great for all Madonna fans

I was dubious about buying this cd as id been very disappointed by previous releases of the girlie show. Previous versions have songs edited or removed and there was also interference. This on the other hand is excellent. If you own the official Girlie Show dvd, this is that same version. Madonna sounds brilliant and although its from her erotica days shes not as coarse or rude as she us these days. A lot of big hits are here as well as songs from erotica. Vogue, express yourself, fever and like a virgin are here, but, the standout songs are fantastic versions of la isla bonita, holiday and her very first song everybody. Madonna shows she can interact with an audience. The only down side to this cd is the cover but its the music that's the important part.

I was worried for the sound of the recording until the moment the CD 1 started to play.I had a nice surprise. The recording is 10/10. I am not a huge Madonna fan but I really liked this period of Madonna.It's a must to have for all Madonna fans around the world

The artwork maybe questionable and the odd choice of songs in the third act has always left me scratching my head. However, it is a shame that Madonna never decided to release the back catalogue of her tours offically as with this, like many of her other tours, the live reinterpretation of some of her best known songs are inspired and close to perfect. Express Yourself and Deeper & Deeper get a retro disco makeover which is pure bliss. There is a flavour of the middle east with Vogue and Justify My Love which is delicious. In This Life there is true emotion and haunting vocals as she sings about her friends who died from AIDS. Like A (W)irgin and Bye Bye Baby my have an odd but amusing cabaret styling but this is when Madonna has always been at her most entertaining, when she not taking herself to seriously. This album to my ears has the same audio avaliable on the dvd/VHS released many years ago. But I'm happy and look forwards to the rest of the unofficial release of her other tours as this full unedited concert proves why Madonna is one of the best show girlies of all time.

Diese Doppel-CD enthält einen Konzertmitschnitt von Madonnas "Girly Show", der im "Sydney Cricket Ground" in Australien am 19.11.1993 aufgenommen wurde. Soweit ich es verstanden habe, ist das komplette Konzert enthalten, und das kann bei der Spielzeit beider CDs (ca 113 Minuten) auch durchaus hinkommen. Aktuell war damals gerade ihr fünftes Studioalbum "Erotica" von Ende 1992, in dem sie sich musikalisch erstmals vom absoluten Kommerz wegbewegte und Neues wagte. Noch überwogen aber ihre großen kommerziellen Erfolge, und die bedient sie mit langen Laufzeitversionen ihrer Hits ("Holiday", 12:47, "La Isla Bonita", 7:26, "Rain", 9:57 oder "Deeper and deeper", 7:55) auch ausgiebig. Oft machte es ihr aber auch Spaß, Einschübe anderer Songs in diesen Versionen zu verwursten, die meistens nicht von ihr selbst stammen. "Like a Virgin" konnte sie zu dieser Zeit wahrscheinlich selbst schon nicht mehr hören, deshalb bringt sie diesen Song in einer völlig anderen (aber sehr guten) Version, mit einem Einschub von "Falling in Love again" (aus dem Marlene Dietrich-Film "Der Blaue Engel"). Diese Version wurde allerdings schon einmal auf der Bonus-CD des Bildbandes "The Girlie Show Tour" veröffentlicht. Auch in anderen Songs blitzen immer wieder ungewohnt instrumentierte Sequencen auf, z.B. übernehmen mehrmals Bongos den Rythmus. Dieses Konzert gilt als eines der gelungensten der 39 Shows dieser Tour. Madonna wußte allerdings auch, dass es aufgenommen und auch live übertragen wurde, hat sich also wahrscheinlich besondere Mühe gegeben. Wegen der Liveübertragung ist die Soundqualität auch excellent und ist keine Wald- und Wiesenaufnahme. Was mir an diesem Konzert gefällt ist, dass es nicht nur die Riesenhits von Madonna wiederkäut, sondern dass es ein Stück weit unberechenbar bleibt. Wo sonst gibt es Liveaufnahmen von eher unbekannteren Werken wie z.B. "I'm going Bananas" (aus dem Dick Tracy-Soundtrack), "The Beast within" oder "Everybody is a Star". Diese Mischung macht den Mitschnitt für Fans besonders interessant.
