When it comes to my turtles I don't go cheap on anything. I have a large aquarium that I have repeatedly raised Three Stripe Mud Turtles from hatchlings to adult where I let them go. I had a single youth in the aquarium for a long time. yes he was spoiled. Then a neighbor discovered soft shell hatchlings in her porch. She brought me 6 in total out of fear local birds would eat them or possibly her dog would kill them while attempting to play. I set up the aquarium for them and fell in love with them. They are exceptionally cute as 'kids'. My purchase history shows I bought the filter in 2019. I cleaned and maintained it and then the impeller began to lock up. I'd lift the tube, drop it down and it usually would run for a few hours and then lock up again. I took it out, cleaned it and made certain the impeller could turn freely. IT continually locks up now. In fact it locks up more than it runs. When it is locked up it makes a tremendous growling noise. I cleaned and checked the cavity where the magnet armature sits, cleaned the impeller, armature and everything else I could clean. Now it won't spin for more then a few minutes. My last filter worked great for many years then I lost a small part while cleaning it and had to replace the entire thing. This until has a parts list so if I were to loose a part I could buy a new one for it but it didn't get that far. I'm unhappy with it since I spend a lot of time cleaning it or moving the tube to try to get it to move. I am now shopping for a new one and here is where I saw that I had bought this one and when. Not again. No way.

Best bang for your buck!
Bought my grandson an aquatic turtle not realizing how high maintenance they really are. Our biggest hurdle was keeping his water clean. I bought 3 different types of pumps, all rated for my 20 gallon aquarium. A submersible, a top mount and a inside mount. The pumps can be the most expensive part of the setup, and I paid top dollar. No matter what it was just a matter of time before his water was a thick, smelly dark brown. No matter how much I cleaned the aquarium or the pump, it inevetiably ended up swampish. Then I took a chance on this one. I was tired of paying $60+ for a pump and thought what do I have to lose? WINNER! This pump does a great job of keeping the water as clear as possible. No matter what his water will be discolored, but at least we can see the turtle in the water with this pump. It really doesn't flow fast, but that's good for noise. You can hardly hear this one running. I did add the extra filter materials and that does seem to help. So, I highly recommend trying this pump before splurging on an $60+ one.

This is simple filter system and inexpensive to maintain.
This is recommended to be shut off after a certain time but I have been using it 24 hours a day with absolutely NO problem. It's a very simple design. I use it for a turtle tank so I don't feel the need for the additional foam filter on the intake nozzle. Also I have not changed out or replaced the inner filter yet as I clean it once a week with soap and alcohol and thoroughly rinse it. I'm going to buy a spare one for a replacement because eventually I will need one. Update: I have had my filter for 4 months now and it is still working perfectly. I Use it in a 20 gallon aquarium half filled. I expect a lot from it because turtles can be very messy but with regular tank cleaning it handles the job just fine. I did purchase additional filters and change them out when necessary.

2 days
It keeps my tank beautiful looking but after 2 days the motor started to be louder then the water following out. The box and instructions say to email for help but no email address given.

Great filter with a little adjustment for the noise
The media could not be loaded. I have an octagonal shaped tank, about 3 gallons but only keep it filled a few inches and despite other bad reviews, I'm having no issues. I've had it running since the 8th, today is the 13th, and it hasn't stopped once. Packaging was fine. The reviews about it being in pieces and no instructions is useless because it's pretty common sense as the filter only fits in one direction, slim side down, the 4 little filter balls go in either side or you can let them float in the tank itself and the small intake tube can only go in one place and the foam slides over that filter tube. 4 stars because it is pricey at $20 and it does get a little noisy. Too keep my turtle comfortable without the noise, I bought 2 regular sponges and put one under it and one behind it and I could still suction cup the top one. It's quiet and stays in place. The video clip was with my phone inside the tank.

Powerful and quite. As good as the name brand version.
This filter for the price has actually become one of my favorites over an expensive name brand most people use. It runs great. The pump attached to the bottom, pumps a high rate of water which is excellent for tanks with turtles and so forth. It is actally very quite. If it wasn't for the waterfall sound itself I wouldnt know it was running. The water flow is so smooth the African Side Neck turtle in the tank loves swimming under it.The pump is removable from the filter so you can clean the impelle if need be. This is a big plus with because sometimes debris can get into the pump around the impeller and cause it to lock up then burn out.The only flaw that I truly found with this was the hanging clip isn't strong enough and snaps off. However there are 2 large suction cups that hold up the filter with no problems. I just prefer the clip as a backup in case the suction cups let go.Pros: Quite, Powerful, easy to clean and maintainCons: Haging clip is not functional for the weight of filter once water starts pumping through it.I would recommend this pump for a turtle tank if you don't want to buy a 60.00 or more name brand one.
