It Was good. Nice twist at the end I didn't see coming
Maybe even 3 ½ stars. I seem to be reading a lot of books lately where people have lost their memory and there was a murder LOLGrace was in a car accident where she had a brain injury and lost her memory on the same day that her boyfriend Michael was murdered. There was a few things going on in this book that really added nothing to the story. Detective Bishop’s mother in-law dying of cancer, Detective Hackett’s family drama. Didn’t really see the point of having that in the book.Grace’s sister Lisa brings her back to the home they grew up in to help her recover (their parents died a few years ago). As Grace is trying to remember, the detectives are working their leads. Detective Bishop is bent to proving that Grace is guilty even though there may be evidence that points to someone else. Detective Hackett is bent on proving Grace is innocent even though some evidence may point to her. As Grace starts to remember bits and pieces of her life, more questions arise (Was Grace going to break up with Michael, or were they really engaged? What happened to Grace's parents? Why do certain places in the house and around their property scare Grace?). I have to say I really did not like Detective Bishop. He was so adamant that he was going to find Grace guilty no matter what. And Grace’s sister Lisa and her friends, whenever Grace asked them questions they seemed to give half vague answers. I was getting so frustrated for Grace. I mean geesh people, help the woman out here. The one part of this book that was creepy was the relationship between Grace and her boyfriend Michael. See Michael is 10 years older than Grace. Now that she is an adult (20 years old) that is not so bad, but they have been friends since she was a kid and boyfriend/girlfriend since she was a teenage and he was in his 20’s. a 15 year old going out with a 25 year old, Hello!!!There were lots of twists and turns that the detectives turned up during their investigation. I did guess a couple of minor mysteries that were going on, but the main one of who killed Michael I so did not get. Thought I had it until the reveal at the end. Some parts of the book seemed to drag, but for the most part is was good. I enjoyed trying to piece together Grace’s memories as she was learning bits and pieces of them.

New to me
Diskin is a new author to me and I loved the way the story was told. I was always on my toes trying to guess what happened or was going to happen. Sometimes, when listening to audio of a book, it can be hard to tell when there is a timeline switch but it was done so well in this book, there was no issue depicting where on the timeline the story was taking place. I can't wait to read more by this author in the future!

Is it Possible to Rate this Six Stars?
Let's start out by me saying I write for a living. You've got to work hard to impress me. Very hard.I don't write mystery or romance novels. I'm a syndicated newspaper columnist that produces a home improvement column.Even though I love the smell of fresh sawdust and hot flux, I enjoy reading mysteries.Fencing must be an interest of E.C. Diskin because as I was reading the last few pages of Broken Grace I had a huge grin on my face and said out loud, "Touche' ".Yes, E.C. got me. She threw me the biggest curve ball ever and I swung for it. The ending to this book was the absolute best I've ever come across in the many years I've read mystery books.I'm not going to bore you with the plot, but I loved how it reminded me of stripping an ear of corn of its leaves. Each time I swiped a page to the left on my Kindle, I was able to see more and more clearly, or I thought I could, the real Grace.I guarantee you you'll love this book. If you're one that would give it one or two stars, then I'm pretty much sure you're one of the people that would not be satisfied if I drove 1,000 miles to your house and put up crown molding in your family room for free. You'd find fault with something.Don't you just hate reading those reviews that nit pick a great book to death? But I digress.Go ahead. Buy this book. If you don't give it FIVE stars - just for the ending alone - then I want you to get in contact with me and I'll give you something that will make you happy. You should be able to easily figure out who I am and how to get in touch with me.If you love this work of art as much as I did, then I'd love to hear from you as well.Kudos to you E.C. Diskin. Well done.....

Great book! I read/listened to in one day!
It’s a whodunnit kind of book about a twenty-year old girl who has a car accident and has total amnesia. She has to piece things together about her accident, her family, her town- HER WHOLE LIFE. These pieces seem to fit nicely and then there are twists… but it makes a great read that I couldn’t put down! (I rarely read adult fiction in one sitting. So that tells you something about it’s quality and readability!)

I would love to read more thrillers like this
Broken Grace opens with the main character, Grace, racing away from something that has her terrified. She views another car behind her in her rear view mirror just before losing control on an icy road and crashing. She wakes up in the hospital with no memory of her past. She is soon informed that her boyfriend was killed the morning of her crash, and detectives are working to find out who is behind the murder.I would love to read more thrillers like this. Grace is a likable character and you really feel for her as she tries to piece her memories back together as she encounters people from her past. The detectives investigating the case are cliches (but it seems like that is always the case), but the cast of characters overall are well developed and believable. The action moves along at a steady pace. This is not an edge of your seat thriller, but the story stays on task at all times so I never lost interest in the story at all. The author did a good job of creating characters with just enough reason to want Grace's boyfriend dead to keep the reader guessing all the way through the story (but I'm not good at guessing "whodunit", anyway). Just as I thought the story was wrapping itself up, the twists came that I didn't expect. The ending took a 3.5 star book and made it 4 stars! Excellent story!

Recommended- A Worthy Murder Mystery
A flowing and well written novel; great use of language. The author includes a few good twists that kept me guessing. I dropped one star as I thought the lead up to the ending went on too much and the ending itself was a little unsatisfactory.Grace has been involved in a horrific road accident and as a result has completely lost her memory. Her long standing boyfriend has been murdered. Grace moves in with her sister, Lisa, after being released from hospital. She’s on high dose pain killers and other prescription drugs. These render her tired and unable to function.Bishop and Hackett are the police officers investigating the murder and Grace becomes a prime suspect. As the storyline progresses, Grace begins to remember certain facts both about her past and about the events before the accident. This is definitely worth a read.

Predictable
If you like your thrillers to be twisty or your mysteries to be puzzling, this is not the book for you. You will be able to guess the entire plot within the first chapter. All the characters are stereotypes, which adds to the bland predictability.

Unique
A different kind of thriller in its revelations creeping up unexpectedly. The characters are realistic with an extra layer added.
