Heart Breaker
This is a very poignant and emotional story of WW 2 as seen through the eyes of a young Jewish girl. Through her eyes we witnessed all of the atrocities of the war and see how her strength and determination to survive keeps her moving on. A cruel twist of fate changes her life not once but twice but through it all she remembers who she is. Congrats to Armando Lucas Correa on another wonderful story making the reader never forget how devastating that time in history was.

Powerful
This is a very well written story about a WW2 Jewish family and what they went through. This was probably a pretty true account of what Jewish families had to go through to save their children. Very moving!

Very interesting
Well written book. Interesting story from WWII. Intertwines life in Nazi Germany before the outbreak of the war with life in occupied France during the war. Also good insight into lives of Jews trying to relocate to other countries in Europe, Cuba, and the US

The author takes you with him throughout the entire occupation of the Natzis.
A terrifying tale of two women and their daughters during World War II. The author made you feel the horror and the unjustness of the war.

Anticlimactic
I’m so sad about this book. I wanted to love it and I’d been looking forward to reading it for quite a while. I know that reviewing WW2/Holocaust books can be tricky, especially when the review isn’t completely positive. The premise for this book held so much potential. The characters also had great range of emotions and I easily sympathized with them. However, the main thing that didn’t work, and I hope no one misinterprets what I’m saying, is that everyone was so melodramatic. Some books don’t convey the horrors of war or of the Holocaust and I try to call them out on it. But this book almost had a parallel, yet still opposite effect. It wasn’t like reading a history book, it was like watching a soap opera version of WW2/Holocaust stories. I tried to see the emotions underneath everything, but if the writing had its nose up in the air any higher, it would have drowned when it rained. I sincerely doubt that those who were arrested by the Nazis spent so much time poetically identifying their feelings. It all just felt so over the top, in a not good way at all. Plus, I felt like a whole half of the story wasn’t being told. I wanted to hear about Viera’s life in Cuba. Everyone else got to be so emotional, why didn’t she? I wanted so badly to love this story and the characters, it just all fell flat. However, I will say that it did hold my attention, and for such lofty writing, it was very easy to read. Overall, this is not my favorite WW2/Holocaust literature, but I don’t want to write it off completely. It was by no means a bad book, it just isn’t for me.

Excellent read if you are not formular with Southern France during WWII
It was a great story and I was expecting a different outcome. I had a hard time putting this book down since I like books forms this era.

Captivating
From the first page I became engrossed in the story. With strong characters and heart-wretching perils, each page had me sick at heart or rooting for the family. The plot is well written and the main characters are worthy of our prayers. And there is an interesting plot twist at the end.

This was a great read. It is based on historical facts but the characters are very real and appealing. The story line is interesting. I could not put it down

My review
I enjoyed this book as it gave me an insight into the terrible conditions the women and children endured while the world was at war. May we never forget the huge sacrifice and inhumanity to others.
