I went to my regular endo appointment and asked for a prescription for nerve pain. She asked if I had tried the alpha lipoic acid as she had recommended on my last visit. I admitted that I didn't remember that recommendation so she wrote it down. When I got home, I researched the supplement and decided that I would order the 600 mg. and take it twice per day. I upped it to 3 x daily after a few weeks. At 6 weeks, I noticed a huge reduction in nerve pain. I rarely feel strong nerve pain now and when I do, it's mild. The only problem is that I have to take a lot of water with it to get it down. I don't know why, maybe the shape of the capsule. I don't have this problem with other meds or supplements. The second thing is that I need to take food with it otherwise it burns my esophagus a little bit after swallowing. The 3rd side effect for me is that my urine smells as if I had eaten asparagus. It's such an odd side effect but it doesn't bother me. Actually, none of the side effects bother me because this ala works so well. I'm glad I stuck with it for as long as I did . At 6 weeks, I really noticed a difference. My pcp was very interested when I told her about the alpha lipoic acid, asked questions and took notes. I can't wait to see my endo in a couple of days and report back about the effectiveness of this supplement. I chose this one because of the price. The other brands are super expensive. If I didn't need to concern myself with cost, I would pick one with a non-gelatin capsule.

First it is not a cure. But it helps to keep my blood sugar in a safe level. The key word is HELPS. I am on other meds and try to control my diet too. But every little bit helps.

I have type 2 diabetes and suffer with Diabetic neuropathy which is a type of nerve damage that can occur if you have diabetes. High blood sugar (glucose) can injure nerves throughout your body. I was finding it hard sleeping as it was worse at night in bed I did some research and found that taking ALA helps so I ordered straight away I'm so glad I did as from day one of taking I noticed a difference in my legs and I'm getting better sleep now, I will keep taking 2 a day for the foreseeable future

So this anti-oxidant is soluble in both lipids (fats) and water, and of course our bodies contain both. It also chelates out certain nasty metals to boot. Do your own due diligence, but I like the idea of a biological rust-remover that also takes out the trash. Makes your urine stink like you've eaten asparagus but oh well... overall good product, and this is the typical dosage used in the various positive medical research I reviewed on PubMed.

I am taking 2 capsules daily,lunchtime and bedtime and must say I am really impressed in the results,before taking them I was kept awake for hours with bad burning sensations in my toes and very tender skin on my feet,now I am virtually pain free most nights.This is the second purchase I have made and obviously will be making more.I can highly recommend this product to anyone,give it a try and see.

It's my second buy and will be buying again. I have a mild diabetic neuropathy and occasionaly (particularly when blood sugars are very high) I can feel some pain in my toes. Taking ALA does help and diminishes the pain which I can actually feel few hours after taking it. I have no stomach problems after taking it whatsoever but I've heard of one person that got a horrible heartburn (took it on an empty stomach) so I guess that's something to consider when thinking of buying.
