A must have for treating canine seborrhea
Our cocker spaniel has a wicked bad case of seborrhea that we have been dealing with for over three years. Our vet recommended this prodect and we found that it helps greatly if used three times per week. That's almost a bottle a week so it is expensive. We learned over the years that Neutrogena T/SAL contains 3% salicylic which is very effective in cutting through those masses of gunk that builds up between baths. Using it allows us to cut down to two baths a week so we went a year doing that alternating the Douxo with the T/Sal. It works but the coat isn't shiney. So, we added Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic and Antiseborrhec Medicated Shampoo for Dogs to the mix. Now we use three shampoos to help control what is a very bad case of canine seborrhea. All are available on Amazon and vary greatly in price. We bathe our dog twice a week and rotate through all three shampoos: Duoxo one time, then T/SAL the next and finally the Vet Formula Clinical Care shampoo. Then we start all over again. The Veterinary Formula shampoo has coal tar in it, a proven winner for seborrhea, skin and coat. Our cocker continues to have seborrhea (did I mention there is no cure?) but this practice of rotating these three shampoos has cut our cost and our trips to the vet. This procedure was developed after three years of trial of various shampoos and procedures. Our cocker is not itching, scratching, or indicating she is under stress anymore. She still has seborrhea but now it is manageable, she gets two baths a week, and our cost is significantly less. Works for us, sure hope it works for you. Thank you for reading of our experience.

... a cocker spaniel with seborrhea and it was getting pretty bad. She started to develop little "bumps" all ...
I have a cocker spaniel with seborrhea and it was getting pretty bad. She started to develop little "bumps" all over her skin. It started with only a few bumps, then her body was covered in them. The bumps started getting bigger and would start to peel and get infected. The smell was pretty bad. Her hair started to thin out and fall off in the sections where there was a bigger concentration of bumps and the skin started to look almost elephant-like and hairless.Vet recommended a medicated shampoo (expensive too) and after a couple of months, no change, still getting worse. We researched and found that a shampoo treatment with tar and salicylic acid would work so we bought a different shampoo online. That one kind of halted the growth of the bumps and to a degree did help with the peeling process but still no major change. I read the reviews on this shampoo on amazon and decided to give it a try. We've been bathing the cocker every 2-3 days with all treatments to see if there's a change. Followed the same regimen with this product with one entire bottle and again, it seemed to halt the growth of new bumps but was not seeing the change I wanted. I ordered the second bottle anyways and used it for about a month...no new results but at least she was not getting worse. We traveled out of town and forgot to take the shampoo with us and we didn't want to stop bathing her so I went to different pet stores to try to find a shampoo with salicylic acid and nothing. I decided to go to Wal-Mart to see if they had anything there and while I was there, I went to the acne medication section (for humans) and ran across Neutrogena body wash (2% salicylic acid). I decided to take that instead of a dog shampoo. In the first bath, we noticed the bumps started to peel - just like the other dog shampoos. After about 3 baths, we started to notice the bumps were significantly decreasing in size and quantity. We decided to stay on this product for a while to see what we noticed. We went through the first bottle within a few weeks and went out and bought another one. We are about half ways done with the second bottle and the bumps are 90-95% gone, her hair has all come back in most sections of her body. Her hind legs were the worst and this is the 5% that still shows some bumps, but the elephant-like skin is disappearing from here as well and hair is starting to come back here as well. She is still not 100% but is definitely the best product for her condition I have tried - and much cheaper than these "specialized" shampoos.Bottom line - this shampoo is OK, but if your dog has severe seborrhea issues, give the Neutogena body wash (human product) a try.

My dog has SA-- Sebaceous Adenitis and this definitely works better than other shampoos that I have used, including prescription
I have a 10-year old Akita with Sebaceous Adenitis that simply her fur does not grow correctly. At first it was thought something else was wrong as she had issues when she was younger with allergies/ reactions that we did some basic tests at our vet and for the things they tested for (blood test, skin/ dander test, etc) came up negative. So after spending a lot of time researching, it appears that the breed can be afflicted by it and she has been. There is no cure or treatment and the result is simply a loss of her coat. Not great, but at least it is not life threatening.I have tried some other shampoos and nothing has cleaned as well. What I look for is a shampoo that is gentle enough, cleans well, lathers up nicely, and the biggest is to get rid of the hard darkened sebum that clumps in her fur. Think of it as a small flat raisin that has stuck and dried in the fur.... hard to get out and does not like to dissolve. With this shampoo it does breakdown the clumps (which are typically smaller than 3mm wide by 1mm thick) and definitely gets rid of the associated musty odor. For me it makes the bath easier to do and for her I know she feels better as she has that look on her face to say "thank you".So for her, it is a good find and worth the price. I do not expect it to perform miracles and make her hair grow, but what it is intended to do it does well.

How to bath dog
The vet told me after bathing the dog to then bathe the dog again in baby oil after that bathe again in Dawn dish soap. This seems to work great. My dog doesn't have dog dander and smells good.
