More expensive than a standard litter box, but more than worth it.
This was worth it. I've had it for almost 4 years now and it still works great. In combination with the crystals it reduces odors quickly and completely. The litter lasts a long time, usually about 40 uses before I have to change it. It's deep enough my cat doesn't drag/scratch litter out of it all the time, the smell is gone, it stays clean and it is quick and easy to change when it is time. It is not loud, but definitely not quiet and we sometimes hear it when it runs after use in the other room(not all the time though). Highly recommended

Works great, no removable compartment to dump between tray changes
Edit- So I see the newest generation of this box and I am so upset I didn't see this anywhere for purchase when I bought the original. I feel like I bought a money pit with these trays and crystal litter and it doesn't even have the removable bin like the newest. This new one is everything I wanted but I didn't see it was available anywhere although the release date was July 17 and I bought mine July 29. Pretty bummed. I wish I had the opportunity to get the newest version when I made my purchase. Other than shedding hair, having to scoop a litter box is the only drawback to having a cat, in my opinion. I have a new kitten. I bought this litter box knowing I didn't want to scoop, obviously. I also have two older cats who will be coming back to live with me after a few years of travel nursing. I figured I needed to make the litter maintenance streamlined with an automated box. I was also hoping it would keep any smells down to zero. So far, this is my experience. First off, the litter trays are super expensive, nearly cost prohibitive. But if used properly, it is not so bad in comparison to the cost of clay litter for multiple cats, and you might as well get the reusable tray and buy the fresh step crystals. I have one kitten, and the only way I can avoid replacing a whole tray in less than a week is by removing the scooped poo from the stored compartment. I think this is how it should be used, and it just isn't clarified. Any other auto box is going to require you to remove the scooped poo, but the difference with this one is that it doesn't have a removable compartment you can dump. You have to remove the poo yourself. This is still better than scooping the old-fashioned way. Just grab gloves hold your nose, lift the storage compartment and hurry it into a bag. This will extend the life of the trays. That compartment fills and stinks in less than a week with a kitten. It has to have the clumps removed. Otherwise, you have to change the whole tray at least weekly, and this is just with a kitten. If you are going to replace the whole tray every time the compartment is full, then you might as well pay the 699 for one of those fancier contraptions that use the regular litter. By the time you pay for disposable litter trays on a weekly basis for the life of this box, you will have bought several of the high-priced fancy ones over and over. That compartment fills and stinks in less than a week with a kitten. It has to have the clumps removed. It does have some litter spill out of the compartment in the front end, and it sits. It is not a lot at all. Make sure you clean out from under there from time to time; it is a scant amount. I started putting a puppy pad under it so orders don't absorb into the floor. Not a big deal. The litter doesn't track at all. Have never used this crystal litter, but I love it. The kitten loves the box. At first, he freaked out by the fact it moved, but no problem with using it. When it's quiet and starts working 20 minutes after its last use, we forget we have it and think someone is in the house, and then we both remember it's just the box and go back to relaxing. It's pretty quiet, though. My boyfriend loves that it is a clean way to manage litter; he is not a fan of cats and worries it will smell, but he is warming up to the cat and to the whole idea with this box.

2 Cats and Thumbs Up. Better than Litter Robot
I've been using this auto litter box for 2 weeks with 2 cats, and so far I am quite pleased. I have used the very expensive Litter Robot for about 5 years. I bought the newer Litter Robot Air 3 last year and it was nothing but a headache with its spinning ball constantly getting jammed. At $499, I was pretty unhappy that it was causing hassles. Worse yet, because of the jamming, 1 cat began pooping on the floor because the ball was upturned and she couldn't enter. I began looking for a non-spinning auto litter box for my 2 female cats quickly. 2 weeks in and the cats (ages 5 and 6) both adapted to the crystal litter fairly quickly with no real issue. 1 cat was a little unhappy with the feeling of the crystals underfoot, but I provided no other alternative so she had no choice than to use it. I did sprinkle a few tablespons of the old litter on top of the crystals. What I read in the reviews and agree with is letting the poop/pee sit for 25 mins before raking. My box sits in the garage which the cats access via a cat door. Amazingly the crystals make the urine dry up quickly when left the recommended 25 mins before raking. The poop also dessicates to dry. No smell after 2 weeks with 2 cats AT ALL. The Litter Robot stunk to holy hell inside the ball with a heavy ammonia smell. I did not buy the lid cover for this ScoopFree unit for that very reason. I believe my cats prefer an open litter box. I am hopeful I will get several years of usage from this ScoopFree litter box. And its 2/3 cheaper than the Litter Robot! As per the directions, it appears I will be on target for the throw away tray to last 25 days as stated. My cats are not heavy with urination. i have not felt the need to buy one of the Forever Trays. IF i can get close to 1 month on a toss away tray, I prefer this convenience. Amazon offers a 3-pack for under $50, so i am ok with that. Easier to deal with than lugging clump litter. So far so good.

