## Description

Product description Girafus Pet Tracker Reliable, lightweight, honest. The Girafus Tracker consists of a small tracking device worn by the pet and a handheld base unit for tracking. The tracking works on the hot-cold principle: if you walk in the right direction, the beeps get faster and more LEDs light up, and if you walk in the wrong direction, the opposite happens. Tracking requires some patience in the beginning, but in return you will find your cat even in the most remote basement hole. Technical data 7-10 days battery life Transmitter weighs only 0.28oz/ 8 grams No subscription, no sim card, no follow-up costs One base unit can track up to 4 transmitter Range up to 1600 feet Locating up to a few centimeters Long battery life The Girafus locator has a battery life of up to 10 days. The battery life is adapted to the behavior of the cat, they come and go. Daily recharging as is necessary with GPS devices is completely impractical. The charger is included in the delivery. No subscription, no follow-up costs There are no follow-up costs due to a subscription. The button cells included in the package are rechargeable. Featherlight The tracking device weighs only 0.28oz /8g and is therefore ideally suited for small pets such as cats. Locates everywhere, no mobile network needed Our tracker locates everywhere where GPS fails: in the basement, in densely built-up residential areas, in the forest and in the neighbor's garage. Locates Precisely With the Girafus Tracker, you can locate your pet to within a few centimeters. GPS tracking is inaccurate Try to locate your cat e.g. in a densely built-up area, a gps tracker will show you such a circle as result No SIM needed For our product you do not need a sim card and no additional subscription. There are no follow-up costs for you. Up to 4 Transmitters You can choose the number of transmitters based on how many cats you have. Range Our device has a range of up to 1600 feet. Of course, it depends on the type of terrain How does the Girafus tracker work? Battery life and care To keep everything running smoothly, perform a test locating every week and check the battery level. Once or twice a month, remove the transmitter's button cells and recharge them. The battery life is up to 30 days. The charger and the button cells are included in the package! Attention! Button cells should not be left empty/uncharged for more than 5 days. Button Cell Battery in the Transmitter Unscrew the tracking device, charge the button cell, and then continue tracking

Review: great range for the price - This is an effective tracker for the money. I don’t want to track my cat’s every move or keep her penned in. I just wanted to be able to find her if she went on an adventure. Newt, my cat, was just learning the outdoors. She was 6 months when we began training so I didn’t want something big around her neck. My plan is to also have her as a hiking companion so she uses a Voyager harness. In the pics she’s 9-10 months in a size xxxs harness (so you can judge the tracker compared to her size). When she finally was allowed off the lead, she disappeared for longer than I liked. I used the handheld device per the instructions. I was concerned that the woods and buildings would interfere with readings. Our community has 1/3-1/2 acre mostly forested plots. The tracker said she was across the street but I only had one bar — she went on a trip. As I approached the other bars lit up. I was in a tall grassy area with no actual sight of her, but the device said she was right in front of me. Sure enough she streaked out of the grasses back home. She disappeared another time (again so far I only had a single bar) and the tracker took me through heavy woods right to her again. It gives me peace of mind that I can find her if she ever gets away on a hike. I bought the 4 unit set because we are likely moving in the next year and I want trackers on collars for all my cats until they learn their new home. I don’t find the battery changing to be a big deal. It’s just a couple screws. I do have extra batteries so I can just swap them out. regularly.
Review: Won't pair up with new tag. - After the cat lost the two tags that came with the product, I ordered a new tag--which I was unable to register. First of all, the replacement unit was a Pink tag. AFter reading the confusing and incomplete pairing instructions dozens of time, I was unable to determine if each tag color is fixed against Based on the product with 3 and with 4 tags, it appears that the pink tag is hardwired for search #4. The next gap in the instruction id that the tag must be turned on for the pairing. But nowhere is there an instruction to turn on the tag--which is also vague, since there is no on/off switch on the tag. So the only way it can be done is by removing the battery. But, why remove the battery if the tag must be powered on to respond to the pairing command? This kind of sloppy instruction makes the pairing process far more difficult than it should be. But after thorough experimenting with the Set and search buttons, no combination worked. I couldn't not pair the tag, which makes the tracker worthless. Is the problem, associated with the new tag, or simply the instructions is wholly inadequate? As an engineers with decades of experience in designing consumer user interface, I give this one a royal lemon. Please ignore my initial rating. If it can't be registered with replacement tags, it it pretty much useless. This is a very early comment on the Pro-track. I have a cat that likes to roam the neighborhood at night. Homes here are on acre+ size lots with almost jungle like foliage behind the homes, where my cat can easily disappear. In the past, he can usually be located by clapping my hands as I walk up and down the street. But recently for unknown reason, this hasn't been very effective. I suspect that he might have travel far behind the homes and may have gotten lost in the thickets. The more days that he is missing, the more likely he has gone much farther away. The first time I use the Pro-Track, I was able to narrow his location to one or two homes--instead of back tracking repeatedly while clapping my hands, and annoying my neighbors. I was about 800 fet from my house when I heard the first time it beep, I knew that the cat had to be nearby. At am hours, my cat modus operandi is to stealthily return home when he knows I am looking for him. I was about 600 ft from my home when the beeping started to slow down indicating my cat was moving away toward my home.. Just as I suspected, he was already in my front yard when I got back. I was elatded If I can get him home each night, there is much less chance that he might wander deep into the thickets and get lost.for many days. As an RF device, vs tracking devices that use SIM cell phone technology, setup is a breeze. As an aside, I have no options but to go RF as I live in a cell phone dead-spot. The cat is oblivious to the presence of the light weight tag on his collar. The beep from the tag meant to help the searcher to locate the animal has an unexpected benefit. It alerts my cat, much like clapping of my hand, that I am looking for him. In the coming months, I plan to write a more thorough review. Battery life, reliability, performance are factors that I need to address before I can give it a haerty rating.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do you also have to charge the tracker in the collar?**
A: Yes. The tracker device has a standard circular 2032 battery in it. You remove 2 screws and the circular battery can be popped out. There is a 'charging station' and 2 batteries that comes with the Girafus. What you do is you put the dead battery you just took out into the charging station and remove the already charged battery and put it into the tracker device. This way you always have a rotation of batteries going. I'm finding I get about 3-4 weeks of time before needing to swap the batteries. (if you track more then you will obviously exhaust the batteries faster) Another note - when you put the dead battery into the charger its takes about 2 hours or so to charge. Also, there is a button on the front of the tracking device that you can press to 'test' the battery in the tracker. If its working you will see a solid red light illuminate on the tracking device. I know, a little wordy here - didn't want to leave anything out - Hope this info helps.

