It is a neutral shoe build, which means that it is not made for pronation or supination
I weigh 230 lbs. This shoe provides the cushioning I need for walking and running. Another important issue for me is the heel counter, which is rarely talked about. Asics has one of the strongest, if not the strongest, heel counters. A strong heel counter keeps your foot in place and allows for your natural gate and aids in not rolling over on your ankle. Strong heel counters are the first thing I ck in purchasing a running shoe. Love this shoe and the Asics Gel Kayano.

Comfort and stability on flat surfaces
I really quite like these running shoes. I admit, they spend most of their time on my feet NOT running. I'm a fashion photographer and spend a lot of time on hard concrete studio floors or on streets outside. I can always tell when I need new sneakers. My ankles hurt at the end of a long day. These have great padding and support. On the running end of things, the ASICS provide lots of cushioned support. Since I tend to run more on the balls of my feet rather the classic heel-to-toe, I do wish they had a bit more padding under the balls. That said, these are comfortable and provide the support I need. One caveat. I like/prefer trail running over streets/roads. This may mean farm roads, cinder trails to gravel trails in parks or my own 1-mile farm road. For this type of running, they don't provide quite the ankle support a stability and I prefer to wear my Merrill low hikers (not running shoes per se, but great stability and support). If you want a really nicely cushion running shoe, this is for you.

High Quality
I have slight supination and have found that Asics Gel Cumulus are the best shoes for me when I walk, jog, or run. I mostly wear them to walk my dog 3-4 miles a day and they are very comfortable. They breathe very nice as well. The outer soles hold up pretty well to the road and sidewalk. I probably put about 50-60 miles per month and replace my cumulus' every 6-7 months or so. I started with the 17's and have had the 18s, 19s, 20s, and now the 21 and they keep getting better. The cushioning on this shoe is probably somewhere around medium. It isn't overly cushioned, but they aren't hard either. The response when running is nice.It seems like a lot of running shoes nowadays come in all kinds of crazy colors and designs. One of the things I like most about the cumulus is that the design is pretty simple and basic, yet it's still a very good looking shoe. I get compliments on them very often.I really don't like spending over $100 on a pair of shoes but these are worth it. I have never had a problem with shin splits or foot pain or anything else with these. Before you buy these shoes and leave a bad comment because you don't like them do your research on running shoes. Asics isn't a one size fits all shoe; the Kayano, Nimbus, and Cumulus are all made for people with different arches and running gaits. They also come in different widths. It might take a few shoes to really dial it in but once you find one you like you won't be disappointed.

One of ASICS Better Products
I needed a new pair sneakers and ASICS has been my "go to". I could not get my favorite, Gel Kayano 21, so I ordered Gel Kayano 26. To be blunt, these were not well made and undersized. I wear a D width and these were C+ at best. I returned these shoes and ordered the Gel Cumulus 21. It appears older is better, because the Gel Cumulus 21s are far superior to the Gel Kayano 26s. Sizing is perfect and they are very comfortable. To Amazon's credit, I received a rebate immediately after giving my return to UPS. To emphasize, I am very happy with my new running shoes.

Missing the cushion
I am a female runner and though I only run about 4 miles a week, it is important that I have a shoe that not only protects my feet from impact but is comfortable as well. I bought a men's shoe because they are generally wider and I didn't like the colors offered for women's wide widths. I previously had a Gel-Nimbus 18 and they were absolutely wonderful! But current models were not nearly as cushioned. Very discouraged, I read expert reviews that said the Cumulus was more cushioned and better suited to my needs. I tried on the Cumulus and couldn't really tell the difference so I bought the Cumulus and tried them out at home. I discovered that the problem with the current models is the insole -- it is very thin, whereas my old shoe has a wonderfully spongy insole. I put the old insole in my new shoe and it made all the difference! I don't understand why Asics is using such a cheap insole. So in conclusion, this shoe is great is every way except for the cushioning -- I had to add my own insole to make it comfortable. And the tongue and ankle cushioning is not so good either. I hope Asics will return to their old designs in the future because I think the few ounces of weight savings aren't worth the loss of comfort.

Excellent fit and comfortable with good support
I brought these shoes after extensive online research, looking for a shoe - "sneaker" - that would be good for walking, but not be clunky or old fashioned looking like some of the competitive brands. Walking is my main exercise, either treadmill or pavement. The Cumulus 21 is a running shoe, but has a little more support and insoles that make it a natural for walking as well - per the reviews. After logging about 20 miles (have had the shoes for less than a week), I find that the support is excellent. They are a little heavier than a true runner, but to me, that means they are more substantial and durable (especially for walking). I feel like I'm getting more spring to my steps versus a pair of old walkers that I have. I guess this is due to the configuration of the soles and insoles. The shoes are comfortable enough to wear all day, even around the house. They are cool and seem to "breathe." The fit is basically perfect - I wear a 9-1/2 D. The shoes are not tight, even brand new - my foot basically slides in them without issue. There is plenty of room for my toes - the previous walkers actually scrunched my toes together. On the other hand, they are not loose or floppy. As I said, a perfect fit. On the downside, I did get a small blister on a middle toe of one foot - fixed this by lacing the shoes up tighter and switching to a better athletic sock.Overall, I like this shoe and would highly recommend it. I am considering buying a second pair.