Don’t buy it!
**UPDATE** I wish I had never bought this. The crystal litter is so expensive, and it just soaks up the urine and sits there, it doesn’t get raked to the back. I feel terrible for my poor cat. She keeps urinating outside of the box because it’s reeks so badly of ammonia and urine. Realistically all the litter needs to be changed out WEEKLY. But unless you’re made of money and time that’s not going to happen. Save yourself, your pet and your wallet - don’t buy this. I was super excited for this. I decided to downsize after years with the litter robot because I now only have one cat. I got the more expensive wifi option which I didn’t quite realize only tells you when the cat stepped on the tray and when/option to rake. The extra money really wasn’t worth it. I’ve only had it set up for 6 days and I’ve had to “scoop”/ reposition the litter 3 times and my cat urinated outside of the box once because she didn’t find it to be clean enough (this was the first time I went and scooped myself). She took to I fairly quickly, I put it where I had her old litter-box to signal this is where she’s suppose to go now. Added a little bit of her old litter (I saw this suggested). And put her old box next to the new one, covering it up more and more every day until I removed it as an option. She does not seem to like the crystal litter and I will tell you I don’t blame her, it gets everywhere and while I normally have slippers on I walked on a piece once and it is like GLASS! I also tried vacuuming it up and it’s leaves scratches all over my floors. I’m going to have to shop around for other litter options (for her and I). Overall I’m going to keep it because it is less work than scooping daily. But do not for a second believe you can go more than 3 DAYS without managing it, and I highly doubt you can go more than 2 weeks without changing out the tray. Because in 6 days my one, female, 9 y.o. Cat has nearly halfway filled the back compartment.

Worked at First… But After Several Months, I Would Not Buy This Again
I’ve been using this automatic litter box for about a year and a half now, and at this point I feel like I’ve seen the full lifecycle of how it performs — from initial setup to long-term daily use. Unfortunately, my experience went from okay… to frustrating… to completely unreliable. My Experience Over Time: When I first got this unit, it seemed like a convenient solution. The idea of a self-cleaning litter box is great, especially in a busy household. But over time, the issues started stacking up. ⚠️ The Litter It Requires •This was one of the first major downsides. •Extremely expensive compared to regular litter •Not always easy to find •Poor absorption •Odor control was not impressive For something that requires ongoing refills, this became a consistent frustration. 🔧 Mechanical System Issues: I’ve had multiple problems with this unit over time: The motor eventually failed Customer service did send a one-time replacement That replacement unit also stopped working I was told the issue was related to “outdated software,” which was surprising for a product like this. 📱 App & Automation Reality The app technically worked, but in real-life use, it just doesn’t replace actually maintaining a litter box. I frequently ran into issues where: The rake would smear waste instead of removing it The cycle would stop mid-process with an error code I had to step in and fix things manually anyway 🧼 Cleaning & Maintenance (Big Downside) Cleaning this unit is honestly one of the most frustrating parts. The design makes it difficult to properly clean all areas Waste tends to smear rather than cleanly separate You end up doing more manual cleaning than expected It defeats the purpose of having an “automatic” system. Over time, this became more work than a standard litter box — not less. Replacement Note After my original unit failed, the company sent a replacement — but it was a different version that did not include the app functionality of the original model I purchased. Unfortunately, even with the replacement, the overall performance issues remained. 🧱 Where I Ended Up At this point, I actually keep the unit unplugged most of the time. Instead of being automatic, it’s essentially become: a very large, very expensive manual litter box ❌ Final Verdict I really wanted this to work, but after extended use, I would not purchase this again. The idea is great — but between the litter cost, reliability issues, and inconsistent performance, it just hasn’t been worth it in the long run. ⭐️I included photos showing what my unit was replaced with by the company after several failed attempts at troubleshooting the litterbox

Worth it! No scooping, no dust
It's an expensive start up but it's worth it. It's incredibly easy setup and change. Our 16 yr old cat took to it within a day. We get about 2 weeks out of the crystals box, not the month advertised but, again, worth it (she tends to pee a lot in the same spot so that's a big factor in the 2 wks i think) We bought the 6 pack of boxes which worked out to about $15 a box. Looking at the difference with litter the smell is almost non existent (get close enough ans you may get a whiff), there is no dust, she tracks a couple little crystals but nothing like littee, and IT CLEANS ITSELF! No scooping is worth the cost. Plus, the amount of litter we were buying, scooping, changing, smelling etc ends up being more than the crystals. Our cat is asthmatic so even the low dust arm and hammer was still dusty and even buying in bulk at box stores I really do think it's not that much more for the crystals (after the startup of course). I read lots of reviews and think a lot depends on your cat, their habits, etc. But overall despite the very few shortcomings (2 wks vs a month, it has a decent size footprint) it is worth not scooping and smelling cat litter.

