It DID indeed have a lot of the little dehydrated pieces in it.
My dog adores this food! He eats it more than the regular Merrick puppy food... They're both good, but I wanted to give him a treat, so I bought Backcountry. The food looks pretty good and there ARE a lot of pieces of little dehydrated bits in the kibble. I am very happy with my purchase. My dog is a sweet bean angel from heaven...or at least...I hope he will grow into one. ;w; Thank you and enjoy your food!

Dog loves this food
Especially the frozen raw portion. Should have more in the bag though. Somewhat chenzy on the freeze dried raw food.

Small dog pieces
My 4 dogs love Merrick! The first time I ordered the pieces were small. I have 4 Champion Shih Tzus and need the smaller bites for them. When I ordered again, it was large size dog pieces and large freeze dried pieces that I received. The pieces are too big for my dogs mouths. I will order more if I can be reassured that this won't happen again.

Dog goes crazy for it!
I’ve given Merrick healthy grains to my dog for a long time and he always loved it, but switched to the back country raw about a year ago just for a little change up.Contrary to a lot of other reviews I’ve read, there’s always several chunks of the freeze dried in every bag and the kibble is clearly coated in the crushed up pieces of the freeze dried raw.My dog is a 8 year olds and he’s still got all the energy he had as a puppy. His vet checks are good and his coat is beautiful. He goes NUTTTTS when it’s meal time for this and licks his bowl for several minutes after it’s gone

Seems like good food but didn’t work for me
Food seems really good but it made my dog sick. I don’t know what specifically about it didn’t agree with my pup so I had to switch to a grain free no raw freeze dried food

The only food my dog will eat
We got our Saint Berdoodle about two years ago and from the very beginning he was extremely picky. This dog who is supposed to be a giant is not food motivated at all. We literally stopped giving him treats just so he would get hungry enough that he would eat food. We tried all the super expensive brands we tried putting hamburger meat in his food we tried putting beef broth scrambled eggs anything and everything that is OK for a dog we actually tried and he somehow managed to pick out the food or lick up the gravy and leave the actual dried food behind. I happened to just to see this food and figured let’s give it a try and he has been eating this food for a full year. He still doesn’t run to the bowl When we fill it, he truly is not food motivated however he actually eats this food. We purchased the wet food from the same brand and he devours it. We give him one can a day and he grazes on his dry food throughout the day but probably only eats about a scoop a day. We haven’t had any issues with quality control with the cans or with the dry food, the brand is absolutely amazing and we’re just grateful that our dog is eating and maintaining his weight

Favorite in the diet rotation
I believe in rotating our dog's food every few months for variety sake and balanced nutrition. It seems to keep them happy and excited about eating. I currently alternate between Wellness Core and Merrick Backcountry Raw. Both brands have an excellent reputation, so I feel good about the quality I am providing, and our dogs like both, but there appears to be a little more excitement when the Merrick bag opens. Maybe it is the raw nuggets, not sure, but they love it, so that is the main thing.I rated this 5 stars because, overall, it is an outstanding product and we have been very pleased. That doesn't mean there aren't a few things to be aware of before purchasing.First off, the raw nuggets are not dispersed well in the bag. You will find them grouped in areas, so it is best to stir the food up a little as you are scooping it out. It's easy and seems to ensure you get a few raw nuggets in most if not all feedings.Secondly, the food is expensive, and the largest bag is only 20lbs versus 24lbs to 30lbs of other brands. I am good with paying for quality, but if I had a wish, it would be nice to have a larger bag with better per-ounce savings. All in all, this is a great food that I would highly recommend to anyone.
