I did not enjoy the first...1/5?...of this book. Breezy snark....was it all going to be this fingers-on-the-chalkboard eeeesh? Inertia more than anything had me continue. UF writers do face the initial challenge at the start of book #1...introduce some of characters, show don't tell how this universe might start unfolding. For me the ship righted itself in time for me to stay on board. Interesting characters, world, and enough action to start things along. That began, again for me, when the MC gets out of a jail cell. The book starts with him there, so it's not a spoiler to share he does get out so the story can begin. So I'm now off again to read another series..

Amazing World
I slipped into Kit’s magical world excited to see how old tropes could become exciting again. BIG MISTAKE on my part. The story has dozens of glorious twists and turns, never seen before magical battles, a bit of romance, LOTS of jokes, some archaic history all while weaving you into a unique world of magic.*Spoilers*Kit was / is an orphan. He learns about Mythicals (magic) when recruited into a crooked company. Magical companies are basically for Mythicals doing business in the real world with enough non-magical clients to keep magic hidden. I mean you do need magic folks as bounty hunters and it’s probably easy money to track humans. Well Kit’s company is a very shady law firm that is taken down at the start of this novel one year from Kit discovering the magical world. He’s know he could do some magic but he gets a haphazard course in it.So Kit’s story starts at the collapse of his firm after a he and several members of his firm are in magical suppression jail. This is the perfect way for the reader to learn about Kit’s world since he’s just learning about it. He has his own definitions but he is taught proper terminology and how it is measured in this society.Ultimately I loved this book because I’ve never read anything closely resembling it. It is funny from page one, there are no less than 6 magical show downs, and I couldn’t anticipate any thing except that Kit was / is a good guy who in the end will decide to do the right thing.I plan to read the next book with just as much wide eyed wonder as I did with this one. I’m glad I picked it up.

Awesome but I’m kinda confused by it all
I put off starting this series for a LONG time, so much that I managed to finish all the other series in this world and forgot about it until recently. Why? Simply because the brief scene at the end of one of the Tori books introducing MagiPol and Kit was just boring and I was interested in learning about this entity that kept making all the other protagonists of the other series put out all the stops to circumvent them by any means necessary. So what changed? Well any fan of those other series in this world will tell you that Kit is a super solid guy and a friend that has no problem operating in the grey area to save a friend and it was an opinion that clashed with that first impression. All in all, this initial outing into how Kit got involved with MPD did not disappoint in the slightest. However, the timeline didn’t quite match up with the first book of Tori’s series and quite honestly, I didn’t care one bit!I can’t wait to dive into book two!

Liked Kit in previous series
This booked dragged some after the action of the 3 mages. Plus, I got tired of Kit getting hurt over and over with no friends.I’ll try the next book in the series through kindle unlimited.

Very enjoyable read
I couldn't put this book down. It was fun to read and I loved the characters. I would highly recommend it to readers who love fantasy, magic and even a bit of love.

But what happens to Maggie?! 🥺
That's the only question that I have after reading the entire story. This is actually the last series of Annette Marie's works that I've read. I have full confidence that this is going to be one hell of a ride. All of her work has been outstanding so far.But I do believe that it feels like a open ending not to know what happens to the character of Maggie Cook at the end of the story, especially after everything she's been going through. She sounds like a great character, so I hope that I found out in the next book!I definitely recommend this urban fantasy series if you like Misfits trying to escape the law, have compassion in an unfair system, humor, a lot of magical shenanigans, and plenty of twists.

Enjoyable
Definitely a fun read, and it is a refreshing change to have a male protagonist in a paranormal series (instead of the usual feisty, clichéd female).

A good read, nice story
I think I had a bit of a hard time at the beginning, getting 'into' the male character. I do very much enjoy the concertrated characterization of all of Annette Marie's characters. The story ramped up and there were some great moments. I actually almost teared up in the 'Hawaii' scene. I do always enjoy the action scenes, and overall I give this a five because of entertainment value. It wasn't as 'gritty' as most of Annette Marie's Books, and was more Young Adult than I am used to from her. I knew with a new co-author it would change the dynamic somewhat, but once I got used to the male perspective it was pretty good!

After Guild Codex: Spellbound and Demonized ended, I am very happy with this one. Kit Morris is an intriguing character and I am liking the way story is going forward.

Surprising, Exciting
For several years now I roam in the literacy category of X+Y solve case to save the world+demons+magic+love. The formula is often filled with characters whose only traits are 'feisty' (which often means unnecessarily rude when they don't get what's going on) or sassy (funny oneliners in every situation unless the author realises that emotions are required). In this case, I hit gold. This book has 2 characters with agendas and personalities beyond the plot. Especially the 1st person narrated is bothered and plagued by the feelings and fears of someone who ends up in a surreal arrest situation in which he doesn't understand the system, the charges and how to navigate the process. Left with no options and feeling like he has to fend for himself, he makes and discards plans, always weighing danger against possible success rate. The female protagonist also isn't a femm fatale who immediately falls for him or a yet to crack love interest. She is dutiful and devoted to her job, though empathy and morals frequently shine through.I think the characters convinced me. If you want an uninspired slog fest with magic you need to look somewhere else.Other than that the story was exciting, full of suspense and fast paced with appropriate time skips and character development. And the writing style was a pleasure. I grinned a lot and was thoroughly entertained. Now where's book 2?

New Guild Codex trilogy
I enjoyed meeting Kit, and reading about his life as a (former) mythic conman and his run ins with MPD and rogue guilds. Very fast paced and funny, I'm looking forward to the next book!
