The Killing Floor Blues (Daniel Faust Book 5)

Daniel Faust rocks.
Another great read by Schaefer. Spoiler alert. This one starts with Daniel waking up on a bus headed to prison. A prison no one has ever escaped from.Daniel is having trouble remembering things. He knows its only been a day since he was arrested so what the hell is he doing headed for prison? He had no bail hearing and he certainly doesn't remember a trial.Once he gets a look at his paperwork he realizes someone has used a spell and it has in fact only been two days since he was arrested. Everyone is under that spell and thinks it been four months and there was a bail hearing and a trial.Daniel is in a maximum security prison out in the desert and has no way to contact his friends or Cait. He knows he's been framed for murder and he also knows he's got to get out of this place.Daniel meets his cell mate, Paul, a guy who tells him the ins and outs of the prison. He also tells him prisoners have been taken from their cells and disappeared to Hive B. Hive is the term that's used for the cell blocks. Hive B is on eternal lockdown and no one knows what goes on there as the kidnapped prisoners are never seen again. So begins another damned fine Faust read. This one has Daniel, Paul, white prisoners, deals, a cell phone, a Daniel finally contacting his friends and letting them know where he is, friends who will do their best to help him once he has convinced them there was no trial, Hive B that's not what any prisoner ever thought it would be, the thing behind Daniels frame and hopefully his death, the warden who's making millions, death, destruction, an escape which Faust instigates, a Faust who can't leave just yet, a showdown in Hive B and Daniel Faust doing his best to figure it out and stay alive.Five Stars.

Please write faster!!!
My problem with this author, is that there are not enough books in this series-I want more. I read the first 4 books in less than 48 hours, and now I already finished this one. I love the character of Faust and his Scooby gang of sidekicks. I just wish they were in the book more. I have a tendency with his books to skip to the parts with Caitlin it, read those first, then I go back and read the book from start to finish. I am hoping book 6 has more of Faust, and his friends from page 1. This series reminds me of The TV show 'Grim' or 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' where I care more about the characters and not so much the monsters of the week. Caitlin is such rich character, I wish the author would give us more interaction between her and Faust. How can a female demon character feel so human? There is a great chemistry between her Faust, she can kill him in seconds, he knows this and accepts her superiority, her lengthy list of lovers, her age, her demonic nature, and never tries to change her. Yet Faust never appears wimpy for loving her unconditionally. There is something so refreshing and modern about their love that I could just read a book about them without aIl the action. I am not sure if demonic noir is a literary genre yet-one could use that term for this series. Do you like strong female characters? You will love this series. He is writing a spin-off series about Harmony Black. If you like regular mysteries, you will enjoy this series. If you enjoy film noir, and hard boiled detective series, you will want to read these books. Someone should give him a medal for not having a love triangle in the series-which almost every e-book seems to have nowadays. Start with the first book, you will not be disappointed. Meanwhile if anyone knows a spell to put on the author to make him write faster, please use it. I would appreciate it.

Get to Know Daniel Faust
Hard to fault this series. I love dark modern fantasy, a little more grown up, and the good guys kill sometimes because they have to, and good and evil aren't so clear cut. He's tough, but not so tough that he can't get himself killed. He gets overwhelmed and over his head, which a lot of science fiction and fantasy authors get scared to do, especially after a certain point. They don't want to threaten the protagonist once we get to like them, as though the author is afraid of hurting my feelings. This is why I respect the heck out of Martin's approach: "oh, you love that character - well, I killed him. That's right, I just killed your favorite character. I don't feel guilty about it either!"I'm not going to tell you anything about this book, or series, since I don't do spoilers, but I always like a writer who can get you to love the character, then REALLY put him in danger, and keep him there for a nice long time. That's always a sign of a good book and series to me, and this one count. Real suspense, and a nice, engaging roller coaster of a book. Not too complicated, though, so it's a fun read. The love interest is a bit cheesy, but this is a common problem with Fantasy and Science Fiction - the love interest is always dealt with poorly. Sad. Oh well!

Amazing
another full packed and exciting read. Dan has grown so much and I love his loyalty to his friends and family. They all will do anything g for each other and have shown so time and again in each book in this series. I thoroughly enjoyed how this read was mostly based I a prison and how Dan coped with that. It was exciting and thrilling to read but at the same time made you nervous and wonder what will happen to dan. Some nail biting twists and blood and gore mixed in. An amazing read yet again. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Not one of his best
The story itself was strong but the ending was not. It felt like the writer ran out of steam and just stopped. Still an enjoyable read.

Magic.
I'm a fan of this series and it's main protagonist. It functions on a number of different level and invariably leaves me satisfied.
