Baratza Vario - old new stock but rubbish
Although I knew this was an older version, since it was new I went ahead. Firstly, the description never mentioned that it would have a EU plug and not a UK 3 prong one, so I had to order an adaptor on top of the grinder.Once I could plug it in, I set it up and aligned the dials for grinding for Aeropress into the grinds bin. It worked fine, not too noisy and the grinds (about 20g) looked good. I then took out the bin and put in the portafilter holder and dialed in for espresso. Then it started groaning and knocking and then just stopped. It ground maybe 3 grams. And that was it. I had to turn the entire unit upside-down to get the remaining coffee beans out and then tried to see if any were stuck in the burrs. They give you a gadget to supposedly easily remove the top burr to do this. But it was stuck solid. At that point I didn't think I should have to fight with a grinder that lasted less than 5 minutes and couldn't grind more than a few grams. So I sent it back. That's where Amazon excels. The return process is simple, fast and free.
