A masterpiece
The professional yoga teacher’s handbook is a road map. It guides and helps you to build solid foundations if you are an inspiring or new yoga teacher. It supports you in your self enquiry with questions for you to think and answer to navigate your own teaching journey. I am close to completing my 200hr yoga teacher training and I found this book or the book found me at the right time. The layout, language and pace is fantastic. This book will help experienced yoga teachers to look at their practice and discover new areas. It is thought provoking and a masterpiece. I highly recommend this book.

THE book for professional (or aiming-to-be) professional yoga teachers
Sage is an excellent teacher, but she might be an even more-excellent writer. Her language is crisp, clear, and contains lovely (and often funny) examples. In addition to being a beautiful book, The Professional Yoga Teacher's Handbook is also well-organized and full of thoughtful direction regarding teaching—both traditional studio teaching and offering online classes. (For that reason, it's a FANTASTIC book for teachers navigating the teaching yoga during a pandemic!) My favorite part of this book is its honesty right from the start: in the first chapter of part 1, she is frank about the idea that teaching yoga as a primary professional is very challenging if not downright impossible. But rather than be saddened by this idea, readers will feel hopeful as she discusses the ways that having yoga as a secondary career or "side hustle" can be beneficial to not just the teacher, but students, too. As the book goes on, she also covers a variety of ways yoga teachers can grow what they're offering, including offering online workshops, teacher trainings, and yoga in unique settings. I added two photos here that really show the breadth of this book. Chapter 5 is aimed at brand new yoga teachers, and explains how to get a foot in the door and find a yoga position. The Appendix has this nifty chart (which continues on the next page, not posted) and offers a timeline for yoga teachers to stay on track as teachers—I found this really valuable, and I bet you will, too! This is the book I wish I had read when I finished my first YTT 10 years ago, but it offers enough robust wisdom that it's still applicable to me as a veteran, professional teacher. (Oh how the section on language reminded me—again—to work on cutting out my repetitive filler words!) New yoga teachers and seasoned ones alike will benefit from having this gem in their teaching toolkit.

Recommend without reservation!
Let me be the first to recommend this book to any and all Yoga teachers (or would be teachers) in these challenging days of restructuring at best, or simply saving, our businesses! At at time when Zoom has joined Functional in the Yoga vocabulary, Sage Rountree has jumped right in and offers help on many levels. If you are overwhelmed by technology, sure, it's a no-brainer to pick up a copy. But there's oh so much more - personal and professional advice for new or experienced instructors and business owners from planning a class to the role of social media to the nuts and bolts of business management. I am a huge fan of ALL of Sage's publications and recommend them without reservation!
