Belly fat is not only unsightly, it's deadly; it has been linked to a long list of adverse health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, and breast cancer. Prevention' s Flat Belly Diet, a revolutionary plan that's already helped more than one million people lose weight around their middles, may help target dangerous belly fat with monounsaturated fats (better known as MUFAs)โfound in delicious foods like nuts and seeds, vegetable oils, olives, avocados, and dark chocolate. "The food...tastes so good, and there's so much of it!" On the Flat Belly Diet, it's important to enjoy these foods, in the right amounts, with every meal. The Flat Belly Diet! Cookbook - by Liz Vaccariello with Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD - makes that easy. All of the recipes were carefully developed to make sure every meal includes just the right amount of MUFAs and meets the plan's 400-calorie guideline, so readers can mix and match meals to suit their taste. And there's no need to count calories. All the work has already been done! "I had to get over all those years of denying myself.... I'm so excited by this diet." Packed with 200 dishes that feature these scrumptious fat-fighting MUFA-rich foods, as well as more than 50 lush photographs, this book gives readers plenty to whet their appetites: -Great-to-wake-up-to dishes like Banana Pancakes with Walnut Honey and Eggs Florentine with Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto -International favorites like Thai Corn and Crab Soup and Caribbean Chicken Salad -Cozy comfort food like Spaghetti with Roasted Cauliflower and Olives and Turkey Meat Loaf with Walnuts and Sage -Quick, satisfying snacks like Tex-Mex Snack Mix, Peanut Butter Spirals, and Nutty Chicken Nuggets -Sweet treats like Super-Rich Chocolate Cake with Maple Frosting and Peach and Blueberry Tart with Pecan Crust Review: Awesome Diet (?) Food - :-D - You would never know you are on a diet. Love this diet - easy to follow, explanations and diet instructions are easy and recipes are delicious. My husband and I lost 7-8 lbs. each in just 2-1/2 weeks and have lost several inches all over as well. Best diet I have ever been on that really works. You are NEVER hungry and we have no cravings whatsoever. It is a lifestyle eating regimen that we are excited about. My husband has had to cut his blood pressure meds in half already, and I am anxious to see how my cholesterol tests out. We hope to be able to cut out both of them soon. We are not even going overboard on exercising! Oh, and we bought the guidebook and the big book as well. The guidebook is pretty much a summary of the big book, but worth the money. Thank you, thank you, thank you. The Clarks Review: Great diet/lifestyle that works! - My husband and I have been on the diet since April, and we really do love it! My husband has lost about 23 pounds, mostly in his waist, and he looks great; I have lost about 8 pounds total (but I am a cheater). A friend of ours lost about 30 pounds over four months, and he told us about the diet originally. People have commented on how good we both look, which is always nice. A girlfriend of mine and her hhusband both lost a good amount of weight also; I think he lost 15 pounds and she lost about 7 in about two months. We started out with the pocket guide and the men's edition of the book, and since then we have also bought the regular cookbook and the family cookbook. I have to say that just about every recipe I try is really tasty. I have made everything from the tuna tacos in the men's book to the peanut butter cookies and chocolate zucchini bread in the family cookbook, and we have not been disappointed with anything. Of course, it does require some preparation on my part, so I make a list of the recipes I would like to try for the week, and then I make a shopping list. For lunch, wraps with peanut butter and cranberries, or hummus and turkey, are great staples, and for breakfast I love the cranberry-pecan scones in the regular cookbook, or just cereal with sunflower seeds in the pocket guide. We have now gotten into a groove and make about 15 recipes regularly, alhtough I try to throw in one new recipe a week. The portions for dinner are usually made for four, so sometimes my husband and I have the same dinner twice in one week. We just portion it out right when we make it, and then we have dinner ready for another day. Buy yourself a food scale to weigh meats and pasta; we bought one at Target, and this has really helped us determine what 3 ounces of turkey looks like, etc.

Good Recipes But Still A Diet
This book is really good. I like that it has all of the basic information about the Flat Belly Diet in the beginning, so if one were to want to do the flat belly diet they really only need the cookbook and can save money not buying the other book (which explains the diet but doesn't have any recipes). I have tried several recipes and they have all been very good. I like that they are healthy recipes with flavor and for the most part fairly easy to make. For me, personally, sticking to the actual diet part is not easy because I think it is a little time consuming and can be a little expensive. But I wanted this more to understand the diet and see how it could fit into my lifestyle of eating healthy. And it does! I would recommend this book. It offers recipes for: breakfast, soups & sandwiches, vegetarian, seafood, poultry, meats, snacks, and desserts. The other thing that is great about this book is that for each recipe it tells you how long it takes to make, how many servings, the nutrition info (calories, protein, carbs, fat, sat fat, cholesterol, sodium and fiber)and the MUFA (monounsaturated fats). It also tells you for each recipe what to pair it with to make it a "complete" MUFA meal and then tells you the total caloric intake if you do pair it with the suggestion. The other thing that I do like about this book is that it offers a planned out 14 day meal plan in the appendix and a MUFA serving chart (lists each MUFA, the serving size and the calories). User friendly. Good recipes. Good information.

Best diet cookbook yet!!
I bought both the Flat Belly Diet Guide and the Cookbook. Both have been very helpful. I've made many meals for myself using this cookbook; the pesto is to die for and very easy to make. Once you get the hang of it, you can figure out other meals as well. I lost 5 lbs my first week -- and the only other time I lost that in a week was when I was on a one week Quick Start Program, which is about 800 calories. On the Flat Belly Diet I had 1400 calories, and that's what I'm still eating. The 2nd week I lost 3 lbs -- I've only been on this program for 2 1/2 weeks, but have lost 1 3/4" on my waist. My clothes are fitting much better and I'm never hungry. I've always had a yogurt in the afternoon and I still do, however I now add some sunflower seeds and some nutty granola. I also put sunflowers in my cereal, including oatmeal, in homecooked muffins, etc. I love pizza and now I make my own using whole wheat flour, plenty of veggies and lots of sliced black olives in order to get my MUFA's. It seems I can eat almost anything I want as long as I stay away from sugary foods and add MUFA's to everything else!! Actually I sometimes have a bowl of ice cream, but I doctor it up -- that's right -- sunflower seeds and nuts to the rescue again. I highly recommend these books and this diet!! Thanks Amazon for carrying these items.

