    Works Perfectly

*by B***S on Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2023*

This lens cap works perfectly as designed. No sharp edges, no stray plastic mold flashing as one reviewer claimed was on his copy, good spring tension - not too much and not too little, stays in place when on the lens, seems to be as well built as the OEM Nikon lens cap that came with my Coolpix P950, but of course, this one has the cap keeper feature where the OEM cap did not. The string is a nice length for the P950, even when I have it set to Zoom to 50 mm equivalent at startup, but I can see that for some people wanting the string style that the string might be a bit short for long lenses (say 150-600 zooms) on APC or full frame cameras. Then again, the elastic style works perfectly on such lenses (and that is what I use on my long focal length zoom for my Sony a6600). Not much more to say about the lens cap, but there is a lot more to say about other reviews, especially the negative ones.First, the next reviewer to complain that the string won't stay on the lens barrel should have their review privileges revoked! If you want a cap keeper style lens cap that attaches to the lens barrel, then buy one that has an elastic band on the far end. That style comprises the vast majority of stick-on style cap keepers and lens caps with built-in cap keepers like this one. Indeed, I had to look long and hard for a cap keeper with a string on the far end like this one has. This style of cap keeper is made to attach to a D-ring or similar fitting on the camera body. If you didn't look at the picture and purchased the wrong style, suck it up and buy the item you really need, but don't leave a negative review for this product which functions exactly as intended.Second, for the people who complain about the string not being pre-installed on the lens cap, umm ... I'll keep it polite. Actually, I think mine came with the string pre-installed, but it's been almost a month now. Anyway, if I had to thread the string on the cap end, it was such a non-event that I don't even remember doing so. If you are a fumble-fingered male (like me) and you can't manage this simple task, then ask your spouse or your kid or someone who sews to do it for you, but don't take stars off a $7 item because you are a klutz. This is a great cap keeper designed to attach to the camera body (not the lens barrel). If that's what you need, stop reading reviews and buy this one.

A comparison of three different inexpensive 58mm lens caps

*by O***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2010*

I purchased three different inexpensive 58mm caps from Amazon at the same time: (1) this cap, (2) the Zeikos ZE-LC58 58mm Plastic Snap On Lens Cap (Black), and (3) the 58mm Snap-On Universal Lens Cap. All arrived relatively quickly, but this took a few more days than the other two.Note that the picture shown with this listing is slightly misleading. The tether with this cap is not connected to an outside loop, at least not in the copy sent me. Instead it connects through holes in the cap as in the slightly less expensive "58mm Snap-on Universal Lens Cap" mentioned here. This makes it more difficult to connect, see below. This lens cap, although a little thicker than a flexible press-on, works well with my Olympus 58mm filter-size lenses. It has a larger gripping surface than the default Olympus caps provided with their lenses, and so stays in place. The clamping mechanism has more travel than the Olympus caps and so is slightly easier to install and remove. The cap and its clamp appear well constructed and should be long lasting. This and the, "58mm Snap-on Universal Lens Cap" by Generic which, at the time of this review, was somewhat less expensive, have similar functionality and both include a tether. However, the clamping mechanism on the "Universal Cap" is slightly harder to squeeze than on the cap reviewed here. Two minor issues: (1) it is somewhat difficult to install the tether, as others have also noted, and which unfortunately does not come installed as it does on the "Universal Cap" (2) as the tether is made of string, it can occasionally catch under the clamping mechanism if its not free to hang.I would rate this cap equal in ease of use to the Zeikos cap. That cap is slightly less expensive, at the time of this review with Amazon Prime shipping, but does not include a tether. If you don't need a tether, the Zeikos cap is a good choice, but if you do this Fotodiox cap is highly recommended.Bottom Line: Nice lens cap, I would definitely buy again if needed. This cap has sturdy grip and long enough tether to work with 58mm filter-size telephotos. Just remember that this cap stays with the camera not with the lens. Thus, it's advisable to leave an extra 58mm cap in your camera bag for those times you remove a 58mm filter-size lens for one with a different filter-size thread.

Essential Accessory for the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000

*by M***N on Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2018*

Got this to replace the UNtethered 62 mm lens cap included with my recently acquired Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 camera. Being tethered is a huge convenience as you don't have to worry about storing the cap when you remove it to use the camera. It also eliminates the possibility of misplacing the cap. Shipping the FZ1000 with an untethered cap is, in my opinion, a mistake on Panasonic's part, especially given the price of the camera. So I'll make this brief:What I like about it:1. The tether is secured permanently through a hole on the circumference of the cap, and not just attached via double-sided adhesive tape to the center (as is the case with most other aftermarket lens caps), making it almost impossible for the tether to separate from the cap.2. The tether is long enough that it won't snag if I accidentally extend the lens all the way without removing the cap.3. The inner pinch mechanism allows me to easily remove and remount the cap with the lens hood in place. What I didn't like about it.1. The plastic parts had a fair amount of molding flash along the edges, which gave the impression that the cap was cheaply made. A few minutes with an X-Acto knife and jeweler's file got rid of the flashing and made the cap look like a $20 accessory (instead of the $5 I paid for it).I also slipped a length of heat-shrink electrical insulation tubing over much of the tether to keep its two strands bundled together, as it looks neater that way and is less likely to snag on something while moving the camera around.
