It did come sealed in plastic but I have to wash and sanitize everything that he uses and goes in his pen. Even though it says spot clean it did wash well didn't fall apart like some other brands. Buy brand name as cheaper ones don't use the same materials and are not as soft and well made. This has been bunny tested and approved. It comes with the battery heart and heating rocks. It's not heated so I purchased a hand warmer and placed that in the velcroed pocket. It comes with two pulsing plastic hearts, one is used as a backup. They mimic the heartbeat of the mother. It pulses some time then automatically stops. I think the time might be 20 minutes. I'm not sure. After taking her out for a potty break I would reactivate it. At one point she discovered she could turn it on or off with her nose by pressing on the belly of the stuffed toy. The first pulsing heart I used lasted a little over two weeks. I pulled the protective tab that was covering the battery out of the slot on the second one and it didn't work. I decided not to purchase more replacement batteries. Which was okay she slept just fine without the pulsing. She still sleeps with the stuffed animal. I had place to the hearts in a box. Recently when I pulled them out to toss them. One started pulsing. I couldn't tell you which one. Having said all that, it did what it was supposed to do.
