When you buy Atlas track you are getting the best track for your money.

The track can be use without the base!
THe track is very good! Did not like the plastic base,so not using the base.

Steer clear
The train track is junk. The track bed too easily separates from the train rails. The pieces are very hard to connect together. I recommend that you stay away from Atlas starter set.
