Straight Outta Compton

Thumbs up from geezer ...
I'm not a fan of rap. As a 70-year-old, my taste runs more to Frank Sinatra, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis and blues guitar. That said, I bought this after my wife and I saw "Straight Outa Compton", which chronicles the rise of the group NWA. I love the album. It's raw, mean and misogynistic, but it contains a power and energy missing from a lot of music today. I recommend both the movie and the album highly.

but the five songs I liked on this album
I'm not a fan of rap music, but the five songs I liked on this album, CD, I REALLY LIKED! If profanity offends you, this CD is definitely not for you, only one song out of the 18 is profane free. Fans of old school, 80s rap, this is a must have CD for your collection! I was a bit sad the lyrics were not provided, but all the vocals are easy to understand when the songs are playing, so it was not a deal breaker.

Great album that will never get old!
Great album. MC Ren is by far my favorite from N.W.A. and unfortunately he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. This album still holds up to this very day. Glad I bought the CD because it sounds much better than using an aux chord to play it streaming wise. One of the first, and best, West Coast hip-hop albums ever made. Can’t go wrong with Ice Cube, Ren, Easy, Dre, and others. Super fast shipping too which was nice!

Great album
The base album is fantastic. Some of the extra tracks though are pretty bad (and not in a good way). The cover of "Gangsta Gangsta" by Snoop Dogg, for example, just doesn't come even close to what the N.W.A version is. Likewise, the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony version of "F--- Tha Police" doesn't come close to capturing the magic of the original. That aside, the album is great. The title track, "F--- Tha Police" are the obvious hits, but "Gangsta Gangsta", "I Ain't Tha 1", "Express Yourself", "If It Ain't Ruff", and the remix of "Dopeman" are also good listens. Out of the three N.W.A albums, this is certainly the strongest by far.

N.W.A: Masters of the gangsta genre
I ahve always enjoyed albums which offered up such a fantastic start and used that momentum to keep the listener's attention to the end. "Straight Outta Compton" is one such album which I throughly enjoy due to that fact. The first FOUR tracks lay down the foundation of this solid album. The first three tracks highlight the strengths of Ice Cube. M.C. Ren and Eazy-E. The forth shows how underrated M.C. Ren is within the world of hip-hop. The rest of the album is certainly not weak at all (well, except for the "Bonus Beats" track off the remastered edition) and serves as a solid structure upon that foundation. My favorite track on the album is "Quiet On Tha Set" which features M.C. Ren dishing out some fat rhymes against a very sick beat. It's just so good that it deserves to be cranked up. It is an infectious groove. Trust me. Words don't do it justice.Other highlights: Eazy-E's ode to O.E. (8-Ball), Tha D.O.C. leading off on "Parental Discretion" (prior to having his vocal chords slashed), all of Ice Cube's contributions (especially on "Dopeman") and especially D.J. Yella for keepin' it all funky 'nuff.I don't claim to be knowledgeable of hip-hop. I do know that this is the album to get for some timeless oldskool music which has stood the test of time. I also higly recommend its followup, "Efil4zaggin", which is even stronger than this. Get both at once. Now.

so I was a bit disappointed the case was cracked when it arrived
I buy CD's purely for having them in my collection, so I was a bit disappointed the case was cracked when it arrived. It's only one crack in the bottom corner but it is still there :( That and the case was a teeny bit broken if handled without care. But that honestly doesn't bother me much at all. The album itself is just a classic and it's one of my all time favorites! Every song is different than the last yet so good. I'll be jammin' to this in the shower or while I'm doing dishes! Definitely a solid addition to my library and the CD itself is beautiful. Would be 5 stars if not for the case mishap but I can live with it. I absolutely recommend this record to anyone- it was one of the ones that turned a metalhead on to the genre!

Classic.
I have nothing but praise for this album. One of the few times the "Product of our enviroment" argument holds true, this album is a slice of 80's L.A.

Real message applicable to today's events
This album is still relevant to the African American society today. This album is a real statement for the American government to wake up and listen to events around equality. There is also the fun part too in the album. BLM

Missing a couple of classic songs
The vinyl wax version of this classic album omits SOMETHING 2 DANCE 2 as well as SOMETHING LIKE THAT. Got used to having these songs on my cassette version so really miss them here. Apparently original record was like this too so can't blame them too much. Otherwise it's a good pressing, sounds good and plays well.

This is a great album from when Hip hop was still young
This is a great album from when Hip hop was still young. A toddler, with all it's moods and hilarity. Brilliant social commentary turned sideways and forced in your earhole. Musically, it's clever. I think this album should be in everyone's collection. It could sit next to your mumford and sons disc and take its dinner money
