The wind kept blowing the nest apart before they could build it so I ordered this and used two screws to fasten it to the top of the beam. Within a week the doves were back. They added their own twigs in the nest, and they are now nesting! Today two more doves flew to their nest and we’re perching there so we put the second nest up on the other end of the patio so hopefully we’ll have two families! Since the cuts are the same size and curve he was able to pimp out his nest easily. My only complaint would be that I wish the base was stable. Birds like to perch on the lip of the nest and tip it over. Sticks would only fall down off the narrow patio beam. I saw someone's post on how they taped this nest to their patio beam due to the same problem. I used HEAVY DUTY Velcro to attach a piece of wood to the patio. I used a metal tie wrap weaved into 2 spots of the nest and then attached the nest around the beam. I threw in a few sticks from the ground into the nest. To give them a hint...The next day......mama bird settled into the nest!
