Product Description Rodney Yee and Patricia Walden present this twice-a-day yoga workout designed for busy beginners. Rodney Yee presents a daily 15-minute morning workout designed to increase circulation, improve mobility, and bring clarity to your mind, while Patricia Walden leads a 20-minute evening routine designed to quiet the mind after the stress of the day. .com A.M. Yoga for Beginners"The morning is a precious time," says the narrator of A.M. Yoga for Beginners. "Just as the sun rises and falls, so do our natural rhythms. The morning is perfect time to open our bodies and center our minds." This 20-minute yoga practice with supple instructor Rodney Yee is the perfect way to start your day by energizing your body and calming your mind. Filmed on the beach at Maui at sunrise, the video starts with a 4-minute Conscious Relaxation focusing on breathing, then glides into a 14-minute series of yoga poses that are simultaneously relaxing and energizing. It ends with a 2-minute seated Guided Meditation to center your body and mind. Yee's instruction is detailed and gentle. The video is beautifully filmed: you watch the waves roll in as Yee demonstrates yoga poses on a sandy beach. The yoga practice awakens and stretches your muscles gently, leaving you balanced and focused. "Yoga is the foundation of my day," says Yee. "A few minutes in the morning will help give meaning to your day." --Joan PriceP.M. Yoga for Beginners"The evening is the perfect time to calmly transition between being active and being quiet," says Patricia Walden, instructor of P.M. Yoga for Beginners. "One of the greatest gifts yoga has to offer is deep relaxation." This 20-minute program is designed to balance, calm, and revitalize you at the end of the day. It starts with centering poses: gentle stretches bringing awareness and quiet to your senses. Next are standing poses to release tension, increase circulation, expand the lungs, and help you breathe more deeply. Next, forward bends cool the body and bring quiet to the nervous system. The final restorative poses are so relaxing that you may fall asleep. Walden tells you not only how to do the poses, but what you should feel, and how to quiet your body and your mind. Instruction is soothing and explicit. Although this video is aimed at beginners, seldom are modifications given for the less flexible novice, so if any pose causes discomfort or seems impossible, don't push beyond your personal comfort level. The video was filmed on the windswept sands of Death Valley. --Joan Price

Excellent DVD!
I purchased this DVD shortly after beginning a regular Yoga class, so that I would be able to practice at home in my spare time. At first, I found this DVD to be a little too easy, in contrast with the class, but over time have grown to love it. I usually skip the relaxation part (at the beginning) and go right into the A.M. Yoga with Rodney Yee. Not only is the music soothing to the ear, but Rodney's voice is very calming and his nearly-naked body is in perfect shape. The A.M. portion features several stretches that really "wake up" the body and prepare it for the day ahead. His focus on the lower body (especially the part where he uses the strap) really works wonders. The P.M. section, with Patricia Walden is a little more difficult, but just as effective. The beauty of this DVD is, that the workouts are short, and therefore much easier to fit in to a busy schedule than some of the other 70 minute Yoga DVDs out there. If you have never done Yoga before, I believe that this would be the perfect place to start. Warning: It can be addictive. I now almost suffer from withdrawl if I go too long without doing some kind of Yoga on a regular basis. This DVD is considered a beginner's workout, which means the poses are not too complicated and are held for very short periods of time. Once you have mastered a DVD like this, try Rodney Yee's intermediate DVDs. Then you will explore much more difficult poses, held for longer periods of time, which can be very challenging. With both intermediate & beginner's Yoga, it is very rewarding to find that poses that seem initially impossible become easy with continued practice (and patience). I have since purchased several other Yoga DVDs and Videos, and must admit that the A.M. Yoga workout is still the one I do the most. If your life is full of stress, pop in A.M. and P.M. Yoga for Beginners and melt the tension away. Namaste.

