Not gonna lie, I first got this book because of the wonderfully strange name Barsanuphius. But this collection of letters is amazing. Like a lot of the Desert Fathers, Barsanuphius and John of Gaza had people curious about the spiritual life, and asking for advice. But unlike so many other Fathers, who would answer 10-15 questions total in all the Collections of Desert Father Sayings—Barsanuphius and John answered HUNDREDS of questions. And they often answered the same questioners and their follow up questions. You really get the conversations with the saints. This is really a collection worth getting!

Barsanuphius was not lightly called "the Great". We just might owe this early Christian holy man an unfathomable debt, and I invite readers to search this book for themselves to find out why. In the search they will make acquaintance with two wonderful,loving men, ascetic teachers of ancient Palestine, whose knowledge and common sense about living the spiritual life come to us in their own words. This book contains treasure for those who are serious about Christian joy.
