Bless Janice Holt Giles!
I have read almost all of the books by Janice (I even used them when teaching literature classes). She wrote with such ease and had such a "homey" feeling in her Fowler family characters that I have read several of her books more than once. I wish we had authors now who can really WRITE!

Janice Holt Giles, one of the best writers ever!! GREAT BOOK!!
No one can write a book as well as Janice Holt Giles did. I read her books over and over. Wish there were books out there like that today. I highly recommend this book!!

NATURAL COUNTRY,CALL IT HOME
A wonderful book about a young man, pre WW2,living inthe hills of Kentucky and he was one of those hill peoplewho lived there-generation upon generation and oh,WORKEDTHEMSELVES TO THE BONE AND ALMOST FOR NOTHING !This is the gist of this book. A young man working himselfalmost to death and getting no where ...he becomes confused, scared, angry, and escapes. First by going off to work -a couple hundredmiles away, then later into the army where,he eventually comes backhome, many ,many years later finally, figuring out he was ALWAYS the personhe was born to be-in the hills,in the country.

I Loved This Book
They were about to discard "The Enduring Hills," at my sister in law's church when she said she wanted it. She read and really enjoyed it. She then loaned it to me to read. I loved it. It isn't a syrupy romance novel, but the well written tale of real people from the hills of Kentucky and their joys and struggles. The ending was very touching and brought me back to what really matters. While there is a rightful place for money and the material possessions money buys, in and of themselves they do not make for contentment and true happiness. A richness of relationships with God, family and faithful friends are are one part of the recipe for true happiness. Another part is fulfilling work and time to enjoy the blessings of nature. The best things in life aren't free, but require diligent work. Even so, they are simple and do not force a person to go faster than the speed of thought. Today's hectic pace has caused people to lose touch with life's true treasures, which we definitely need to rediscover. "The Enduring Hills" helps one to do just that. I love to write and read well written poetry. Much of the author's writing style reminds me of well written poetry.
