Resist and Masking Techniques (Ceramics Handbooks)
R**R
Useful and comprehensive
Helpful in many ways. Not a lot of new ideas, but the author does include instructions on his own unique approach to wax resist techniques.

Just okay.
These techniques can be found in other, more comprehensive books.

Useful reference for improving potters.
A good source of reference for developing potters who want to extend their skills and understanding of different decoration techniques. Not quite as extensive as I had hoped hence the 3star. Had really hoped for more info on how Peter Beard creates to colours and finishes he does but he kept it a bit secret which is understandable I suppose. Interesting read and worth having as part of ones collection.

Good book but missing something.
I bought this book by Peter Beard after seeing his work in St. Ives. It is a comprehensive review of masking and resist techniques but I was a bit disappointed that he provides only a very vague description of how he gets his own results. It's an age old problem with pottery books. They show you a picture of a gorgeous piece then fail to deliver on how you can get that finish. But I did find a good book that shows some very advanced ceramics work and actually provides all the necessary information: Check out Ceramic Glazes: The Complete Handbook by Brian Taylor and Kate Doody. As for Mr. Beard - make an informative video of your process and you'll sell lots. I'll wait while you do that.