Suprisingly Delicous
Ever since leaving college, my goal is to get back down to my high school weight. To me this involved working out 3-4/week and eating healthier. I bought this book and was a little weary about how good the food was going to taste because I haven't heard that many great things about healthy cook books. This one, however, was different. I have cooked 5 recipes thus far and loved all of them!! There are a couple of things that makes this book different from other cook books I have tried. First, all of the ingreidents for the recipes are healthy. I haven't come across one meal (excluding desserts) that contains butter, high sodium, or fatty foods. Also, the recipes are very supportive of serving each meat with a vegitable. This makes the meals filling yet light, so I don't feel like I need a nap after I eat. Second, the book makes you cook in portion sizes. Each of the chicken recipes will tell you to use half of a chicken breast, so the portion control transfers easily from cooking to meal. Third, the nutrition labels are provided for each recipe so I know exactly what I am eating. I'm not an avid calorie counter. In fact, I refuse to keep a journal, but I know how many calories I should have per day and try to at least acknowledge what I'm putting into my body. It's nice to see that my favorite recipe is only 400cal/serving. Lastly, foreach recipe, the is a flat belly fat tip on the bottom of the page. It gives you an additional information about the recipe and sometimes tell you which vegitable will go well with your meal. I would recommend this book to anyone, whether they are trying to lose weight or not. I really enjoy how the authors give great tasting recipes that also help you get healthy. It's a win-win

Love the cookbook, not crazy about it in the Kindle version
I've borrowed this book from the library and love the recipes in it. Good stuff! Not crazy about the Kindle version. Not many photos and you can't tell if they go with the recipe before or after the photo. You can add notes, but they show up as a teeny tiny little icon that you have to click on. I write too much in my cookbooks. Shoulda just bought the paper version.

Great Book!
The Flat Belly Diet is a really simple diet and I love the food options. I've made a couple of the recipes (have only had it a week) and they are Yummy!! The cookbook doesn't have as many pictures as I would like but don't let that stop you from getting this cookbook. It has all the calories & fat, etc. listed for each recipe which makes it easy to keep a food journal. And wait until you see the dessert selections! The whole idea is to eat good whole foods & to get that processed food (YUCK) out of your diet. The beginning of the cookbook goes over the basics of the Flat Belly Diet and has some very helpful advice. Exercise is not a must but STRONGLY recommended. I also recommend the Biggest Loser's Family Cookbook.

Eat well and lose weight!
Both my wife & I wanted to lose weight and we have been successful following the original Flat Belly Diet book. My wife was happy to see there was a 200 recipe book for the Flat Belly Diet. The recipes are delicious and very helpful that the calorie count stays within the 400 range for each meal. It is easy to stay on this plan. For us it is not a "diet" that we will go off of, but instead a lifestyle way of eating.

Translation of some American terms
Love this book as it gives you the background to the diet and a 14 day plan. My husband and I both lost 4lb in the first 4 days, even though we skipped the jump start, but did have sassy water. We have enjoyed many of the savoury recipies. I have made the front cover cup cake recipe (once I found out what canola oil was), but used the mix to make two 7" cakes rather than cupcakes. It is decidedly delicious and my grandchildren love it lots. It's a good idea for the 4th food portion of the day at around 8 or 9 ish. The chocolate zuccini snack cake is also delicious. (I used extravagant Lindt dark chocolate as a treat because I couldn't find dark choc chips, but now that I have, I'll try them next time). Don't forget the recipe makes 12 portions and you are only allowed one. It is also ample for an evening snack. It just doesn't feel like dieting. In fact we don't diet as such, just try to stay healthy and this book is a great tool. For any of you who may not know some of the terminology used, I've done a wee list, with apologies if, to some, I'm stating the obvious. Cilantro - coriander Canola oil - rapeseed oil snow peas - mange toute mesclun - small young salad leaf mix scallions - spring onions rigatoni - tube shaped pasta jicana - sweetish, turnip like crunchy vegetable often used instead of water chestnuts in stir fries. Have never seen it in the UK. zuccini - courgette eggplant - aubergine neuf chatel cheese - specialist french low fat cream cheese. Flank steak - tougher cut of steak from abdominal muscles of cow - often marinated or tenderised before cooking pastry flour - I use plain tempeh - fermented soy beans mixed with grains - often used in Indonesian cooking instead of salt. What pleases me is not just the idea that belly fat will be lost, but that MUFAs are also a great cholesterol buster.

Great food!
I like the size of the book. I like how it tells you the nutritional value. I really like how it has suggestions on what can be added to the recipe to make it a complete 400 calorie mufa meal. The recipes all sound great. As with a lot of recipe books, it doesn't have enough pictures. But the ones you see are beautiful.

Great cookbook!
I first got this book from the library and tried some recipes. I liked it so much that I wanted to own it. So I ordered it from Amazon.ca. I tried quite a few recipes already and find them very wholesome and yummy. I would recommend it to anybody.

The book was 2nd hand but surprisingly it is in excellent condition . Some of the ingredients are only available in USA but it is challenging and fun to try and source an equivelant in UK. The 4 day starter diet was difficult but both my husband and I lost 4lbs so it was a great incentive to carry on.
