Game Changer
Other than the gasket being the wrong size, it was perfect. Lawnmower repair is so much easier now with carbs this cheap. Haven’t cleaned a carb in years. This was installed on a mower that had been sitting for several years. Fired up immediately after installing. No adjusting required.

Follow up to my earlier revies (NOT a direct replacement for carb on my B&S 287707 . .
ORIGINAL POST:Don't know if it works yet - spent the time I had to work on it today figuring out how to rewire my engine to accommodate the solenoid on this carb. My original carb solenoid had one wire - a power wire - and the solenoid was internally grounded. The solenoid on this carb has a small receptacle with two small pins. And there is no adapter in the kit to fit the receptacle. If your engine has a two-wire setup with a small plug that will fit the two-pin receptacle on the solenoid, you might be home free. I ended up 'making' a 2-wire plug to fit the receptacle by cutting down a connector on a computer power supply cable. The solenoid clicks when I apply power (and ground) with the carb unmounted, so I figure it will also work when I get the carb mounted. If you're involved with this carb and don't know, one of the two wires to the solenoid is for power when you turn the ignition on and the other wire is for ground. Doesn't seem to matter which wire is which as the solenoid is not internally grounded.I'll follow up with how the carb functions after I get it installed and up and running.FOLLOW-UPCompleted the installation using a homemade solenoid connector. Everything (other than the solenoid connector that I had to rig) fit perfectly. The engine started instantly and ran fine - for a minute or so. Then it began to spray oil out of the crankcase breather hose into the air-cleaner housing. MY FAULT! I had neglected to check the engine oil level before starting the engine, and it turned out that my original faulty carburetor had allowed gasoline to overflow the carb, diluting the oil with gasoline and overfilling the crankcase. I shut it down (it was still trying to run), drained the gasoline-oil mixture out of the crankcase, replaced it with new oil, and cleaned up the mess. The engine then started instantly and runs fine. Great carburetor. I limited my review to 4 stars because the solenoid connector was not compatible with my engine and there was no adapter for it in the kit.Don't forget to check your engine oil for gasoline contamination if you are replacing a faulty carb.

Works good
Fit great on 17 hp craftsman mower and ran good out of box with no adjustment. Needed to cut small piece off of plastic throttle lever because it barely hit the air box. Comes with fuel line and gaskets

Close fit for Murray Briggs and Stratton 14 HP (1993) model 287707 - but not quite
The carburetor fit on the engine intake side well. However, the other end, the choke side, was a problem. The carb did not exactly adapt to the profile of the existing base housing for the air cleaner. I had to make some modifications to the air cleaner with a Dremel tool to allow the carb to mate up flush with the housing. And then, when operating the chike lever, I noticed that it was sticking when in the full open position. I marked the metal flaps of the valve, and made some very slight adjustments (grinding metal) to ensure there was no binding during operation of the choke flapper. The good news was that when I started the engine, it ran better then it has for a long time. With that, I discovered my starter motor also was bad - so was unable to start the engine again for another try. But I did have it running for a good 4-5 minutes, was able to use the drive and engage the blade with no hiccups. One other note: the fuel solenoid on my original carb has only one wire connection (for the red hot lead); this carb has two. I rigged up a splice to the existing hot wire and also added a ground to engine. It would be nice if they would send the wiring harness as part of the bundle.

Worked perfectly for my 12.5 HP Briggs & Stratton, but...
Seems like an exact replacement for the old carb I had (from 1999), but there's one plastic pin that interferes with the air filter housing. When you install everything, if it's an issue the choke won't close. One snip of good wire cutters solves the problem.NOTE that if you have an old carb like mine that didn't have a safety solenoid, you'll have to do some quick wiring to feed the 12 volts it needs to run. No prob for me, but you'll need a small soldering iron to connect the wires directly to it, as the carb does not come with a connecting plug.