High Tech litter box
If you are an older person with problems of Technology, grab your kids or grand kids to help you set this up on your phone other than that, it's easy peezy lemon squeezy to put together. Love the fact that it scoops for me and I don't have to worry each night to get that job done. I had no problem getting it all set up, but like I mentioned, the phone app was a bit harder for me. I love how it rakes the kitty litter and leaves it looking neat and clean. I followed the instructions and made sure to put some of my cats regular litter in the box so that it can try and get used to the new box. Also I kept the old litter box beside it and allowed it to get dirty but my cats were not using the new box until I just removed the old one and put a couple of their little dungs in there. Then they knew it was okay to use it. I have wanted one of these for a long time. It's worth every penny.

A Game Changer for Cat Parents (With a Few Annoying Downsides)
I’ve always wanted a self-cleaning automatic litter box, but they’re usually so expensive. I finally caved and ordered the PetSafe ScoopFree Crystal Smart Self-Cleaning Automatic Litter Box, and honestly, I’m really glad I did. The setup was super easy. It comes with some litter, the cardboard tray that sits underneath, the top, and the main unit. The instructions explain everything, but you really don’t even need them. On the back of the main part there are four buttons: one to connect to Wi-Fi, one to reset the usage count, one that shows how many times it’s been used, and one to start the rake manually. Connecting it to Wi-Fi was simple — I barely had to do anything. You just download the app and link your box. The app logs every time it’s used, and you can set notifications for when the tray needs to be changed. You also get to choose how long after each use the rake runs, in 5-minute increments up to 30 minutes. There’s a sensor inside that stops the rake if your cat tries to get in while it’s running. I even tested it with my hand, and it stopped instantly, so you don’t have to worry about your cats getting hurt. One thing I learned the hard way: don’t set the rake delay too short. (Gross warning!) If the poop hasn’t dried a bit, it can smear into the rake, and then you’ll end up having to clean it out manually. When the rake does run, it’s super quiet. I even uploaded a video of it working. My cats will be in the living room and hear it start, and they’ll come sit and watch it like it’s a show. I honestly love this thing. I used to think cleaning the litter box every day wasn’t a big deal — but once I realized I don’t have to do it anymore? Oh my gosh. Game changer. Now for the downsides. The price is rough. With tax, the whole setup is around $320. Then you’ve got the price of the tray and refills. They only give you a cardboard tray, so you pretty much have to buy a reusable plastic one. For what this thing costs, that should’ve been included. The plastic tray is about $25, and the cardboard refill (which includes litter) is about $20. The litter itself is around $25 for two bags. They do include litter in the box, which is nice so you can test it out. The main reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the price and the fact they send a cardboard tray instead of a reusable plastic one. When I bought it, I thought everything I needed would be included. I won’t know how well the cardboard tray holds up until I swap it out, so I’ll try to come back and update once I use it.

Won’t connect
It’s a good product. I returned my plain scoopfree and upgraded to this connected one. It will not connect to my network no matter what I try. I am on a 2.4ghz network. My phone is connected to the same network. It just consistently fails and will not connect. I’m going to contact support and see what’s up and update my review. Until then 1 star due to the frustration this causes in getting set up. Updating my review. Customer service was great and quickly updated the app in the App Store to fix the issue.

Major flaw in the new design.
This new design is a major downgrade. If your cat pees near the back it will leak out under the top shroud. The previous model without WiFi did NOT have this problem.

Pretty good but needs a price adjustment for refills ASAP
Likes: super easy to use, way less odour from cats (2), feel at ease leaving the cats for a night or 2 knowing the litter is cleaned often. So far the cats have had zero accidents where as before they had minor ones. Cleaning is Fairly quiet and doesn’t scare the cats Delivery for new refills took longer than expected but I was able to scoop out poop to throw away for longer use of box. Dislikes: the price for the refills…. Not sure if it’s really sustainable financially. Box of 3 for $65.. vs my $12.99 litter bag that would last a couple months. Not eco friendly with lots of waste from refills…. The reusable tray is $70… seriously?! I tried other trays but they don’t fit. The pebbles/crystals end up all over and I step on them- gross and annoying. Same as regular litter but larger pieces. Advertised as cleaner but I somewhat disagree. At first the cats did not use it dispute me trying everything- mixing their old litter in the new box and new crystals in old litter, litters side by side. Finally removed the old box and they were fine using the new one. Size- it’s large. I cannot find a litter enclosure large enough to fit it so it’s hidden. My last box fit into a bench designed for litter boxes. Overall, would recommend for people who seriously hate cleaning the litter box or go away often. It has been very helpful this summer.
