New. Remains in Factory Wrap. Review: Incredible DVD- This is the true U2 experience - This DVD truly captures what it feels like to be at a U2 concert. U2 is one of the most amazing rock bands live and we see that here. This concert was filmed in Dublin outside of Slane Castle. There are some great shots of the band with the castle in the background. What truly separates this DVD from others is the band's mood as well as the enthusiasm of the crowd. There were over 80,000 people at this concert. U2 was truly happy to be back home and it clearly showed. There is a real connection in this DVD with the crowd. This DVD captures the raw emotion that one feels when going to a U2 concert; the transformation from being a spectator to an active participant of the U2 experience. Yes, U2 is a great band. Bono is one of the best singers around with a beautiful voice. The Edge is one of the best guitar players in the Rock world. But this one is about having a good time at a great concert. There are some great performances on this DVD. The concert opens with an energetic performance of Elevation. The crowd is abosolutely energized. Another great performance is Until the End of the World. Bono's cranks up the vocals in New Year's Day. He sings it with great emotion. A true highlight of the concert is Out of Control. Bono acts as if U2 is a new band introducing their first single. He screams "We hope you like it" and brilliantly starts singing the song. He later introduces each band member and where they are from. As the song slows down, he thanks each parent of the band for giving them 500 pounds so they can get their music career going. He then thanks the crowd for giving them at least 500 pounds each day and roars back into the song with the crowd going into a frenzy. Really breathtaking. Almost every song is worth talking about on this DVD. I only will discuss 2 more. U2 delivers a brilliant performance of All I Want is You. It is a truly romantic love song that is shared by couples as "their song". Bono dedicates this song to his wife. The vocals and music are truly a thing of beauty. Bono gets the crowd to chant along with him on this song. Eventually, the music stops. Bono and the crowd continue to chant back and forth. As this is going on, we hear the familiar begining of Where the Streets Have No Name. This is the highlight of the concert. As the lights start flashing and the Edges guitars begin to rev up, Bono starts running around the stage which extends into the crowd. The crowd goes into a frenzy and Bono starts singing. You could barely hear Bono singing because the crowd is singing along so loud with him. Truly incredible performance. An even better perfomance of Where the Streets Have No Name is recorded on the Boston tour DVD. That version of the song may be the best live performance of a song that I have ever seen. The U2 Go Home DVD may be the best recorded concert ever. If you're a U2 fan, you won't be disappointed. If you're not a fan, you will be after watching this concert. Review: Cool concert DVD - Entertaining concert. Probably was better performed at the start of the tour. Audio could of been ramped up a little when put on DVD.

really awesome!!!
Having rented and seen the Boston concert once some months ago, I really was doubting it could hardly get matched or even improved because of the image and sound quality and the huge costs that you can really see in the production of the Boston concert video. Besides, the cover of this particular DVD didn't tell me anything special about this concert, since it looked a bit understated for me. How could it possibly match the Boston show? But, fortunately, when something grabs my attention, eventhough it may just grab a tiny little bit of it, I always like to read the reviews and opinions of other people regarding a product or subject, whenever this is possible. Having read all the raving reviews about this concert, I was encouraged to give it a try, specially after reading the opinion of people who have seen both shows and described this one as being better. I'm happy I was curious, since this show really rocks!!! As most reviewers mentioned, this show makes the Boston show feel as the band was under some unspoken pressure and made them look kinda distant (without taking anything away from the show's spectacularity). I just received my copy yesterday, but because of time limitations, I was just able to watch 5 tracks but you could really tell the greatness and joy of the band being in their home, with their "tribe" as Bono put it. I think, that soundwise this shows sounds a little (but just a little) weaker and less defined (at least in my home set)than the Boston show, but the sound is still great!! Overall, this concert really feels in better mood than the Boston show and it really captures the joy of being home with your tribe!!! U2 is a band that really will always have something to give to their audience on their shows, although their latest couple of album recordings couldn't match their "classic" ones (i.e. before Achtung Baby, which was really the last biggest smash seeing the album as a whole)althought they really got pretty close, but they'll always be there as an iconic rock band of all-time. Keep up the good work, guys!!

Limited Love for the DVD of an Incredible Show. . .
I had already seen U2's CBS special entitled 'U2's beautiful day' that aired more than a year ago and knew how special this concert was to U2 fans and to the band. There was an incredible energy there that evening and U2 seemed to love every minute of it. Indeed, I have been hoping for this release since seeing that special. I even lobbied for its release with Bono when I ran into him in NYC this past spring. Usually U2 can do no wrong in my eyes. I guess I expected too much from the world's greatest band. BOTTOM LINE: If you love U2, you'll like this DVD and it's worth purchasing. There are some precious moments, like when Bono is talking about their families' respective financial contributions when they were starting out 20 years earlier. This DVD adds some tracks missing from the Boston DVD: One, Mysterious ways, and Pride, all of which were sorely missed from that production. Where's the Behind the scenes/Making of documentary? Bizarre. However, I still get goose bumps whenever I watch `Where the Streets Have No Name' on this DVD, so it passes that test. THE DVD: **16:9 gritty video with a substandard set of 5.1 mixes-- the DTS is not any better than the DD, but they're both below the standard previously set by the Boston DVD, which I thought was a lot better. However, Bono's vocals are incredibly good and come through very clearly. There are not enough crowd microphones-- you can barely here them at some key times. I can't even put my finger on exactly what's wrong with the audio, it just doesn't carry enough of the emotion that there was that night. **NO documentary of this show, which I found amazingly odd-- the CBS special had some touching moments of Bono talking about his father who had just passed away. I find it very strange that there's nothing about U2 returning to Slane. **Annoying menus that seem slapped together at the last minute. OVERALL: Not a polished U2 production- better than Popmart, but certainly not as good as the Boston DVD. I wish the audio was more engaging. Odd omissions (documentary about THIS concert and not the Unforgettable Fire) and I'll never understand why mysterious ways is a separate track, regardless of how it 'fit in.' ------------------------------------------------------------ From U2.com: U2 Go Home is presented in PCM Stereo, DTS and Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. Aspect ratio 16:9. Here's the tracklisting: Performance from Slane, 1st September , 2001 * Elevation * Beautiful Day * Until The End Of The World * New Year's Day * Out Of Control * Sunday Bloody Sunday * Wake Up Dead Man * Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of * Kite * Angel Of Harlem * Desire * Staring At The Sun * All I Want Is You * Where The Streets Have No Name * Pride (In The Name Of Love) * Bullet The Blue Sky * With Or Without You * One * Walk On Bonus track: Mysterious Ways

