Cooks rice as it should
Cooks rice as it should, does its job. The stainless pot will stain over time, particularly the bottom part, losing its glossiness, but still safer than other deteriorating non-stick coatings.

Great little economical Stainless Steel rice cooker!
I purchased this rice cooker to assist my old Stainless Tatung rice cooker and my newer fuzzy logic rice cooker. Why do I need different rice cookers? I like the rice cooked in the newer fuzzy logic cooker. But I found cooking anything with hard shells or bones seem to degrade the finish of the nonstick inner pot (think seafood cajin rice, chicken drumstick pilaf rice, or asian rib rice dishes). I don't want to replace those nonstick inner pot every few months nor do I wish to use badly-scratched-up teflon inner pot for my rice (I think $40 for the inner pot?). So I use cooker with stainless inner pot for those application.I've been using a Ta-tung automatic rice cooker with stainless steel inner pots for more than 30 years. My old Ta-tung rice cooker has stainless inner pot, aluminum enclosed heating unit in the bottom of the outer pot, and requires water in the outer pot to cook rice. After three decades of cooking rice, stew, soup, cake, bread, and everything that fits, the outer pot's aluminum is not very appealing, even to this die hard Ta-tung fan. I found a new Ta-tung stainless rice cooker on Amazon with stainless less outer pot around $130 here http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Steel-Rice-Cooker-TAC-11KN/dp/B004FWL3UA/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=1-2&keywords=ta-tung+rice+cooker. Trust me, $130 is well worth it if it's used to the extend as its predecessor. But Amazon had an excellent price on the Aroma so I decided to try it. Here's the comparison to the Ta-tung and its Aroma nonstick cousins. The Aroma cooks similar to its nonstick cousin in regards to the design of the heating element. It requires no water in the outer pot. Actually the heating element is not completely enclosed which means it's not water proof. This is a major difference from the Ta-tung type cooker. The Ta-tung type cooker's outer pot is sealed and can be used as a cooking vessel without the inner pot. The Aroma also requires its specific innerpot, while a Ta-tung type of rice cooker will take any size of inner stainless steel pot as long as it fits.So many reviewers have explained the size of this cooker. I will just touch on the power. The 14-cup Aroma can bring a cup of cold water up to light steam in around one minute, to boiling in about 6-7 minute. A larger Ta-Tung stainless steel rice cooker can bring cold water to boiling in about 3 minute. The Aroma stainless steel cooker's stainless inner pot is not as heavy duty as the Ta-tung stainless steel. It also lost some of its shine after one use. But it serves its purpose. Its glass lid is great for see-through, but also makes crackling sound when used. I would not expect the Aroma inner pot, the glass lid, or the cooker itself to last past 30 years. This type of rice cooker all requires cooked rice to sit in the cooker for 10-20 minutes in order to achieve the preferred texture for most people, Aroma and Ta-tung alike. The rice cooked in these cooker will not have the same texture as the rice cooked in a Zojirushi or Tiger fuzzy logic rice cooker. I know because I have all of these and use them all the time. This is not to say one kind is definitely better than the other because everyone has a different taste for their food (or rice). I know people who must have sushi rice or no rice at all, then a Zoju or Tiger fuzzy logic is probably the most convenient way to cook. I also know some cheaper rice cookers cook Jasmine rice better than Japanese rice. So if a person knows exactly what kind of rice they prefer, they can choose the rice cooker for their special needs. There are so many things I want to talk about this rice cooker. But there are so many great reviews already so I'll stop. Bottom line is... if this Aroma rice cooker is at a good sale price, I think it deserves a solid four star as long as one keeps the expectation right.

Great Product - Just Needs an Off Switch
If you plan to use this frequently around your house, do yourself a favor and add an inline switch. You'll thank me later. 4 stars for missing a built-in off button. A gazillion stars for an otherwise great product.

No burnt rice on bottom of pot, no bubbling mess coming out of vent hole, and good jasmine rice!
My 20 yr old rice cooker pot is teflon coated, realized the other day that a lot of the teflon had come off all around the inside bottom. Never noticed it in the cooked rice, so it must have been coming off in tiny pieces. Decided to get a stainless steel rice cooker, I throughly rinse my jasmine rice three times, then "sometimes" let it soak in hot water for 10-15 min before adding to pot, makes for more tender rice if I am not in a hurry. I used the included measuring cup for two cups of rice, that equals 1-1/2 cups of rice, and added 1-2/3 cups of distilled water (just over the 2 measuring line in the pot). After 25-30 min. turned rice cooker off (no more steam coming out of vent hole) and removed pot with lid from cooker and let sit on cork pad for at least 10 min. while I prepared my dinner veggies and meat. Then use a silicone spatula to remove the rice, it all comes out easily with no rice stuck on the bottom of the pot. Also there was no water or rice starch residue on the outside of the glass cover. Great rice cooker! I made an insulated cover for the glass lid to make it more energy efficient, with an opening for the vent hole, and also lined the inside of the cooker with the same double faced 1/4" thick aluminum foil insulation. Now if I am in a hurry to eat dinner and remove rice right after the steam stops coming out of the vent hole, then a thin layer of rice will stick to the bottom of the pot.Update, normally I cook rice nearly every night, but realized with this rice cooker I could easily cook 4-dinners worth of rice at once. So now I cook 3 cups of rinsed/soaked jasmine rice with 3 cups of water, and then after it has cooled for 10 min on coutertop. I divide rice into 4 sections and put each one into a separate glass storage container in frig., so now only need to cook rice once every 5 days. Saves energy and time/effort, just use microwave to warm up each for 3 min.
