Verbose but Amazing
We already did much of what this book was suggesting. I suppose that's why we bought it -- we already were interested in being efficient. So basically it just reinforced much of what we were already doing -- it's part of our family rule on "Order". Sounds strict, but honestly we have a happy household and this plays a key because it's always clean and neat doesn't get out of hand and so it's relaxing. It's relaxing to have a nice environment and rules -- this doesn't mean rigid and formal, but that instead of deciding and debating what to do and should be done we can enjoy ourselves. We are big followers of Montessori and many of the principles follow that, such as always picking up after yourself. The kids had been doing this and our house is basically always clean and neat. If you have kids, you might benefit from learning about Montessori home organization -- this plays a big role in children being able to clean up after themselves. In fact our children started doing much cleaning up without being taught once we organized according to Montessori. This books had lots of helpful tips on the actual cleaning. Our favorite (which I had seen on this old house) was how to wash windows better. Now I have a window cleaning fetish. You will do well to be a fast reader. He get's very excited and goes on and on. Probably could've been about 1/5 the size. His excitement however is nice and worth the extra words.

WORTH EVERY PENNY !!! (or read Cent where applicable)
I originally bought this title in the late 80s, at a second hand book fair. WOW !!!! Don Aslett is a hygiene genius, he not only has recorded his mistakes, gone into HOW equipment works, which cleaning chemicals do work, their best materials to work on. But I can honestly say, developed this into a unique science now. He also runs his own cleaning supplies website, with precisely the best cleaning products from the commercial sector & had applied it to the domestic user. He explains WHY bulk purchase of cleaning products, how to manage correct dosage, why simple hand held garden sprays are perfect for such use. I originally learnt how to use liquid floor polish for shining domestic parquet flooring with a few mop swipes. Aslett explains how choosing the right outside mat (Astro-turf) CAN dramatically reduce how MUCH dirt gets carried into a persons house. Wouldn't everyone like to know, that they can spend far less time cleaning floors, given that most of the footwear cleaning was done before people came into that home?My regrets being that I was unable to keep this title when I moved home, it was sadly lost in packing of everything. Now I am able to use it to plan my own housekeeping arrangements for the future. I wish that Don Aslett could run courses in the UK. This is worth EVERY penny/cent, it will soon pay for itself in savings made - TRUST ME !!!

Clean like the pros!
When I was a new stay-home mom, I was overwhelmed with housework. I bought a lot of "how to clean the house books", and they were mostly the tricks of how other moms do it. Don Aslett is different: he is a Janitor. He says, "Don't clean the way your mom taught you; do it like the professionals!" Janitors have to get it done quickly and efficiently so they can move on to the next house. Moms need to get it done so they can get down to the business of quality time with their family.I threw out all my grocery-store products, and went down to the janitorial supply. It was a lot cheaper. (And if I had not read the book, I would not have known to ask for the "professional discount", which they gave me.) I was cleaning the house with less energy and getting more results.Don Aslett is the guru of house cleaning: he knows a lot, he shares all the info, and he is funny.

Mood LIfter!
It has been about 28 years since I read the first version and have had a much better life for it. Decided to read the second version to get re-energized and excited about getting on top of housework. I liked the first version best, probably because it was all a new concept to me then, but this updated version was a great chance to be charged up again and to encourage others. I will pass this book on just as I did with my first 5 copies of the first book..

Read it, tried it and it worked..........
After reading How to have a 48-hour day I couldn't wait to read another one of his books. It's such an easy read and it's packed with useful, easy information from beginning to end. After finishing it, I tested out his plan for tackling the house on little time and it truly worked like a charm. It cut my cleaning time in half and it looked half way done just after doing the first step. It also gives you a perfect plan to follow to deep clean every inch of your house in an easy but productive way. I loved it and will be using it forever. I already have another one of his books on the way and can't wait to read it.

To Whom would I recomment this book
I would recommend this book our kids and grandkids. I bought this second copy to give to my recently married granddaughter and her husband who have just acquired their first house, a fixer upper. An organize and speedy approach to housework using the right tools can be utilize by anyone living in a house or an apartment and even a cave. I like and am using many of the ideas in the book. The author's sense of humor makes it a fun read.

Very usefull
Very fun and full of ideas but it should have more options on the cleaning products listed. Since I am in Brazil I don't have access to some of the products he listed as essential!

Very helpful. Gives good advice, and a suggested cleaning schedule that's not rigid, but effective. Lots of good instruction and practical methods.

Learnt a lot that added to my housework
The author surely knows what he is talking about. He has extensive experience and has structured the book clearly for readers to navigate. A lot of what I am doing was re-confirmed and detail added. The reason why this book has three stars is:- The author has no answer on what to do with the children, which as a mother of two small children is my biggest hinderance to cleaning- The products are American and I have found it difficult to source the equivalent in the UK- A lot of the cleaning areas decribed like washing walls and ceilings or lightbulbs I have never done in my life. Would I follow everything in the book I would add 70% to my ousework rather than reducing it.In summary the book gives good instructions for cleaning but for me at least is not reducing what to do or the time it takes. My highlight in the book was the section on matting. I replaced all indoor florr mats and added outdoor ones and absolutely love them. It is still to early to say how much less cleaning there will be for that.

Clean smarter, not harder
This book provides a professional cleaner's advice on keeping your house clean without spending every waking hour vacuuming, dusting and scrubbing. This includes equipment and supplies you will need as well as how to use them. I read it through from start to finish, and still find myself dipping in for advice several years on. There is a lot of information in here and it really takes several readings to retain all the relevant bits. It was written by an American, so UK readers may have to look up some of the products mentioned in the book as some things were not familiar to me. It can't clean your house for you, but if you want a guide for cleaning smarter, not harder, this is it.

Don Aslett is the best!
Don Aslett has changed my life. I've read a number of his books, but my two favourites are this one and "Make your house do the housework". So practical, with years of experience behind all his cleaning information and recommendations. Now we are building a house and I am using his systems to design a lot of the housework out of it.
