is a credible scenario. Then again, this IS Hollywood, remember?Unfortunately the film fails on a number of levels. Let's start positively, the visuals are for the most part stunning, a mixture of Heavenly landscapes and a living Afterlife, inhabited by Chris Nielsen (Robin Williams), enveloped within the paintings by his artist wife Annie (Annabella Sciorra). Deservedly winning the Academy Award for Visual Effects, even these begin to peter out a little later in the film. The idea of an inverted cathedral to represent the Hell inhabited by Annie is inspired, but the entrance to Hell itself shown almost like a disused and decaying dockyard containing ocean liners and rusting ships didn't quite cut it with me. Couple this with inhabitants/guards that are akin to rejected Lord of the Rings characters, it started to register that things were becoming a little strained. This is all a long way from the disturbing imagery of the documentary 'Dante and the Invention of Hell'. Seek that one out if you can. Both Williams and Sciorra are excellent as the doomed couple, but as this is still primarily entertainment, we get the inclusion of a friendly guide (Cuba Gooding Jr), for a little light relief and a 'Tracker', played by the far more serious Max Von Sydow. They are both such cliched and predictable characters, it does the plot no favours in terms of believeability. With constant jumps between past, present and Afterlife, the editing can be a bit frustrating, with the audience being asked to keep their emotional state flexible, which unfortunately works against the flow of the film. This of course is a commercial movie as opposed to anything truly arthouse and as such features an ending exactly as you would expect, and the term Happy Ever After has never been more appropriate. It would be interesting to see the whole thing re-imagined by someone like David Lynch. Now that IS worth a second thought. The UK Blu-ray looks very good but not jaw dropping as you might expect. The dazzling visuals don't quite come across at times and blow the mind, but this is mostly down to WHAT is onscreen rather than disc transfer issues, although picture quality could still benefit from a more punchy image. As it stands, some of the Heavenly vistas appear rather flat instead of dimensional. I would suggest you view on the largest screen possible and maybe in 4K UHD to achieve the best effect. Some interesting extras include a rather jarring but thankfully unused alternate ending, a commentary from director Vincent Ward, a making of documentary around the SFX and a couple of trailers. One curiosity is the 15 Cert on the UK release. With no sex, nudity, bloodshed and very little profanity, the only thing that comes to mind is the subject matter of a perfect fantasy Paradise coupled with suicide as a route map to get there. Even the visualisation of Hell fails to warrant such an adult rating, other than to protect the innocent and impressionable.

Laugh and cry. One of Robin Wiliams very best films
OK, holding hands up I am a Robin Williams fan.Have seen this film on TV several times so got it to watch with the wife. Cried my eyes out as usual - this is to me one of his saddest and happiest films, lots of special effects and some poignant moments, plenty of dialogue and some extreme fantasy. The characters you see are not the characters you think they are or that indeed that the main actor thinks they are. All will become clear when you watch it.Wife cried too - it just has those kind of moments.Would recommend buying a box of tissues. This is to me one of his very best films, more involved than his comedy films and more thoughtful. His talent for acting sure comes out.

UK is region 2!!
Watch out because this dvd is set to "region 1"...that means it may not play in UK, depends on if you have enough remaining options on your PC or dvd player to re-set your region. And I found out you can usually do this change only ONCE!Sadly mine is now out of options so impossible to play the dvd!Bloody ridiculous! Why do there have to be all these complicated "regions" issues with a dvd??I am adding only one star for that fact, not because it's a bad video, because it isn't bad. It's very good. Seen it before once.

Not his best
Certainly not one I suspect Robin would have bragged about over the years and I certainly felt a tad self indulgent on the part of the director, by making it as weird as was possible. Underlying all this though, there was the semblance of a story, if willing to see it through to the end. Some films are like that, you think what on earth is this, but stick with it out of curiosity just to see how it finishes. This is one of those.
