I just love this as I'm physically challenged and can't rise from my office chair easily. I think I might even buy another one. It's very comfortable and just push the switch and you don't have to hold it down. The switch arm is moveable and is by the arm of my chair. I just return it back to level and it's ready to go again. I got the smallest one, I'm a size 14-16, and it fits perfectly. Buy this one! The motor is in the center of the cushion and feels hard and gives a low backache. So I strapped a dining room chair cushion on. I recommend you get a gel cushion and that should make it much more comfortable. I've used it daily for about 5 years and have had no problems with the motor, but a large or heavy person might have an issue with it. I turn chair sideways to back it up to a wall when going to stand up to stabilize it, and the left arm of my chair is against my desk so it won't swivel. I do the same to sit down. I can't sit or stand from anything that moves. Remember it's the back of seat that raises, so plant your feet tightly against the floor so you won't slide.

Didn't work for the person we gifted it to, trapped him in a reclined chair and scared him out of ever wanting to see it again. But I have witnessed this product working very well for another user, so it's value to you might just depend on a variety of circumstances. Upon return of the product, Amazon decided to charge us a return fee. My negative review is 100% a reflection on Amazon and not on the product itself. It was a $26 failure. Oh well, now I know better; Amazon not good for returns! My advice now is to go to your local department store or pharmacy (a real bricks-n-mortar) for this kind of stuff. Boo Amazon, had previously thought more highly of you.

Bought this for my 95 year old mother. Initially we were most impressed. It seems to be quality product, sturdy and very functional. It worked better than we had hoped...for two weeks. Then it just died. It acted like there was no power to the motor at all. Tried different outlets and checked circuit breakers - all to no avail. But we were so pleased with how it functioned out of the box, and Amazon was so responsive in their return policy, we're trying a replacement. We're hopeful that the failed unit was just a lemon because the unit's size, shape and functionality are spot on with what we need. I'll follow up later on how the replacement does. It arrives today thanks to Amazon.

Personally, I found it uncomfortable to sit on. But, when I needed help to just get up it worked very well. It is sturdy and well made. If you can not stand up on your own and a gate belt lift proves dangerous, I would give this lift a try.

I set it on top of sofa, plugged it in. I raised it automatically. Mom sat on top, pushing switch, lowering herself to seated position. It is soft topped but for longer sitting times, she rolled a bit on her side, slipping it to the opposite side. Then when she wanted to get up, we slipped it back as she positioned herself, raising herself to near standing. She has a bad knee and was in extreme pain raising from sofa, this solved the problem. She just leaned a bit forward and no pressure on her knee! She could then proceed forward with her walker. Recommend.

My disabled father needed help getting out of his chair and this seat was fantastic - BUT only for the 3 weeks that the first 2 seats worked! They function great until one day they just stop with no warning! I was very careful to make sure the chair had a hard surface which completely supported the lift seat, my father never uses it to help him sit down, it only gets used 2 times a day, he is well under the weight limit and assists in getting up so it's not a total lift . The first one literally broke out of it's plastic casing- the second just stopped -they act like they are not getting any power. It is a shame that Carex doesn't fix this design flaw. Amazon has been great about replacing the units, but I need the seat to work! Please fix this product design. My back needs this product!

We bought this for my 86 year old Mother, and it does function. However, it is so hard, it hurts her to sit on it. There is about 1/2 inch of foam on top of a hard surface, and it is just not enough. This is not just due to old bones - even a 14 year old said it was too hard - like sitting on a wooden chair seat. The nature of the mechanical function also means you can't put another cushion on top or under the stretch cover. The product is also really thick, so when you put it on anything but a low chair, your feet dangle (this from a person 5'7" tall). Everyone should also note, that this cannot be used on anything but a chair that has sides to hold it in place. We tried it on a sofa with a couch cane as a grabbing aid to get up, but it is too tippy and dangerous. She was really disappointed, as she liked the mechanism, but a little re-engineering is in order.

We were looking for a lifting aid for my mother who would be visiting us. She has a chair at home that helps her get up and really needs this assistance instead of someone pulling her up by the arm (and hurting her in the process). This does exactly as it claims. Both my husband and I tried it out in several different chairs - there is a hundred pound difference in our weight and several inches in height. The seat lift worked perfectly for both of us. It is a nice, easy, smooth lift and will put you on your feet in a more upright position (I notice when people struggle to lift out of a sitting position, they are bent over forward and risk falling). My mother is in her mid-80's and not very strong. She did not require any assistance when using this lift. It is a pretty comfortable seat and has substantial weight so it does not move around. It fits in a lot of different seats. Highly recommended!

We bought this to help my elderly father get up off the couch after knee surgery. It worked perfectly, even his at home therepist had never seen one before and sugessted it to all his clients. Worth every cent.

Really disappointed and upset. My daughter bought this for me but when we unpacked it and put it on my chair it’s too high, also would be uncomfortable for sitting. We repackaged it to return it only to find out it is not eligible for return. THIS FACT is not seen on the order page - they should warn people all sales final. Will not buy any health products on this site anymore. An expensive lesson learned.

it is a good product but when placed on a chair, it is too high for a short person to be able to get onto the chair. It seemed to work well, but it was never given a true test due to the height problem for the elderly user.

Works really well for my mu on the chesterfield. It is a bit tall for her in a rocking chair but, otherwise, a good purchase.
