My bounty is as boundless as the sea, My love as deep.....as some poet said
What is love? How many kinds of love are there? Love as feeling, love as action, love as a way of relating to others or to our own experience. What if we were guided in a deep phenomenological investigation of opening to love, our fears surrounding it, the obstacles to feeling love or actively loving others, its central importance in our desiring and needs. It’s possible relation to honesty and truth. It’s relation to our psychological history, our wounds, our personality, our spiritual yearnings, and our many human possibilities?Isn’t it crazy we’re taught math and doge ball in school but somehow we’re just supposed to figure out love on our own and rarely do we even find a space to inquire and ask questions about the things that matter most? It’s a little crazy.Luckily this book offers such a space and opportunity. This book is an inquiry into love within a spiritual and psychological [mostly psychoanalytical] context. It’s the first book in a three part series. I loved this book.

Helpful
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. This was a book I got to help me with my daily journaling and to help me look deeper into my thoughts and the love I have for myself and awakening the love I need in my life. The book was easy enough to read and follow the little exercises and questions that are offered up. I will go back to this book time and time again when I need to be reminded to love myself.

A treasure trove of understanding
Why buy a book on love? The author answers the question in various terms, one of which is, "Love is a fundamental ingredient that the soul needs for its survival and development."The veils are the mental barriers which block our access to love. A few veils identified in the book are:The belief that love is feminine, and so weak. The belief that "if you love, you shouldn't feel anger, hatred, fear, jealousy. All those feelings should be shunned ..."The belief that there's something wrong with loving ourselves - it's selfish or narcissistic. Yet narcissism reveals an inability to love oneself: "... we want to have other people love and adore us, idealize us and think we're wonderful ... We want people to see our capacities, our preciousness, and our beauty because we ourselves can't see these things and appreciate them."Interspersed with the more straightforward exploration of love is the metaphor of seeking "unity with the Beloved". I felt uncomfortable with it when I first met it, but it began to make more sense as I progressed through the more reasoned parts of the book.
