Hand fitting is normal
I see reviews about too much hand fitting and folks installing with a sledge hammer, neither is right. I want a dove tail blank that needs to be hand fitted, it ain't hard y'all. Take a triangle file grind one side flat on a belt grinder, use the flat side against the top of the underside of the plug and take off a little at a time on both angles where it fits in the barrel( the blank not the barrel). It helps to have calipers to measure both the male and the female dovetail, about .002*.003 interference is what you are going after. It should then install with light taps of a brass punch and a hammer. This was long enough to fill the dovetail on my Pedersoli octagon barrel on 45/70 Rolling Block rifle. Excellent.

Perfect Solution
I got this for my Henry .17HMR when I removed the factory buckhorn sight. True it took some patience to file it down and continually check the fit until I could slide the blank in about 75% of the way by hand. I then applied some cold blue and did the final set with a few hammer taps. This blank is a big improvement over the open dovetail. Well made product and I'll definitely be ordering another for my other Henry.

Worked for my 10/22, but only with some hard pounding the marred up the slot blank's edges a bit...
I got this to fill in the rear sight dovetail on my Ruger 10/22, because another brand of slot blank that I got was WAY too loose. This one had the opposite problem. It fit, but only with a lot of pounding that slightly deformed the edges of it even though I made sure to carefully use a large, soft, brass punch... :( Part of the reason for this is likely that the edge of the slot blank you are supposed to pound on with the punch is curved, not flat. This attribute doesn't give you a large, flat, or sturdy surface area to set your punch against. I know the curved edge is probably meant to make it look more decorative, but I think it ends up sacrificing some ease of installation... The slot did go in 80% of the way pretty easily, which convinced me that I didn't need to do any custom filing or fitting. But I guess it deceived me, because that last 20% ended up being the beast that led to me marring up the edges of slot blank a bit. I suppose it still looks better than a blank dovetail though, so I don't have TOO much to complain about. I might carefully file down the marred edges if I feel like it one of these days, but for now it will have to do.

Buyer beware!!!
Got this for my 1953 marlin 336 because I had ordered a peep sight for the receiver I’m not new to building lever guns by any means started to slightly hammer into the dovetail and stopped because was not going in as easy as should and marred my barrel on my antique gun pretty good took about 5-10 minutes of dremil sanding to get It to fit right most likely this is due to inconsistent sizing on either the filler blank or the rifle but beware might have to do a lot of modification to fit right

5 Stars because it is exactly as it states.
I don't like the look that much when it's installed, but it looks better than leaving the dovetail exposed. I was thinking about grinding/sanding it down to make it more flush or smooth out the transition between it and the rifle. The product is high quality and works as described, I just don't personally like the way it looks.

Fits Marlin rear sight dovetail
Installed on a Marlin 336 when Input a rear peep sight on it. This is a must-have item which will enhamce the appearance of your rifle.

Good tight fit
Good tight fit, took a little convincing with a brass punch, but cleaned up the barrel appearance by filling in the dovetail slot left when taking out the rear sight and going to an aperture sight. One last thing to get hung up. Looks good, like a gunsmith had finished it.
