It's great!
We love the star. It looks great on the tree when it's lit up. It's all clear plastic so close up when it's not lit it's not quite as attractive as some stars. But looking at it while sitting on my couch 8 feet away it looks quite nice even when it isn't lit.We have the 4½ foot tree. I was worried this star might be a little too large for my size tree, but it isn't. It looks perfect, but it would also be suitable for a taller tree.I'll address some of the complaints or issues I read in other reviews. As anyone should realize, this star is specifically for a National Tree Co Christmas tree that has the dual color lights. That info is noted in the description of the item. The star I received does have a male end as needed to connect to the female end on the tree. Some indicated their star has the same end as the open one on the tree so it wouldn't fit together. Mine fits together perfectly. The lights on the star do work in conjunction with the tree lights. So no matter how you have the tree lit (color, white, color blinking, etc) the star does the same thing. I've read that some previous stars of this model had a glitch and would only light up as white. That problem seems to be resolved. The ugly tube that at least one review mentions attaches to the tree with 1or 2 included zip ties. It's a green plastic hollow tube that attaches to the center part of the tree (the "trunk") and the top of it should be beneath the top of the tree. It doesn't and isn't supposed to stick up above the tree and look ridiculous as one review mentions. Then there's a white plastic thing that attaches to that tube and the star inserts into the white plastic thing. It seems unnecessary to design it that way. I would think they could just make one end of the green tube so that the star could sit right inside of it. But they must've designed it that way for a reason so there you go. Although, maybe the green hollow tube is an add-on to the original design to give the star more stability. It is possible to skip the green tube part and just stick the white plastic thing to the branch that sticks straight up at the top of the tree. But it isn't very secure that way and can tilt or even fall off easily. It looks better attaching it to the tube vs the tree directly because you can position the white thing to also be below the top of the tree so it looks like the star is the only thing at the top vs seeing the white thing at the top of the tree. You can see the green tube & the white plastic attachment from the side or back of the tree. But if your tree is in a corner that shouldn't be a problem. Mine is against the wall, not in a corner. I positioned an ornament so it obscures the white plastic doo-dad. The green tube blends in and is more hidden. At night when the lights are on it doesn't matter cuz you don't notice the plastic things at all. It's just during the day depending on the position of your tree that it might be an issue.I was considering using a different (non-National Tree Co) star and just attaching the star to an extension cord by itself. But I'm glad I bought this star to attach to the lights already strung on the tree. I didn't think I would like it with the colored lights. In the past I've always had solid multi-color lights for the tree and solid white lights for the star. I thought that's what I still wanted but decided to give this star a try. And I was surprised that I actually do like the star lighting up the same as the tree. I would be ok if it didn't but I do like it this way.I highly recommend this star if you have the kind of tree it's meant for and if you don't mind the star lights lit in conjunction with the tree lights. I did read a couple reviews that said it only lasted one or two seasons. It should last longer than that, but it's so inexpensive and it's really just a hunk of plastic. You get what you paid for. If I have to replace it in a year or 2 I'll be ok with that, although I do hope it lasts a lot longer!

Quality product and easy to install.
Lovely star with a slight twinkle when lit. Easy to install. Needed to contact National Tree for an adapter that would fit my National Tree tree. Customer service responded quickly to my email and received the adapter and it worked beautifully. The topper has a plastic tube you zip tie to the main stem of the tree and it sets solidly at the top. Previously purchased another star from another company and had to rig it to the tree with all sorts of wiring. A mess and cost 3x what I paid for the NTC topper. Wish I had purchased from Amazon first rather than trying to help out the small mom and pop store. Don’t mind the cost, but it was poorly engineered.

Good for one year if you’re lucky!
While most of these bad reviews are based on people not knowing what they are buying, mine is based on actual use. I purchased and returned the first one because it was broken and missing a piece. Then, the replacement second star came and it worked perfectly with my tree. Unfortunately, the second topper broke during first year of use. One of the little plastic tabs that hold the star into the post connector broke off while taking it carefully off the top of the tree post that’s provided. It was a nice star that changed colors at the same time as my National Tree brand Christmas tree I bought the same year. There is no way to fix this topper because of where it broke and its cheep plastic construction. Therefore, I either have to buy the same one again and hope that it too doesn’t break or I have to use an extra extension cord to run electricity to ANY other brand of tree topper I buy.

Works as advertised
I felt compelled to write a review after reading all of the complaints. There is one very important thing any purchaser needs to know -- it connects to a National Tree. There is a specific connection at the top of the tree that allows you to plug this topper in. It does not run on batteries and it does not have a long cord to plug in to a standard outlet. So if you don't have a National Tree with this connection, DON'T BUY IT!Now, for those of us who DO have such a tree, the star topper works exactly as described. The light colors change in accordance with how the tree lights are configured, and there is a "flickering" effect within the star as well. It was easy to install and looks great. It is plastic, so if you're looking for something "luxurious" this probably isn't for you. But it works, and works well. Merry Christmas!

I was wary of the poor reviews, but I'm glad I took the chance
I was wary of the poor reviews, but I'm glad I took the chance. The bottom line is that if you have a compatible National Tree, you should get this star. It integrates really well and the lights sync with the tree. If you don't have a National Tree, then you will probably be this product's next poor review since the connector is custom to the compatible trees. Other comments I saw was that the shown color isn't correct. This is true. The star is clear. The reason it looks gold in the picture is because the internal lights were on. If you can get past these things, then your expectations will be in line. The reason I only gave 4 stars is because the plastic does feel a bit cheap, so there could be improvement. All in all though, I'm glad I got it.

Meh.
Had higher expectations based on photos. Inexpensive plastic and very visible wiring, light sockets, etc. Single integrated (proprietary) seems nice and convenient. Unfortunately my didn’t light up. Not sure if it’s the star wiring or the tree wiring. Everything else works fine. So? The lack of conventional connectors makes testing impossible.

🎄Great tree topper for National Tree Company Christmas trees 🎄
I ordered this National Tree Company Pre-lit Artificial Christmas Tree Topper to go with the National Tree Company Christmas tree we recently purchased. I like it. It looks great on the tree top, making the tree appear taller, plus it changes color/flashing mode in unison with the lights on the tree. Of course, I’ll have to see how long the lights last. This tree topper is made in China.
