Watch A Man Apart. You'll like this movie. Vin Diesel is at his best portraying a character and story you can believe in.
This is a great movie. I have this movie on DVD. My DVD's are all stored in tubs in a extra room in our house though. This is one movie that I had forgotten. I came across it doing some Web surfing. As soon as I did I went straight to Amazon knowing that if I was going to find it that I would there. I love buying these great movies such as this on Amazon. Then when I'm in bed and watching TV and want to watch a good movie when there's none on I just turn on my Amazon. I keep a lot of good movies in my Amazon library. Then I can watch them in HD without ever getting up out of bed. I'm also a Prime Member so I have a big selection of movies to watch for free as a Prime Member. Newer than the selection of Netflix which I'm also a member. A Man Apart is one of those movies you can watch over and over. A good story with drama, excitement.

It's a shoot em' up style flick with a great amount of action
This is a Vin Diesel classic. It's a shoot em' up style flick with a great amount of action. The plot, while not incredibly original, is still good enough to hold your attention. If you like movies like Man on Fire with Denzel Washington or Training Day, then A Man Apart is sure to be a solid choice for you. I've held back on giving it 5 stars only because the ending was a little weak (in my opinion). I wouldn't want that to dissuade anyone from giving this movie a shot though.

Has a Few Flaws but HEY Vin Diesel's In It!!!
O.K. I admit.....I watched this movie only because Vin Diesel was in it. Overall, I enjoyed the movie very much and felt it was one of his best movies yet to date. Unlike his past attempts, this movie allows Vin Diesel to expand his acting abilities and offers us a rare glimpse of his vulnerable/sensitive side which is especially s-e-x-y. I also loved the character of Hollywood Jack who is introduced in a humorous way in Chapter 13. The only too minor complaints I have with regards to the movie is that it can be overly violent at certain points (or maybe I'm just a sensitive viewer) and I would have liked to have seen the relationship between Sean & Stacy developed more. I just didn't feel that seeing them together for only 10-15 minutes of the movie was enough for me to feel the intense love and passion that he had for her.

Buy it if you can. It's that good.
Not only is this movie one of my favorite Vin Diesel movies, it is just hands down, one of my favorite movies. The acting is first rate and the action is fantastic. I also love the intwined complications of the various relationships in the movie. If you like action movies, good guy/bad guy movies, or just Vin Diesel this flick is for you.

More Mayhem and car crashes.
A more that average bad cop gone wild movie lots on killing and car chases that movies it far away from the area of reality. At one point he is shot again and again and then wakes up alive and well. So we need to suspense reality on the film as he going on hunt for a drug war lord who has been using any and every means to set up a new drug empire in Califonia. The rest is basic cop and drug dealers and lot of silly gangs and shoot outs. ,

Oh bother
To be honest I feel completely divided by this film. Vin Diesel is a good actor, and his raw grief and aggression are believable. However, the plot didn't seem to know where it was going. Things happened and you had no idea about the motivation behind them, if anything the ending made everything less clear. It wasn't exactly a bad movie, but it wasn't particularly good either. Despite the central act, the death of Vetter's wife, and then murder of the drug dealer's wife and child, I felt curiously detached about the characters.

Why is this man not doing more???
holy crap this is good! The plot isn't a new one: a good man working on the right side of the law loses his wife after she's shot to s*** in their home.....Man, grief stricken (obvs) hell bent on revenge....takes on the naughty wee buggers and all hell breaks loose. It might not be a new idea, what is these days anyhoo? but it's a brilliant movie which holds it's own easily amongst all the others out there. It's far superior to most of the revenge films I've seen and it confirms Vin Diesels acting ability. He is far more than a tortured widower in this and utterly convincing. The rest of the cast are amazing too. Watch it and be surprised.

WELL WORTH WATCHING
If this film was ever on general release I must have blinked. It was gritty, well acted with a superb sound track. The main character's transformation from contented married man to grief stricken and enraged cop was brilliant. Excellent mix of characters (particularly menacing were the cartel boss and Diablo). Any looseness of plot was explained in deleted scenes - the scene of the acquisition of the wagon should have been left in. Altogether 110 mins worth watching.Bye the way, the reviewer who claimed Diablo blew up his own wife and child obviously lost the plot.

RATTLING GOOD SEND OFF!
Enjoyed the take on DEA insights of drug trafficking. Not normally my cup of tea - but it did make me think more of the hazards of trafficking rather than drug-taking, which I am not into! OK for the genre if you like themes like this.
