The Crusaders were one of the pioneers of Jazz-Funk music in the seventies and have made a number of visits to Montreux over the years. This DVD focuses on their performance from 2003 when the band was touring in support of their album "Rural Renewal". Founder members Joe Sample and Wilton Felder were joined in the line-up by long-standing friend Ray Parker Jr. on guitar and by the inimitable Randy Crawford on vocals. They delivered a set that spanned their career from early days up to their latest album capped with a stunning nine minute plus performance of their classic "Street Life" and finished off with a fun rendition of Ray Parker Jr's "Ghostbusters".

not as good as Verona
No doubts Jamiroquai is one of the greatest shows to see, and fun to hear. that jazzy, funky music has an amazing groove.I own the Live in Verona on DVD, but I was expecting for a blu-ray concert to come out, so i got this one.The sound is very good, but from the minute i started waching it, i felt there was something missing. It may be the mood of the audience, jay not at his best, maybe the rain was missing. this one is missing the vibe you could feel watching the Verona concert. Kudos for the set list, and the groove of the bass is great. i'm still waiting for a live performance of the song "Just another story".It is an excelent concert, you must have it if you like this guys, but, after watching this one, you will go back to Verona..

AWESOME
I RECENTLY PURCHASED TWO OF THIS DVD FOR CHRISTMAS. LAST SATURDAY, I GOT THE URGE AND PLAYED IT. I WAS HOPING TO HOLD OUT UNTIL CHRISTMAS. ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS SET IS OFF THE HOOK BIG TIME. I THOUGHT I WAS BACK AT MORGAN STATE UNIV. CIRCA 1974. THE SOUND AND VISUAL QUALITY ISSUPREME. THE NEW CRUSADERS ARE SMOKING. WILTON FELDER ALONE MADE MY SAT.EVENING. READY FREDDY WASHINGTON IS ALWAYS STEADY AND FUNKY. JOE SAMPLE.(ENOUGH SAID) EVERYTHING WAS TIGHT AND FUNKY AND WHEN MISS CRAWFORDHIT THE STAGE,ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE CONCERT IN MONTREAUX WAS THE UNDERRATED AND MASTERFUL RAY PARKER JR. THAT'S RIGHT MR.GHOSTBUSTER AND RAYDIO LEADER WAS FANTASTIC. A MUST HAVE FOR ALL MUSIC LOVERS. I WAS TELLING A FRIEND THAT CASINO LIGHTS WAS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE DVD; IT NOW HAS SOME SERIOUS COMPETITION.

Music lovers please
Now I was never really a fan of Jamiroquai from listening to their singles. Didn't dislike them but....ah well just a bit less than special, you know what I mean. Then there's that JK geezer, I mean come on, Ferraris, choppers and laddishness! I ordered the BluRay 'cos I'm an open minded sort of chap and, after all, they were at Montreux. Well well well, what a pleasant surprise. Imaginative, expressive, happy, dynamic, skillful music beautifully executed and produced. The disc is worth it for the girly chorus alone! Sure you have to get past JK prancing around like a nonce in his pseudo Sitting Bull hat, but just focus on his delivery - masterful. All in all a very fine performance from a bunch of gifted musicians. One for any music lovers' collection

I would buy this again...
I was excited to see that there was a Blu-Ray version of this Jamiroquai concert. Other reviews had mentioned sound quality and I was almost deterred by their ratings, however I found the sound quality to be quite good for a concert. I think they were expecting the sound quality to be that of a normal produced audio recording. I am extremely pleased by my purchase and I'm glad to have this concert in my music library. It makes me hope that Jamiroquai will do more live performances, and if I'm not able to attend, they will document the footage with the same clarity as this concert. I would recommend this disc to anyone.

Good performance, like the set list although I was surprised Virtual Insanity was not included. My biggest gripe is that the bass guitar is over powered by the lead guitar in the mix. It sounds like the lead guitar player did the final mix for the Blu ray disc. Falls short of the production quality of the Live In Verona DVD, which I wish was available on Blu Ray. Also, the band does go a little over board on extending the vamps on most of the songs.

You'll enjoy this concert!
This is a must hear concert for Crusaders fans. Just sit back and enjoy the music. Turn the volume up! I thoroughly enjoyed this dvd and like "being there" experience. The sound was excellent, despite the audio not actually being in 5.1 surround. I couldn't get my system after alot of tweaking and adjusting to send any audio to the center channel. However, I didn't notice this until I actually went over to the center channel. If you can set your receiver to mix in "DPL IIx Music" mode the sound will be just fine. The mix is still very clean and crisp, Randy Crawford still sounds great. The whole band was "tight". The price was best at Amazon too.

Reasonably enjoyable but a fairly 'eclectic' set list means that causal fans will probably be disappointed. No 'Virtual Insanity' is actual insanity. Also the sound quality I got through my system wasn't great.

Excellent
Definitely one of the best, if not THE best DVD/Blue Rays of Simply Red. Sound and PQ is spot on, and Mick and the band are in fine form. If your a Red fan BUY this you will not be disappointed.