U2 is best when seen live, and this DVD delivers it.
As Bono once said in an interview, U2 lives out on the road, and no booteg, no DVD no Paramount movie has captured it better than the Slane DVD. This DVD is significantly better than the Live from Boston DVD for so many reasons: 1) the DVD captures the spirit of the crowd, the organic intensity and passion in what U2 loves to do--make music--and the symbiotic relationship U2 feels with its crazy fans in a live show; 2) the filmmaking is much more spontaneous and rough, giving the viewer/listener a much more authentically visceral experience of an unforgettable U2 show; 3) all the songs in the lineup are included in the Slane DVD, namely, "New Years Day," "One," and "Mysterious Ways," all staples of the Elevation tour but curiously not included in the Boston DVD, and 4) the sound mix is much more robust and enveloping than the elevation DVD: Edge's thrashing guitar during "Until the End of the World" and "Bullet", Adam's rumbling bass during "New Year's Day" and "Mysterious Ways," Bono's vocal passion as he howls at the wind during "New Years Day," and Larry Mullen Jr.'s hard hitting drums during "Sunday Bloody Sunday. The introduction and the performance during "Out of Control," sends chills. Apparently, producer Ned O'Hanlon mentioned in an interview that signifcantly less money was spent on this production than the Boston show. As U2 has been discovering with the last album, less is so much more.

A Sort of Homecoming
About half of this show appeared on CBS-TV in the USA months before the DVD release in a documentary titled "U2's Beautiful Day". In this documentary we learn that on the day of this concert Bonos father has passed. The second of two huge sold-out shows at Sloan Castle a crowd that MUST have topped 6 figures wait enthusiasticly in the rain for arguably the best performance the band has ever given. The 5 channel DTS mastering on the DVD is amazing, the video unfortunatley is a bit over compressed. During a heartfelt speech during "Out of Control" Bono talks about the 500 pounds his father loaned him to record their first demo and thanks the fans for the 500 pounds they each have given the band over the years. Unlike the Boston video recorded a few months earlier the set is complete and relatively un-doctored and truly captures the energy of the bands live performance. I haven't stopped watching this long enough to put it in my PC and check out the DVD-ROM features, But I did watch the "Unforgettable Fire" documentary which seems longer than the one I had on VHS, Admitedly its been a few years since I have watched it so I could be mistaken.

Great understanding of the band, has a true feeling of the moment!
I read the book U2 by U2 and I've seen the other vids, but reading the book and seeing this vid gave me such great insight into this concert. IThis concert has so much meaning, more than the others, cuz Bono's Dad passed shortly before and he and the band played with an emotion and looseness that you cannot find on other vids. Watch and see the playfullness. Adam had a great night and Edge went off! Bono's vocals were top notch also. GREAT CONCERT! Sound quality is superb and the video quality and production is very nice. It gives a good feel of being very close to the performers. This is a must have DVD.

It wasn't just a dream . . .
This is great! I bought it originally as a VHS - and was afraid to play it as often as I wanted to . . .you're reading a guy who completely wore out his Rage Against The Machine cassette. That Lennon attitude, the chewing of gum throughout the performance, the occasional self deprecation which often marks genuine unforced talent. . yes, it made me wish I had actually been able to see him live myself. At the time of original purchase and viewing I thought there was too much Yoko but I don't feel that way now. This was, after all, John Lennon - not the Beatles - and without "Grapefruit" there would have been no "Imagine". Of course, without her marriage to John Lennon, I doubt whether there would ever have been much notice taken of Yoko. That would have been a pity. At the end of what would turn out to be John Lennon's last ever concert, Yoko Ono reads out a telling extract from someone fortunately long-dead that seemed to mirror the realities of the then Richard Nixon America. Quite apart from the music, this little piece dug up by Yoko seems as relevant now as it was then. I've been lucky enough to have found a decent dvd of this concert now, through Amazon, so I can watch and rewatch without worry as a backdrop to the "Events" we are all, one way and another, living through now. I'd thorougly recommend anyone reading this to do the same - it might even help!

The U2 fans are obviously happy bouncers after waiting in rain outside the venue with their tickets, bought with hard-earned euros. The brightly-lighted Slane Castle that was loaned by a man called George is quite impressive at the rear of the huge crowd. Bono remembers the families of the band members supporting them with 500 British pounds in loans before they signed their first contract in the seventies, not Sony in the eighties. The third song is " Until The End Of The World " , my favourite U2 song, just like on the 360 Rose Bowl dvd. U2 play that song at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, California about the reality of life on earth this entire century. The # 16 song titled " Bullet The Blue Sky ", a song I adore about America's air force, starts the encore of four songs. A worthless, former terrorist group called Irish Republican Army, formerly led by the evil Mr. Adams, is mentioned by Bono after song # 3, " Until The End Of The World ".
