Takes a good hour to assemble, so do it alone before Christmas!The Glockenspiel is wonderful for adults and slightly older kids (3-5 and up) who like to play gently. A rough and tumble kid will mess up all the steps and pull it apart, and it won’t work when the steps are not lined up. So my daughter received this at 3 yo, and loved it, all her little friends loved it when they came over, all preschool age girls... wonderful. My son at 4 yo though still moves all the pieces, nothing works for him, he gets frustrated, messes it up even more; it’s just the worst toy for him. We just put it in the basement for now, maybe try again in a year.So every kid is different, and if you know your kid, you’ll probably know if they will like it.It has a very a sculptural look to it, and it’s definitely cool for adults to look at.

I ordered this and upon receipt, realized some pieces were missing. Amazon replaced the item, but some of the planks on the replacement were not drilled so they could be fitted with the dowels. It would make an interesting conversation piece, but turned out not to be a good fit for my home. What could be assembled was beautiful once put together, but it did not hold my children’s interest well enough to make it worth replacing a third time. I returned both of the defective items to Amazon and requested a refund, which they accommodated. The toy was beautiful and easy to assemble. True to form for a Grimm’s product, the colors were bright and the wood was quality, with the exception of the undrilled planks and the missing dowels. I think it was a sheer fluke that I happened to get two defunct items back to back. I own many Grimm’s products and have never been disappointed. Since my kids seem to enjoy their Magic Wood Marble Tree so much more, it just wasn’t the best value, so it was decided to save the money for something else.

it’s beautiful

I bought this for my tow boys and thankfully they are away for the week - giving me time to put this together. As stated in another review, it is not easy to push the little dowels in the small holes. For the price, I feel it should come assembled!!

Love the item, but assembly was a bigger project than I hoped. Took my husband and I an hour to put the little pegs into each colorful piece that goes around. The holes are a tight squeeze for the wooden pegs to go in so it needed some extra effort and man power.
