Truth - Prayer - Grace
Churches are pretty big these days and sometimes it's difficult to make a connection with other Christians. We have to really make an effort to find a small group or Bible study in order to meet others. It's even more difficult when you're struggling with something difficult. The Bible teaches Christians that we need this connection and I know for me, that's a BIG step. I am a private person so it really takes a lot to get me to share what I'm feeling with others, especially if I don't know them very well and not sure how they're going to react. In Breaking Pride, the author Heather Bixler addresses some of the very same issues that many Christians struggle with, often in silence out of shame, embarrassment or refusal to see the truth about themselves. We often close ourselves off from others out of anger, fear or because we are hurt. Or we may feel that what we have to say isn't important. But when we do this, we make it very difficult to walk in the Spirit of Christ.Heather shares her own feelings, fears and hurts and provides the scripture to back it up. She reminds us that in order to break our pride, we need to let go of the control that consumes us and the desire to portray a certain image to everyone around us. As we do this, we'll begin to form deep and true relationships with friends, family and most importantly, with God. It's not our sin that keeps us from Him, but our pride. This is an uplifting book written with a very sweet and peaceful tone. While reading this book, I began to feel a sense of peace knowing that there are so many other people out there, all feeling the same way but afraid to share it.How do we break pride? By Truth, Prayer and Grace.

Everybody Needs to Break Down Pride
Breaking Pride is a compact, uncomplicated book. It is highly readable, written in a conversational style. To read it is like visiting with a trusted mentor in the faith. It won't take long to read it all the way through, and you should do that as a start. After that, you should read through each chapter devotionally. You could read and pray through one chapter each weekday for two weeks. It would be a good way to internalize the principles and start using the guidance for dealing with pride. Each of the ten short chapters addresses an individual facet of our battle with pride. We think we know all about pride when we quote the proverb, "Pride goes before a fall." Sadly that is only a glimpse of the destructive power of pride. It is easy to forget that Satan uses pride to draw us away from a life of service to others in order to focus on self. Pride builds walls between us and other people and between us and God. There are natural reasons for us to lean on pride as protection and defense. As you read this book, you will learn both the issues underlying the problem and biblical principles that will help you mature in humility and service. The verses at the head of each chapter sum up each principle in the process of breaking your pride without breaking you.Breaking Pride is a valuable book for anyone who is serious about living faithfully Christ's call to love others as we love ourselves.

PRIDE HUMILIATED
For many times the Holy Spirit has been surfacing the issue of pride in my life. But I did not want to believe that a God-crazy Christian like me could live with pride. Like many Christians I did not want to be associated with pride because i detest it and I know how much God detests it. In my denial still i sought to learn more about it. I wanted to know how I can detect the workings of pride in my own life. Then I came across Heather Bixler's Breaking Pride-Tearing Down Walls, Walking in His Grace. Here, Heather humbles pride by taking its roots out of the soil. In a non-condemning and non-judgemental way Heather reveals the many ways pride manifests in a Christian. Although pride is an embarrassing subject this book reminds me of what a gentle and kind teacher Jesus is.In this book you will learn to be unashamedly honest with your weaknesses and depend on God's grace to conquer pride. This book will "set you free" from hiding pride by showing you how to patiently allow God to deliver you from pride. If you ever suspected that you could be functioning out of pride, this book is for you. If you want to understand the mechanics of pride, this book is for you. If you want to find your way out of pride, get this book. In a nutshell, I believe that every Christian needs to read this book.

Great read!
This was a great read and didn't take long to get through it. It gave me a lot to think about and I have a lot to work on! The only negative is that there were several typos throughout the book. The content was very helpful though.

Not What I Expected
This book did not turn out to be what I expected or what I needed. It was too broad and vague and didn’t deal in many specifics or give suggestions on how to break pride. It worked more on convincing readers of the need to break pride, which, in choosing to read the book, we have already indicated we recognize. It was very repetitive, saying the same thing over and over multiple times. In addition, Bixler's main example of pride was in feeling superior to others. That's never been my form of pride. Mine in more in the area of accomplishments and recognition. She had a few statements that I’m not even sure I believe. For example, she says that wanting “to be more filled with the Holy Spirit is actually pride,” which is a sin. Bixler also makes contradictory statements. At one place she says that sin keeps us from building a relationship with God, then later she writes it is “pride that keeps us from forming and building a relationship with God, not sin.” At least the book was short and didn't waste too much time, and it wasn’t a bad read.

Real
The book seems to have been written from real experience. Why was I reading this book? Because although I'd experienced a "breaking" event in my life which had caused me to directly confront the subject matter before, I had once again been decieved. By the grace of God He showed me fairly directly the state I was in, by His grace He had in the weeks before got me to a place where I could receive His correction. As I walked away from Church that day, I was saying "I give up." Precisely! In Chapter 4 the author says that's exactly what we must do!I liked this book because it's readable and it's real. I'm looking for others which deal with the subject matter in a bit more depth, but this is a very good start.

Very good book
A concise book that helps you to take steps towards becoming more authentic in your walk with Jesus. Talks about humility in an understanding way, by not just repenting of prides but becoming humble + showing others the areas you are broken in, not hiding these areas

What a blessing.
At last a book written in a no-nonsense style. I am a busy home schooling mom and don't have lots of time for reading. The author does not beat around the bush and use lofty language. Just what I needed. As hard as it was to agree with what is said in this book,I could hear the Spirit breaking down the walls in my heart and encouraging me. Praise the Lord. Excellent. Thank you.