**Q: Can you track on an actual map such as Google map?**
A: Gps trackers can use a map, but may be off by a city block or so. They are best for getting a general location of something big from very far away. Most use an app, but be sure to figure in app fees when price-shopping.
Rf (radio frequency) trackers are more precise (so you know if your cat is under the bush right in front of you or right behind you, in addition to tracking from full 800m range.
In my opinion, rf finders are best for pets (except maybe a horse) and GPS is best for your kid's car or bicycle (or a horse).

For a large dog that tends to explore a particularly large area, rf and GPS each have their benefits. So, which to pick probably depends on whether or not your dog hides (in which case, get rf) or comes to you if you call from nearby (in which case, get GPS). But remember, they may not be able to come when called if injured (which is why I'd probably still go with rf for a big dog).

For cats, nothing beats an rf tag. GPS would be useless for my sneaky cat named Tesla. He is shockingly smart. (Pun intended)

**Q: Do the batteries on the collars turn off and on automatically? do they only turn on when tracking?**
A: No the transmitter on the collar is always on and the battery need to be recharged every 20-30 day’s .
The receiver you turn on only when you need tracks your cat.

**Q: I received this item but notice the lights aren't coming on when the batteries are installed in the charger. Is there another step that I should try?**
A: I haven’t quite figured that out either. I put a couple of dead rechargeable batteries in the charger and both had a green light. After awhile there is no light. So it seems like there is no light when the battery is fully charged. Sometimes the light will be red but after it charges there is no light. So my guess is that the batteries are charged when there is no light. Assuming you put the batteries in correctly—wider side is up.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Excellent when working
*by B***B on December 29, 2016*

When working, it is an excellent tracker. I find it is easier to use the audio tones than just the lights. I live in a hilly terrain and the range is good for at least 150-200 feet. We use it on a large cat and it is so light he didn't notice it at all. The batteries lasted about 3-4 months on the collar device which was fine. Our problem began when his collar came off and the tracker couldn't find the device (the cat came home collar-less). We bought a replacement device for his collar but that one never worked effectively. The handheld device (very cheaply made) also seemed to be acting up. For a cat, this is the lightest and most economical unit out there so I recommend it and am buying a new one. But the durability isn't the best.
