How to Write Poetry: A Guided Journal with Prompts

Very Helpful
I’ve just completed the last prompt of the last chapter of this book. After doing every suggestion included in every chapter, I’m prepared to give this five stars. I expected a simplistic “prompt of the day” approach, but this is much more complex, and it’s challenging in a good way.I used both The Ode Less Travelled and Rules for the Dance while I was going through this book, to give me poetic forms to use, because this book is about content ideas and word usage, not form. For me, this is not a criticism, but it’s something to note.If you actually take this book seriously, it can very much work your creative muscles. I highly recommend it.

It's a good book and challenging.... it's makes one reflect and let go of preconceived notions
As a poet with an MFA, it's valuable for the promts and challenges and finding ways towards the release of expression

I'm glad I bought it but
If you are a beginning poet in training this is not the book for you. It gives you the basics but they're the dirt basics but if you study it in conjunction with Mary Oliver's A Poetry Handbook (the grass) then you might have a decent beginning. I studied poetry years ago in college and because it was years ago I just wanted a refresher. This didn't give it to me. I gave it three stars because it is a visually pretty book (inside and out) and because the chapters are set up clearly and simply. It just needs more supportive info and Mary Oliver's book can give you that. Also the Mary Oliver book has examples but it doesn't have prompts nor the blank pages to write your lessons in. That's how I worked out it's deficiency, you might work it out in another way.

Solid Info
This book is clear and precise in its explanations of poetry concepts. Definitely a book you should take a look if you’re just starting out.

Useful but not helpful
The book is interesting, but I think it has more blank note pages than what you need to know about writing and a form or style.

Lovely little book -recommend
The book is lovely and insightful. It starts out very simply and teaches you more as you go on, first encouraging you to be a bit more imaginative with your work rather than sticking to set rules. There is a lot of blank pages for your own writing which I first thought was a little cheating to fill it out but to be honest I'd still say its very much worth it as the lessons are clear and helpful so blank pages can be forgiven, even helpful of you want to keep your attempts in one place.

Shallow
This book is well designed, but surprisingly lacking in content; every two page chapter is followed by four empty pages where you are expected to create your own subject matter.

Needs more detail
A beginners guide that’s light on content and detail. There are more blank pages for your notes than printed pages. You’ll get through the whole book in an hour or so.

It's nice
I think it's nice and helpful for beginners. I wasn't aware that there is writing pages for the person and i bought it for my husband. I think he might think it's a bit childish. But it is helpful and nice.
