When you use security keys, it's recommended that you have two. This makes a fine backup
For starters, have you seen the price of low profile/nano security keys? They're a lot more than this for a fido2 key. You'll need a Yubico 5 series to do fancy security stuff, and if you're wondering what that is, you aren't doing it and probably won't. Flip answer, but its the case! This is primarily to secure online accounts like google, social media and bank/investment firms.Fairly simple if you get each services instructions to add a key for two factor authentication, and go slowly. Most company's that use a key either use FIDO or FIDO2 U2F, this supports both. It won't do what a fancy Yubico key will do with regards to password manager integration and so forth, but at the stage of using a key you're already 99.9% of the way there. You can pay more, and other keys might not have the physical clicky button this has, that might result in the button breaking off, those other keys won't serve you any better than this one at less than half the price.Perfect backup key, and ideal for a computer or other device with a USB-A port, or another USB port type with an adapter cable. No NFC or bluetooth. Get that in your primary key. Small size only sticks out as much as a wireless keyboard/mouse usb adapter.Wouldn't use it in a laptop that goes in and out of a bag a lot, the little plastic button might not take a lot of abuse.Since I use a desktop and two smart tv's that each support a key to access key services, all with usb-a ports, this key meant I could spend a bit more on the Yubico Series 5 usbc/nfc key to use as a primary, with both coming out about the same as two Yubico Security Key series. All you need a backup for is to get into your accounts once and enter a replacement key, should one be lost or stolen. This will definitely do the job.Edit: as an aside, google at this time wants to put you on a 'mailing list' to use your phone and it's security chip as a key. I've been on the list for months, and I don't think they're actually processing people from it.But once you enable google's advanced protection with two keys, voila...you can add your phone as an additional key, giving you three...your two main keys and your phones key. The phone key also works via bluetooth, so any BT enabled device can use it, and no worries about how to plug the key in.Nice extra bit of redundancy on keys for your google account, for free. No need to do a bluetooth pair on the device and the phone either. Note that your phone can only be used for google services logins, not other web sites. And the iphone works as a security key as well, if you download googles Smart Lock app.

Great, inexpensive FIDO2 key
This is the cheapest FIDO2 security key I've seen available Prime via Amazon. It's build quality isn't top-notch (I had an older version, U2F/FIDO"1" fall apart on me), but it's plenty sufficient for what it is.Tested on Windows 10 and Ubuntu; yes it can do static password but the FIDO2 capabilities are why you'd buy this.Tested with SSH; works with ecdsa-sk but not ed25519-sk; so far the only FIDO2 keys I've seen that work with ed25519-sk are the Yubikey variants.Comes with a little keychain-lanyard thing. The packaging is small and easy to open but not minimal; much bigger than it needs to be.

Great value if you understand the Fido2 protocol
Most of the negative reviews seem to be because there is some misunderstanding as to what exactly the fido2 protocol is and where it is used. If you understand what this is and are looking for a cheap hardware 2fa key to use as your backup this one gets the job done

Works with Duo for Universities!
This was exactly what I needed for my university! It has a button at the end that glows green when active, so you can tell immediately if it's working or not. I seriously just plugged it in--no issues. Honestly, the hardest part was just getting the key out of the protective case it comes in, haha.I could totally understand how this product could feel cheep, especially if you have to remove it from computers all the time. It might be hard to get a good grip on it to remove it from a USB port, so it doesn't surprise me that it might break that way after a while. However, if it's a personal computer that you're using, you can just leave the key plugged in all the time. It's sticks out of a USB port by around half an inch, so I don't feel like it's gonna get banged up in the way a flashdrive would.Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase and would totally recommend it for anyone else trying to use Duo verification without downloading the app.
