This one is much quieter. I just put the tape in, close the hood, it rewinds with minimal noise and then pops open when done. My previous one would sometimes make lots of racket or I would have to hold the lid more firmly closed to make it work. My "car" rewinder is not what I would have chosen style-wise, but it works really well and helps to keep my VCR lasting longer.
