desertcart.com: The Nazi Hunters: How a Team of Spies and Survivors Captured the World's Most Notorious Nazi: 9780545430999: Bascomb, Neal: Books Review: Excellent Read - Keeps you interested to the end. A great walk through history and I believe an answered prayer to the Jewish People that suffered so much. Review: A fascinating story. - Wow. This is an amazing book. Not only is the story a fascinating one, but it is very well-written and quite compelling. Bascomb does a nice job of providing just enough background about the different people to provide understanding for why they behaved the way they did and why Eichmann's capture was so important. I was a bit surprised at my own reaction though to Eichmann himself. The man was responsible for doing some awful things and I expected to be rather disgusted with his actions and his rational for them, and I did feel that way. However, after I read about the conditions under which he was found and his continuing excuse that he was 'just following orders' I found myself pitying the man and his lack of humanity. How he could claim to believe in God and yet send millions of people to their deaths, I will never understand. The story of how Eichmann was discovered, captured, and tried is an intriguing story involving Holocaust survivors, spies, and intricate plans that had every chance of going wrong. What I found the most ironic though was that it was a mistake made by Eichmann himself that resulted in his capture. If he had had his sons use a different name (other than Eichmann), he most likely would never have been found. In the end his own arrogance doomed him. This is what nonfiction for young people should be and I highly recommend it.

A great story - taken over the top
The story is comparable to one of the more fantastic spy fictions. Adolph Eichmann - perhaps the most obvious surviving culprit of The Holocaust - was identified in Argentina, captured and smuggled back to a public trial in Israel. If this were a work of fiction, it would stretch credulity. History documents it as a true story. No author could really fail with a story like this, but this author does only an average job. There is no need for the over-the-top accounts of how evil Eichmann was, nor of how Israelis relished the idea of his being subjected to due process. The facts speak for themselves. However, the majority of the book is a fairly clinical description of the process of identifying Eichmann and the planning and execution of his capture and transfer to Israel. In that, it does a first-rate job. It would make a pretty decent fiction. Knowing that this was fact adds to the pleasure of reading. 4* rather than 5* because the author is obviously trying much harder than necessary to impress..

Gripping and well told
I turned to this book in the middle of reading various Daniel Silva spy novels, including one involving the Holocaust. My wife and I are currently addicted to Silva, and I figured that The Nazi Hunters would be a break that would provide interest but not the sort of page-turning, late-at-night narrative that Silva's novels always give. Wrong! This book is gripping from start to finish. It is very well researched, and told with a storyteller's gift for narrative; I couldn't put it down. Bascomb brilliantly relates the details of the hunt for Eichmann, and the meticulous planning that went into his capture and secret smuggling out of Argentina. Eichmann was a monster, though of course he maintained till the last that tired defense: that in arranging the capture and transportation to death of millions of innocent people he was "just following orders". It is remarkable that the men involved in bringing him to justice - most of whom had lost family in the Holocaust - resisted what must have been the strong temptation to kill him, and instead gave him the kind of trial that he never permitted his victims. I've read a lot of Holocaust literature, and this is a worthy addition to the best of that genre.

My Review on "The Nazi Hunters"
This is coming from a some what knowledgable 11 year old girl, but I absolutely LOVED this book. I have always been fascinated with WWII and I finally found another book about it. I really like how it explains the capture of the less famous, but much more evil of a person, Adolf Eichmann, who I never knew existed. I also cannot believe how he stayed in hiding for 15 years until his capture. This book was a SMASHING read. I thought there was not a single part of the book that was boring or not interesting. I kept turning the pages on my iPad to see what would happen next. I can tell you, I really enjoyed this book and if you are interested in WWII and want a good book to read about it, choose this book to read. I highly recommend this book! I would also like to say thank you for writing it! :)

The Nazi Hunters; The Nazi Hunters: How a Team of Spies and Survivors Captured the World's Most Notorious Nazi by Neal Bascomb
The pursuit and capture of Adolf Eichmann after 15 years as part of the Nazi plan to exterminate the Jews was a profound and thrilling read. The secret plan was thoroughly planned by Jews who personally survived the Holocaust and lost loved ones in the concentration camps and the government officials of Israel. A highly recommended read for young adults and adults as a reminder of the atrocities by Hitler and the Germans against the Jews. Six million were exterminated and many were shot, beaten, starved and worked to death in addition to the furnaces of the concentration camps.

Great read
This book is a must read for any student who is studying the Holocaust. The work done by the the Israelis shows the hard work of several people to capture someone who made such a terrible impact on the world.

Amazing story of the hunt for Eichmann and the serendipitous manner in which he was discovered in Argentina. Aside from the unique nature of his capture and removal to Israel is the determination of Ben Gurion to try Eichmann as a matter of a teaching experience for the world. Well worth reading together with another book, The Hunting of Eichmann.

The book is very short and could have had few more chapters on the holocaust. Also bit more on the escape

A fast paced and exciting read, made all the more exciting because itโs based upon fact. The kind of book that I wished was twice as long.

Love it. I have such great admiration for those who hatched this plan to get Adolf Eichman. It is truly one of the most satisfying moments in post war history and the effort to show the world what happened in Nazi Germany and who did it. This books walks you through the secret covert mission step by step and the relentless focus and dedication of those who carried out this mission. A TRULY GREAT historical account. Mesmerizing. It shows the heart and soul of Isreal and the determination to right the wrongs of the Holocaust by showing the world who did this and making him stand trial in Isreal. It is such a pivotal moment in history. This book has it all. I've sent it and recommended it to so many people.
