It makes wheel alignment that much easier to do.
I've always wanted one of these and could never really justify spending that amount on an item that isn't really needed but how wrong I was. My chain was way off line and this reassurance gives me peace of mind.

Professionally useful.
I’m a professional motorcycle mechanic and got this for clarification of alignment. The on/off is activated and deactivated by twisting the little chrome tube ( it looks like a button on the photo) which is where the battery is located. Turning it simply makes the live or the earth contact which turns the beam on. The magnet is sufficient to hold the unit to the rear sprocket but sometimes you’ll need to physically hold or move the unit to get a reading along the chain length to the front sprocket. I’ve another device again used for alignment but it is fitted to the top of the sprocket which requires chain guard removal whereas this little unit operates on the bottom run of the chain. Probably a tad dear for what it is but the same can be said for Snap-On tools but doesn’t stop me buying them. Worth the purchase if you’re going to use it regularly.

Good!
Good bit of kit. Could do with a stronger magnet but, ok!

Useful, could be better for the rpice
Cool little gadget, the magnet really needs to be stronger as it barely holds on to the sprocket. For the price it could definitely be improved, but it does the job.

Hardly magnetic. Does not 'sitck' to ANY steel surface
A very good product. Gives a very visible line along the chain run.DownsideThe 1 I have has hardly any magnetism in it. It will not fix to ANY steel surface let alone the sprocket. Means I haver to manually hold the alignment tool agains the sprocket and then put it down make an adjustment to the tensioners and repeat the process.I will be keeping it but not sure the extra £10 for the magnetic version was a good buy

Running true is the key
I like the fact you can align the chain and sprockets correctly, even if the swingarm marks don’t correspond. True alignment is best. This does the great job of taking out the guesswork

Older version is better...
Been using the older version of these for best part of 10yrs and they are fab.Supplied as either a dot matrix laser, or solid line, depending on the cost you choose.Totally dependable accuracy, regardless of the swingarm design. Does take some practice initially, and you might find you need to to be in low light, such as a garage space or in evening light to see the laser line clearly.I've heard some say sprocket design can affect true alignment, but with all the bikes I've used this on, it's never been an issue.Be sure to screw the cap to OFF when not in use - they can eat power, even over a few minutes. The newer versions of the CAT laser uses a pack of 3 batteries in a sleeve - AG5 / LR48You could be locked in to buying these as a pack exclusively from a PROFI distributor, because placing them in a slot when they're not pre-packed in a sleeve is a headache.... .I've got both - and the older version is more dependable. They use x 2 AG13 / LR44In the UK, ProBike in Northampton have been a long term distributor. They're great for spares as well as other parts and advice. I notice Amazon isn't well supported by Profi - who make these in Germany.Ordering spares from the EU is now a major import tax / VAT headache :(