Very comfortable
I have very high arches and supinate when I walk. Finding tennis shoes to take care of this problem has been difficult, and I have been a New Balance customer, using both their running shoes and cushioning/support insoles. This Asics shoe, however, claims that it counters supination. And, after wearing it for a few days, I have to agree that it does what it says. I can feel the support piece pushing the outside of my foot inward. I added a New Balance Ultra Arch Support insole, and the cushioning is unbelievable. Moreover, the shoe is extremely light, even with the NB insole.

didn't fit good
I have purchased many asics shoes for years as I have been a long distance runner for 45 years. Most of the asics styles have met my expectations. However, this particular asics shoe was disappointing as soon as I tried them on. Way too wide of a shoe to go with my feet. I will go with other asics styles I have had in the past to suit my running life.

Uncushioned Inserts
I am a huge Asics fan...I swear by their Gel Resolution tennis shoes and have owned at least 10 pair. Because I play a lot of tennis, I have never been a consistent long-distance runner. I have actually been running in the Resolutions during COVID, which are structural beasts because of the wear and tear tennis puts on a shoe. They are not, however, designed for running. So during COVID, with no tennis and no chance to test out running shoes in a store, I thought it would be a good bet to go with Asics for running shoes too, especially for fit. That part worked out well. They fit perfectly. The ankle cushioning is terrific. They fit like a glove around the heel and ankle, with no slippage. Very plush around the ankle. They were true to size for me, but remember I was coming from a pair of Asics tennis shoes, so a 10 is a 10 in Asics. I don't know how it might translate from other running or athletic brands. So when I first put them on (sitting down), I thought, "jackpot!"Then I started wearing them around, and then took them for a run, and I was pretty disappointed in the cushioning of the insert. The insert is very thin...no cushioning to speak of. I measure it at about 3/32" thick. The plush feel that was around my ankle is not found in the rest of the shoe. I pulled the insert out of my Resolution tennis shoes, and they are MUCH thicker (2x to 3x) than in these running shoes, which makes no sense to me, because running involves much more hard and repeated direct impacts than tennis, which involves more lateral movement. Also, I have owned running shoes before, and I've never had a pair that felt so thin on the inside bottom of the shoe.Clearly the shoes are right for some people (see the reviews); but I chose these after using the ASICS shoe finder on their web site, and I chose "Extra Cushioning" as one of the options. These shoes were presented as the top option I believe the other choices were "Regular Cushioning" and "Maximum Cushioning." I should have chosen Maximum I guess. If these are Extra cushioning, I shudder to think what Regular means.I don't know, maybe all the "cushioning" is in the outer sole (that's where the "gel" is I guess) and that's what's supposed to protect against jarring when I'm running long distances. In other words, "cushioning" is distinct from "plush." Maybe that's obvious to people who run all the time, but for casual runners it may be a bit of a surprise the cushioning and interior comfort are not the same thing.Interestingly I looked back at the description of the shoe on Amazon and the focus is all on the outer part of the shoe, and its structure. I originally interpreted some of that to reflect the feel of the shoe, but in hindsight I think it's mostly addressing durability and impact, not feel. The ASICS description focuses a lot on the Gel technology -- which again, I have always found GREAT in their Resolution tennis shoes -- but I assumed some of that had to do with feel of the shoe, whereas now I think it only addresses what's happening structurally. My solution is to pull the inserts out of an old pair of Resolutions and use them in these shoes. Even though those inserts are severely worn from 9 months of hard singles tennis in them, they are still at least twice as cushioned as the ones that came with the Cumulus 21, and they fit the shoe perfectly.

Pretty nice running shoes
I'm not a running shoe aficionado, as until Covid, I ran on a treadmill in a gym for the past 20 years. I never knew the beating your feet and knees take running on the road. So after having Kurt Schilling socks (baseball fans will know what I mean) and hurting feet and knees I decided to find a running shoe that wasn't astronomically priced. So I googled best running sneaker in the $100 range and Asics came up. I"ve had cheaper versions that I just wore to the gym so I knew I liked the overall fit and style already so I got the Gel Cumulus 21's.After dreading going out and hitting the Tarmac in my other sneakers, I eagerly slipped on the Asics the day they arrived (with band-aids on my toes and heel) and hit the road. Man was I happy. Compared to the flattened out messes I had been running in these felt like I had pillows under my feet. I'm 201lbs. and like to sprint so if these shoes were not good I would know immediately, especially given all the pain I'd been in. I now look forward to running... sort of...I would say the run a tad small. My cheaper versions fit perfectly at 11 1/2, and these are a bit tight. So if you're a little past the half inch mark on whatever size you are I'd suggest going up to the next inch (9 2/3" should try the 10"). That being said they're breaking in so they should be fine.Good sneaker. At least from a casual runner like myself.

If the shoe fits....
Needed some decent walking around shoes. With a little panache not a lot. I've got 2 other pairs of asics and they are old friends so why not a trifecta? asics was Phil Knight's entry into the athletic shoes biz. Made like a $120 shoe should be. Very light. Attractive blue color with just enough red to make me a fashion icon. Fit fine, a wide toe box that I like, and gel technology is asics corp cushion statement. I like them. Comfortable and a welcome addition to my footwear closet. I buy 10.5 Vans, Converse but 11s with asics, adidas, etc. Wear heavier Wigwam socks so need the extra length. 11s here are perfect.

Cloud-like cushion for all day comfort
These are a huge improvement from the ASICS Cumulus 9. These have a stable heel cup, and have a very comfortable smooth ride for all day comfort. These surpassed my expectations from previously owning the Cumulus 9. 10/10
