A well designed, thorough and thought-provoking collection on the role of the car in the rapidly approaching future of transportation (autonomous, connected vehicles, etc.). The authors presented perspectives not often heard/represented in the transportation field. I highly recommend this book to fellow transportation planners (and others) looking to expand their understanding of design and policy while imagining a more equitable, sustainable and efficient transportation future.I thought the infographics and photographs were outstanding as well, adding flair and context to the range of topics discussed.

I worked in automotive industry and am very interested in this topic given recent development in autonomous car. I have to say it does offer some value but overall it is not organized - I am not complaining that this book does not even carry page number. It feels more like bits and pieces written by a group of different people at will but they are not connected and hardly come to the same major message. Some chapters are a little distracting without editing and polishing.

Insightful in many respects & equally engaging
I've been in the business of scenario planning and innovation for nearly 14 years now, focused exclusively on changes in vehicle tech and use since 2008. I cannot think of another book as rich in diverse insights & opinions about one of the central pillars in any great society going all the way back to ancient Rome, Maya and Egypt. Most insightful is that the Editor's choice of essentially crowd-sourcing the book is so reflective of our times. We tend to take moving from point A to point B for granted. But stop and consider the impact from the mass adoption of this revolutionary new tech- the car in the 1920's. Well, here we go again- so grab your seatbelt, strap in and get a peak into one of the most significant societal transformations already in progress. From architect, to the car buff, to owner's of repair shops, insurance execs, bankers, physicians, to countless other industries and professions impacted by how we move- you'll enjoy this ride!

Nice pictures. It's more about city planning than cars
Nice pictures. It's more about city planning than cars, but provides a good overview, and from many angles. The history section is informative.

A new take on "car culture"
A very contemporary take on transportation design (an area often left to engineers). Nice use of photography. If you are looking for a book on car design, this is not the book for you. Unless you want to think about the car and transportation as a broader cultural phenomenon.
