Loving chapter in the dust-bowl history of USA.
Sandra Dallas, love all her books that I have read so far. Character development strong, historical research of the era is done well. Don't want the books to end as come to care about the people in her books.

Great intro to the Depression for middle school readers - and beyond!
Twelve-year-old Hallie and her brothers, 16-year-old Tom and 6-year-old Benny, have been on their own since their mother died and their father went out to find work, never to return. It's 1933 and just about everyone is having a hard time getting by - meaning that no matter where he looks, there's no work for Tom to find.Just when it seems the family has reached their lowest, they find unexpected help in the form of a family in one of the towns they pass through. Suddenly life is better and more stable than it has been in a long time. But trouble with a local bully causes rumors to spread about Tom. What happens if the locals don't believe his innocence and the family has to move on once again?Dallas does a good job, depicting both relatable characters and enough details to provide young readers with a good sense of life in America during the 1930s.

Great story to read to your children
I read this story to my children and they loved it. They especially gained an understanding of what life was like during the Great Depression.

Very Sweet Read
I live in Texas, and this is one of the twenty books that Texan librarians picked to put on our Texas Bluebonnet Book List for 2021-2022, which means it has a chance to be selected as the state winner! It is as I wrote in the title a sweet read, and it has much more of a plot than I thought from the cover and what I read on the back. Just a great read which I will happily share with my fourth grade class.

Good reading for young readers of a story with a historical background of the dustbowl times. It also deals with prejudice of challenged individuals who prove their worth and need to be loved and respected.
Sandra Dallas is one of my favorite writers. I love her stories of real historical backgrounds. She is now writing so many good books for young readers.

A place to call home by Sandra Dallas
was not aware it was a young persons book (guessing 10-13yrs old) I absolutely loved the author and the book was great but a bit fairy tale about the 1930s depression with a happy ending (kids probably want and need to hear this) I know differently but overall, enjoyed the book very much

One of the best books I've read in awhile!!
The Turner children have captured my heart. I absolutely loved this story set during the great depression about a family of 3 kids trying to find a place to call home. The main characters seemed so real and i just loved reading their story. The plot was well developed and lead to a lovely conclusion. It was such a good story..i didn't want to see it end.
