This item works better than others I have tried
So I have lots of mosquitoes and flies in my house. We have a big garden and often have fruits and veggies awaiting canning so also have gnats. This bug zapper works really well. I didnt give it 5 stars because I thought from the description that it would "suck" in insects. It doesnt do that. But the light attracts them, more so at night than in the day. Yes, I still have some insects buzzing around but in the month since I've been using it I've trapped hundreds of insects. The bugs get trapped in the bars around the light but I can clean them out ok with the brush provided. I ordered another brand for another room but in a month it trapped TWO bugs. I'm returning it. So, this one really works !

This thing actually works when used in a dark indoor room
While there seem to be a LOT of questionable mosquito killers on Amazon, this is a legit and useful product. In the past 2 weeks, this thing has zapped 50+ mosquitos to death in my garage, which gets mosquitos frequently as we are going in and out of the door. I operate it at night, with all the lights out, and generally find that all the mosquitos are dead by the morning. If used in a dark indoor room with little / no air flow (as intended), I can attest that this product works well.

Didn't work for us.
I am not sure if it works for others, but the description indicates this works for various flying insects, unless I am reading it wrong. We tried it in the home(although we never see any mosquitos in the home) and outside on the patio, both for multiple days. In all that time we did not see, hear or confirm a zap or killing of any insects. Trust me, we have plenty around, but didn't eliminate one. Purchase as you will, but thought I would make you aware.

DOES NOT ATTRACT NOR KILL INSECTS - SO A BLUISH GLOWING LAMP
If you are looking for a blueish-purple lamp then this is for you! If you are looking for it to fulfill the job of killing any flying insects, then move to the next bug zapper on the amazon list and try that one. I will save you the headache. Received It, unboxed, everything was functional after plugged it in and made sure it was on.Left in Garage where we get flies and mosquitoes after working at night with lights that attract them. Turned off the lights in garage and left on bug zapper expecting to come back to a bloodbath of flies and mosquitoes.NOT A SINGLE KILL in two nights.

It works for almost all flies (including fruit flies)!
I was skeptical at first if it was going to catch fruit flies due to their small size (by nature). The zapper has impressed me by catching multiple types of flies (including fruit flies!). If you want it to be most effective, I would turn it on and everything else off before going to bed.

Doesn’t seem to work for mosquitoes
I sat and watched a mosquito fly around it, and get very close to going in, but never went through the bars to the light. Many tiny moths did, but not one mosquito is fried on the inside or the bars. I bought it for mosquitoes so it’s a loss for me.

Pretty Good
This thing is great for sleeping in the same room. It doesn't make a loud ZAP sound like the other ones when it kills the bugs. Its a deadly flying bug killer. The only thing I can ding this for is that it can't kill big moths because the cage is small to be safe for animals and pets etc which is fine. I can hit the big moths with my physical bug swatter.

All my insects survived, although there's a remote possibility that a mosquito or two was destroyed.
Don't waste your money. In addition to not dealing with my flying insects to any noticeable degree, the thing gave off an intense blue light which did me no good.
