Like some others I had enjoyed this book years ago, in my case from the library, but am just now buying my own copy. It has great photos and old art depicting the games being played, very old examples of the games, in some cases good explanations of how to play, history, cultural context, how inventive people who want to play can be with few resources-dirt, pebbles and twigs, and for people who are handy (I'm not), good directions on making your own game equipment. I remember seeing the Nine Men's Morris pattern carved in stone pavement in Roman era flooring in Jerusalem years ago. My used copy was indeed in good condition as described. Its certainly a nice enough book to display.

I had a copy of this very same book years ago. It somehow got lost during one of my numerous moves. I'm so glad I was able to find a copy of it again. It's interesting to see the variety of games from all over the world. Excellent reference book too.

a rather very used book. no flyleaf cover (dont think I saw that in the description) and rather more used than described. all in all. i got the book and its contents is in readable shape. be careful when you see a used book for sale. the condition may be worse than the description or pix

Nice book to know the history of games.

I purchased this book years ago only to have it disappear later (we've all had that experience!). This purchase was a replacement, which should give it a high rating from the beginning. In any case, this is one of the finest publications on the subject ever and in my opinion deserving of further editions or updates. If you and your family enjoy games, but are getting tired of the usual, then this book is for you.
