Great book about the ins and outs of cosplays for newbies and experienced cosplayers alike!
This is such a great book! There are several cosplay books on the market but most of them focus on one particular skill-set. This book covers all the bases from how to choose your cosplay, what to expect as cosplay conventions, how to get started on social media and a great overview on how to start sewing your own cosplays! A perfect book for people looking to get into cosplaying as well as those with some experience under their belt. And a bonus pattern in the back of the book to make your own bum bag! Highly recommend!

Inspiring book with a nice focus on sewing
This is a wonderful book for cosplayers! Especially ones that are just starting out and want to learn some basics. Amanda focuses a lot on the sewing aspects of cosplay, which I greatly appreciate. She explains things thoroughly and intentionally. Even though I've cosplayed quite a bit in the past, I am not much of a sewist. So her book will greatly help me when it comes to tackling my next cosplay! Also, the photos are so lovely and wonderful to look at. This is a very inspiring book!

Great source of inspiration & expertise!
Amanda Haas is the real deal when it comes to building cosplays, and has kindly amassed her knowledge into “Creative Cosplays.”Whether she is making a replica of a film costume that is spot-on down to the last detail, putting in the research to create a historically accurate version of a cartoon character (her Anastasia gown is AMAZING,) or gender-bending or otherwise adapting a character to a certain theme (fashionista Baby Yoda, anyone?) “Creative Cosplay” will inspire you as well as give you helpful tips on creating your own cosplays.Amanda is a funny, body-positive, and extremely talented force of nature in the Cosplay community and I highly recommend her book!

A great resource for any sewing or costume designer
This book is a good resource for anyone that creates costumes! I like how well it is organized, and the author has made it easy to understand why at kinds of fabrics work with what kinds of uses. I am very happy to have this in my reference library!

A really fun read where you learn something new along the way. <3
Loved it. The formatting was really clean and fun. <3 Great overview for beginners (and veterans) from a very knowledgable cosplayer. Also, it hit on the ins-and-outs of navifating cosplay and social media, which I don't think any source has done previously.

Fantastic and beautiful book
I'm experienced at sewing and still really enjoyed this book. While much of it is dedicated to beginning sewing, there are great chapters on wigs, what to expect at a con, how to travel with costumes, and a really interesting interview with a cosplay photographer. On top of that it's filled with beautiful photographs of the author and other cosplayers in costume. The writing style is personable and accessible.

Way beyond basic? No, I don't think so. It's all incredibly basic information
This book was sold to me by the "Way beyond basics" tagline. Everything in this book is basic information, available for free on the internet, I checked... How to search for images on the internet, how to use you tube (as a consumer, not creator of content!), basic sewing machine anatomy, what embroidery is, how sewing patterns work, how to shop, suggested uses for different fabrics, what to expect at conventions. No in depth information contained anywhere on any aspect of cosplay - the only directions in here to make a real tangiable "thing" are directions on how to make a boxy bum bag to wear to conventions. Seriously! I was expecting insider information because this promised to be "way beyond basic". Truthfully, this book would benefit being rebranded as a book for tweens/young teens just starting out in cosplay rather than a book that promises in depth information. For that I expect construction information, pictures detailing the insides of cosplay builds, how to add light effects and cooling fans, etc. I read this in under an hour, it literally is filled with fluff you can find for free on the web & lots of glossy photographs of the author & other cosplayers (that's not a bad thing, they're gorgeous but there a LOT of them!) - Returned for a refund, avoid unless you're buying for kids...
