I used to carry little "stubby" hammers, short and easy to stow. but the claw on a hammer is useless for digging. Tent hammers double pretty well for digging cat-holes and for Dakota Fire Pits. The cordage provided is not 550 cord, but it seems sturdy enough for tensioning a tent fly. The stakes are not going to turn away a twister, but if you are out in the wild with a major storm coming through, you have bigger problems than "stake envy", these will work for most conditions, and if you have sand, tie your line in a clove hitch around the middle of the stake, dig a hole with the aforementioned tent hammer, and bury the stake, "deadman" style. the bag is a sturdy, cavass-like material, big enough for the provided implements, plus a lightweight sil-ny tarp and a 55-gallon drum liner for a browse bed. Good deal, overall. I'm pleased with it.