Not Bad...For Beginning.
I bought this Yoga DVD after assessing my day to day life and concluding that I had too many stressors affecting my mood and my body. I had heard from numerous friends that Yoga was an enlightening activity that could, if done properly, help bring balance to my life and help de-stress everyday situations and events. I'm glad to say that this DVD has helped do just that. I checked other Yoga DVDs available on Amazon, but I picked this one first not only because it said "Beginners" but because it had workouts for both the morning and evening. Each workout is roughly 20 minutes each and slowly starts to build basic Yoga skills. The morning session starts out simple, relaxed. Rodney Yee engages you in exercises that are neither strenuous nor painful. They awaken the body and prepare it for the day ahead. However, as I continued these DVDs over a month I began to feel as if the A.M. session wasn't challenging enough. Sure, it starts off easily for a beginner, but it doesn't push you to challenge yourself a little more. Rodney's exercises are good, but they are almost too basic if you plan on continuing on to other forms of Yoga.I especially enjoyed the evening session of Yoga with Patricia Walden. Unlike Rodney Yee, Patricia Walden's session of Yoga challenges you. When I started this DVD I initially thought that Ms. Walden's portion was too difficult for a beginner, but it wasn't. As I continued on with both sessions I started to feel that Patricia's section challenged my mind and body more than Rodney's. In fact, I started to enjoy the evening session because of the challenges it provided. Sure, Patricia's exercises start out difficult if you're just jumping into Yoga, but over time they become easier and more comforting. While I still can't do everything to the extent that Ms. Walden does in her portion, I know I'm slowly getting there each time I practice and that make me feel excellent. With Rodney's portion I feel that I am equal to beyond his exercise and I wish it provided more of a challenge.Overall this DVD is a good buy if you are a beginner looking to dive into Yoga. The morning session will keep you busy for a while, but the evening session is the one that will push you to do more and go really get into Yoga. If, however, you feel you are fit enough and need more of a challenge, then this DVD might not be the one for you.

get the other one
We already have the am yoga from Rodney Yee and we love it!We saw this one and thought, "hey, all right, we can get the PM also."PM is done by someone else and even the AM isn't as good as the other DVD.Therefore, look for AM Yoga with Rodney, Yee. It's our favorite.

New to Yoga
This DVD seems to be good for those who are new to yoga. My husband and I do both the A.M. and P.M. yoga sessions most days. The first few days were a little rough as we had never done yoga before and felt pretty sore after. Neither of us are very flexible, so the "gently rest your forehead on your shin" comments are amusing. We enjoy the A.M. session the most, but it doesn't seem very invigorating. In fact, it makes us both relaxed. And the P.M. session tends to awaken us more. We both found that the P.M. session was more difficult. Our only real complaint about the video is that we both felt like more time needed to be devoted to holding the stretches, and that equal time be given for each direction of the stretch. Whichever stretch they start with tends to have the longest "holding" time. Granted, this video is supposed to be a quick intro to yoga, and there are other videos out there that hold stretches for longer time, but we felt like even 4-5 more seconds of holding the strech would have been better. We appreciated the "props" part of the video as well. It goes through how to use the blocks, straps, and mat, which we found helpful. I would recommend purchasing a block or two and a strap for those who aren't as flexible.I noticed that even after the first week I was more flexible than when we first started. My husband can't say the same yet, but he hasn't given up hope.

A.M and P.M. yoga for beginners
Excellent DVD! Highly recommend it! Both workouts, which last about 20 minutes each, are super. They help you to be more limber as they stretch the stiffest areas of the body as well as work with balance and strength. As yoga often does, it also seems to magically stimulate the inner organs to detox and normalize functions, so is a real all-round health booster! Both workouts are well narrated, so you don't need to keep your eyes glued to the television set to figure out what you are supposed to be doing next. This is one DVD that I will be using for many years to come! I should add that my 20 year old daughter finds the movements too slow (but she is a dancer who does pilates to relax) while they are perfect for middle-aged me.There is a third and excellent workout routine if you are just a little too stiff for the extreme poses and need the blocks and straps, which gives a nice variation or bonus. In all, a recommended purchase.

