The author writes from a unique perspective as a specialist in finding other hunters lost animals, unlike most of us, however; he is a gifted writer. (fyi this may be my wifes account but not her review)

Everything about this book is great. John explains everything thoroughly and in detail backed by years of experience hunting and tracking wounded deer. Explains why some shots are absolutely not ethical and how to think about where the bullet or arrow will go before you shoot. Great visuals and descriptions. Every hunter needs to read this so they can go out and shoot their deer ethically and with the least amount of suffering possible.

When I got it I thought for its size it is certainly over priced. After reading it I found it was full of valuable information gained from the authors vast experience trailing wounded deer and well worth the price.

Excellent book on shot placement. Very good explanation of high back shots. Archery shots are discussed. Some hunters like a really high tree stand, the book explains the down side of this.

If you're a deer hunter and you need to read this book. I read it at the beginning of each season and often browse thru it a few other times during the season.

Instead of listening to what grandpa says about tracking wounded animals, get some scientific data to back up your approach. The author has documented hundreds of tracking encounters and discusses the medical aspects of different wounds. Take his ideas with you to deer camp and discuss them around the fire, he puts a lot of the conventional wisdom on its head and it is hard to refute.

Very nice read. Some repetition but overall a very informational book. I know much more about shot placement and where not to shoot placement. This was the reason for the purchase.

Have bowhunted for 35 years and this is by far the best hunting aid out there. Should be required reading for all bowhunters. Have given several away as gifts and continue to re-read and consult my quite worn copy.
