I was a little sceptical as I'd never used an air horn before. It seemed kind of puny and based on some of the reviews I didn't expect much but thought what do I have to lose by giving it a try. The main reason I wanted an air horn was to scare off coyotes that have started frequenting the wooded area I live next to. The woods are practically right off my door step and it seems as though they have decided to den down in there or at least has become a daily and night hunting ground. It's very stressful and a frightening sound when they go into a frenzy preparing for a hunt or when they make a kill. The minute I sound off the air horn they shut right down and actually bolt off. It does the job perfectly. I now carry it as personal protection as well.

I have a lot of Huskies and, when the mood takes them, they like to sing. You and I view it as howling. As I live in a sort of urban area, this is not something I want presented to my neighbors... they're pretty cool and have dogs themselves, but still. When they really get into it, even our non-Huskies have taken to joining in. It's hard to get them to stop. Dog people have told me, "Shake a coffee can full of rocks." That actually doesn't work very well but demonstrates that a noisy distraction does work. Though not noisy, water pistols work, but since the invention of the Super Soaker type just try to find a decent water pistol that doesn't leak like crazy. Banging pots and pans together definitely works, but that's not too practical for me and I suspect they're halfway about to decide I'm attempting to join in. Well, I would but I'm trying to be considerate for the neighbors' sake. I decided to try one of these miniature air horns (and it is pretty small). It didn't take long after it was delivered that I had the opportunity to test it. They stopped INSTANTLY. Had some very surprised looks... "WTF was that?!" Woo-hoo! My only criticism would be that the note of the blast is pitched rather high - but that's got to do with the acoustic physics of the size of the horn itself. It's likely just my personal preference, though. It certainly fulfills its purpose. If it had been a bit bigger and had a slightly lower blast note, it'd have been 5 Stars. I know bigger ones are available, of course, but the cure for my problem might encroach upon being more of a nuisance than the singing. As is, a solid Four Stars. Update: As in my review, this little gizmo works just fine. I found, however, that I went through the two cans of compressed air pretty quickly. When I went to replace them, I found that they were priced waaay over what I'd expected. Consequently, I wouldn't really recommend this signal horn. Yeah, it's like ink jet printers... the printer is one thing, but they really stick it to you on the ink refills. You're probably better off buying the cheapest party horn (essentially the same thing) you can find. I'm not going to downgrade the review due to this caveat, but those four stars are now on pretty shaky ground.

Just got it, attached the horn and tested it. Very glad I tested outside! Super loud which is exactly what we wanted and small enough to carry on our walks - next time we have a coyote encounter, this hopefully will scare it away. Our city's animal control explained we need to chase them away so they aren't used to being close to humans so thinking this should do the trick - it's VERY high pitched and sharp...and since it's usually very quiet when we've encountered the coyotes...I'm hoping this does the trick.

I've been using these for years on my bike. These are better than any bicycle horn on the market. One short blast will wake the dead. These are great for getting a drivers attention. They last a good long while.

I wanted a reliable, loud noise. Opened this up, screwed on the top (which seems designed to be reliable) and popped it off. OMG! Trust me, test this outside. I have an 1800 sq ft condo and I would not want to pop this off ever again inside. My kids laughed but it is LOUD. I’m very happy with this device and feel I can count on it in an emergency

these canisters are small, so i don't know really how much sound one is going to get out of them. i bought them based on other reviews but i'm having my doubts upon seeing them.

I love this little can!!! It shuts up my lazy neighbor's ghetto chihuahuas. Lol loud enough to wake my neighbors to shut up those so called dogs aka barking rats. Thanks I finally get a restful night and not just my selfish lazy neighbors