Fantastic for beginners or older people to yoga
I have found this yoga DVD fantastic! especially as its divided into 3 different yoga work outs so if you haven't much time then you can just choose one work out or, if you would like a long work out then do all 3.This is the only yoga DVD I've found which shows people how to use the yoga props such as the blocks and yoga belt which are very important for beginners to use or those less supple at first. No doubt amazon sell yoga accessory kits or if not just look up yoga blocks on google as there are some good value deals. To do yoga properly you also do need a yoga non-slip mat.I've been doing yoga for some years and even though I have more advanced DVD's some times its nice to just do something more gentle and that still makes your body feel great which this DVD does better than the rest in my view.Brilliant! I can highly recommned this DVD.I dont have a multi-region player and this DVD worked fine in mine but best double check to be sure as I do know there are two regional versions of it.

Excellent introduction to yoga
I have very little background in yoga. Consequently, I wanted a gentle introduction to yoga from this DVD that would teach me something about the practice and would be feasible to incorporate into my day.I thought it was excellent. The AM yoga session with Rodney Yee is my favourite and is very gentle yet I have found it effective. After a short while I've noticed distinct improvements in my flexibility at my circuit training class which is highly motiviating. The PM session with Patricia Walden is more challenging but that's good as it gives you more insight into what's needed to progress in yoga practice. The main difference for me between the AM and PM workouts is that a beginnner would need to use props for the PM. It would have been helpful for me to have had someone less advanced alongside Patricia for the PM programme as I couldn't get near to some of her positions but that's a minor quibble and wouldn't be to everyone's taste. The bonus features are also excellent, there's instruction is using yoga props and an additional workout that allows you to practice their use which is very clearly explained. I'm surprised the producers don't make more of this in the promotional material and I would recommend trying the bonus workout and practising with the props before trying the PM workout. The bonus features also include interviews with Rodney and Patricia which give you an insight into their yogic and teaching philosophies which puts things into context. This is the best thing short of a class that you could hope to find for a beginner. I would recommend this to anyone thinking of taking up yoga or anyone who feels they need more flexibility to achieve their athletic goals. The latter may wish to skip the relaxation parts. In my lay opinion, it's not suitable for intermediate or advanced practitioners.

One of my favourite yoga DVDs
I'm a teacher and often find it difficult to unwind at the end of the day, especially around the end of term with so much going on. Not getting a good night's sleep, I then find it difficult to get up in the mornings and am weary of the day ahead often feeling tired and overwhelmed by all that I still need to do and the deadlines I have to meet. After reading about Yoga and its cumulative effect (even 10 mins a day is beneficial and can sometimes be better than a one hour session once a week) I was encouraged to try these short sessions out.I have found this DVD to be one of the ones I use the most, reaching out for it especially at these busy times. In the morning, the AM routine is perfect for when getting up is difficult: I crawl to the lounge, put on the DVD and in relaxation pose start the breathing exercises, which gently seem to awake me. The gentle stretches really seem to energize me and at the end of 20mins (which go by very quickly) I'm more awake than if I had kept the alarm on snooze for a couple more times. And definitely more chilled out during the day!The PM routine, though a little more challenging for someone unexperienced in Yoga as myself (it helps if you are flexible) has also been a life saver. When I finish the routine, all the tension is gone from my body and I feel completely relaxed, ready for a good night's sleep.Even doing only one of these sessions each day, I have noticed a great improvement in my energy levels and a decline in my stress/anxiety levels. I'm more relaxed, happier and get much more done. My patience at work has also increased and I am able to enjoy my time spent in the classroom with the children again (instead of worrying about all the paper work to be done after school!).

Brilliant! Not too long, and perfect for beginners
I love this DVD. I bought it in February, when I had never done any yoga before, and have used it 4 days a week ever since! The workouts are not too long (AM- 20 minutes, PM- 25 minutes) so you can fit them into your day easily. They are great for beginners and have some optional extras if you are more flexible. The relaxation element, which is what I started yoga for, is excellent and my only criticism is the lack of explanation of useful breathing techniques.I would highly recommend this DVD to all yoga beginners, and suggest you also buy a mat, bricks and strap to make things easier. (The set costs about £10).Well done to Gaiam, Rodney Yee and Patricia Waldren for a brilliant DVD!
